Great shoes crummy laces -
Great lightweight shoes for trails as long as they are not too rough with rocks and roots. The laces were too thick and about a foot too long. I changed the laces on both pairs I own.

They listened!!!
I last reviewed this shoe six months ago. While it had many fine attributes, it problems made it a non-starter. The Achilles cup has been deepened and my heel no longer slips up and down. The forefoot seam had been reinforced and is no longer at immediate risk of tearing apart. The inside seam on top of the forefoot has been eliminated. It is light, responsive, protective on rocks, but not very cushioned. May not need a lot of cushion on the trail. I find it snug across the forefoot. Overall, it is my choice for trail racing. A note on sizing. I usually find I wear 9 or even larger in trail shoes, but in these, I wear the same size as my street shoes, 8.5.

The Real Deal -
I recently ran in a 50k with this shoe and it was definitely true to form. It gave me a lot of grip, comfort, and support throughout my race. I would highly recommend this shoe to anyone interested in trail running. I am completely sold on Inov-8s and I plan on staying true to them for future trail runs.

Excellent for some -
What I liked: stiff sole provides good rock protection, no welt provides precision foot placement, excellent traction on rocks with grippy material, adequate cushioning for trails, light for trail shoe. What I did not like: the heel counter does not go up my heel enough to grab it so my heel kept slipping up and down, spell that blisters. D width was not adequate for my foot. Seam bump inside around top of forefoot (and stitching was pulling away from it even before use).
