What a Perfect bag for its purpose -
I just recently discovered Brighton bags and after a very difficult decision, I ended up buying 2: the Emma and the Rachel. Those are wonderful elegant leather bags. However, I was traveling to Israel and the dark leather in that warm climate just wouldn't work I wanted a bag that was light and airy but could still hold a lot. I decided to check out Brighton again and -- voilà! -- not only is it a beautiful, light, elegant bag that holds a lot but the trim is a combo of red, dark tan, straw grayish white and black. As a result it will go with whatever you wear and it is perfect for the hot climes of summer in the Middle East. It also has a zipper enclosure which I prefer when I am traveling. I have received a number of envious compliments -- and one person commented that it looked expensive. I don't usually associate straw bags with that kind of panache -- but this one has it.
The only cons -- which I admit are a bit of a nuisance, it only has 2 slip pockets in addition to the zippered one -- that will hold a cell phone and a PDA. But I have other items I want quick access to -- and the other Brighton bags have 4 slip pockets -- 2 on each side. Also, this Brighton does not have the key fob the others come with. I miss that as well. Finally, the reason I only gave it 4 stars over all is one: within a week of use some of the straw has started to unravel. They say to expect some of that -- it is natural -- but this was the result of shoddy craftsmanship on an otherwise excellent bag.
The other reason is that though I carry a full bag -- I was careful not to over-stuff this one. Nevertheless -- it is already loosing its shape -- not good for a straw bag.
But for its limited shortcomings -- I still would not switch to another bag -- except I see more Brighton Straw bags have come out since I made my choice --- maybe I will **just have to** get one of those too.. :0)
