I had a pair of Docs like this in college and I got 7-8 years out of them, so I searched in stores but couldn't find this style. I heard about Zappos and searched for Docs and something like 150 styles popped up. The quality of these shoes can't be beat. They took a couple of days around the ankle to break in and be comfortable, but for an everyday shoe for me, this is it. Very high quality and even though they seem expensive (compared to a $50 pair I recently bought and got 6 months out of), the lifetime cost is minimal.

Style but without everyday comfort.
I always wanted a pair of Dr. Martens and the Berto has less of a boot and more of an oxford look. The shoe seems to be cut inward making it a bit tight on the outer areas of the sole. When you first break them in, there is a strange feeling that makes you alter your step slightly. They do break in but still never feel perfectly comfortable as this style of shoe should. For style they do get a 10. The construction of the contrasting stitching and soles/heels gives you a subtle but recognizable fashion statement. I wear them with Dockers for the most part. I wish they could be worn everyday, but it is more of a shoe that is used to make a statement and not for comfort. For a similar shoe check out the HS Trask.

Slightly small - but good looking shoe -
This shoe runs slightly smaller than some of the traditional DM shoes - so be aware of that.
Otherwise the off-shore quality has really improved over the past few years - these are good looking shoes that can be worn with pretty much anything.
Other brands recommended by reviewer: UK made classic greasy Gibsons - when they are available they are to die for!

Great for business casual -
These shoes have the feel of Dr. Martens but -- without the contrasting stitching -- a look that works with business casual.

These shoes are made in Thailand and the quality shows. I love the style, but after only 3 months these shoes are looking pretty beat up. My previous pair of Doc's (Made in England) lasted a good 5 1/2 years. Such a shame that they had to start using cheap materials. The price, strangely, still remains high.

Nice looking shoe. Not much cushion. A little tight/uncomfortable if you have a high arch, but this should go away over time.

I like 'em -
Shoes fit well and are extremely well made. They will take a little while to break in, but they were fairly comfortable right out of the box. They look stylish and should really last.

Great shoe!
Been wearing nothing but docs since early 90's. Wanted a more "professional" looking shoe and this style caught my eye. These fit the bill perfectly; doc martens comfort, but with a more business environment attitude. Recommend highly! Plus Zappos is probably the best online retailer; fast shipping, excellent communication, good prices!

Comfortable sole; cheap on top -
I purchased these to replace a pair of Panama Jack oxfords; however, the quality of the leather does not compare. The soles provide good cushion. They size a bit large - I got US men's which for them is EU 45. The transaction and follow-up email with Zappos was great.
