I think these shoes can be put in one simple word: perfect! Theyre soft, don't rip too fast, and you can feel everything with each step.

These shoes were not durable. They got a slit in it the first time I skated in them for 30 min. The next day I skated them for 45 min and they completely tore and now have a hole. They lasted about four days, but the grip is awesome like most vans. Oh and too much arch.

Great shoe, great grip -
It is a great shoe. They last really long if you like to do flip tricks. I have the black/neutral grey. I normally wear size 8, but I need an 8.5, so definitely get 1/2 size up.

I got these shoes about two months ago they lasted pretty close to the two months. The toe of the shoe has ripped and the sole on the toe is worn down quite a bit; and the grip has not worn down too much. Other than the toe this is an amazing shoe.

Rowley Squares -
Haven't skated them much yet, but the grip is great, similar to other Vans. Classic Vans style with extra strength. It seems like they'll take a beating. They're also thin shoes as usual, but synthetic materials add a bit of heat. Great skate shoes, plus they're hippie friendly! The arch seemed a bit odd at first, but it helps quite a bit. Definitely order a half size larger, I can fit into 9.5 and 10, but ordered a 10.5 and it fits perfectly.

Great Casual Vegan Shoe -
I have owned 3 pairs of Rowley Squares before (all vegan). The problem with great shoes is that if you wear them too much, you wear them out! The 1st 2 pairs were a simulated leather/nubuck. The most recent pair is simulated suede. I now faithfully rotate my shoe choices so I don't just rip through my shoes (canvas shoes never last long with me) with the exception of putting the newest pair of Rowley's through a north eastern US winter, they are very comfortable with a good (but less then athletic arch support for someone with flat feet). I have inserted super-feet and other more responsive insoles and basically worn the shoes to pieces (in a good way). Everyday wear for 2 years straight (including the slush and salt of winter in NJ) is, I think, a good life span for a "casual" shoe. If you are looking for a vegan non-canvas, non-running, non-dress shoe, I couldn't recommend any other, get a pair of Rowley's and you won't be disappointed.

Skating the squares -
These shoes have THE BEST BOARD FEEL, ITS INDESCRIBABLE. They have really high arches, so they might feel weird, but they'll break in. Vegan material used in the shoe isn't very durable at all. The micro waffle design is VERY grippy. Shoes dont last long, but its worth the grip and board feel, but this shoe is 1 size smaller than marked.

Skates good rips fast -
This shoe skates good but rips fast. But thats just what happens to Vans. The arch in my right shoe was a little bigger than the one in the left. Felt uncomfortable, but I got used to it and it became normal.

Nice -
Probably the only Vans with a layered toe cap. It has thin and hard padding. It has some kind of oiled sued (fake) on the inner heel of the shoe (really comfy). Magic sole, its thin, the tread is durable and its cushioned. Loads of board feel. The laces do shred fast, but the elastic straps hooking the tongue to the shoe are hard enough so that the shoes dont fling off you foot. A little small (1/2 size).

Listen if you skateboard -
I've been skating for almost six years now and I decided to give the squares a try. Figured I'd like em because I've skated Vans plenty and loved them. Some things to listen to if you skateboard:
Get a half size up!!!
Either my toes are killing me or I have to put athletic tape on my heels as to prevent them from being rubbed off.
Decent board feel, nothing like slip ons of course. No heel bruising with these, and you dont lack in board feel due to thicker insoles. I'm gonna order another pair once my next check comes in, half size up though. Other than that, its a great shoe. Definitely worth getting a pair at least once. They feel great on your feet, and so far they are great for skating.

Im walkin' -
Some people are saying to go a half size larger and, for me, it was good advice. Normally I'm 11, but 11.5 is much better in these. I don't skate, but these are real nice for walking around. Though sometimes my feet feel a tad warm, but I don't care cause they keep the cows... great vegan shoe. Brown w/ orange stitch. Patriotic blue w/ red stitch so go Hillary!

These shoes are pretty rad; def get a half size up though, if you don't you'll regret it. They feel kinda weird at first, but after you break them in they'll be prime. Just remember GET HALF SIZE BIGGER.

Skate shoe -
The sad truth is: Vans isnt really making any good shoes anymore, but these break the streak. They are pretty durable. Oh so light, grippy, and flexible. Wear heel covering socks because these will cut a hole in your heel! Tread fades fast. All together good skate shoe (for skating). Get a +1/2 size.

Good -
I didnt really skate these, but the tread still faded after a couple months. Too grippy for my taste. Not too durable, but shoe goo will fix em up. Pretty thin and hard, not very comfy. Look nice, classic Vans with a tight fit. Order 1/2 bigger.

I liked these shoes a lot for skating. They felt like they were a half size smaller, which wasn't good cause when Id go to do a kickflip my toes were being crushed in the end.

This shoe IS FOR SKATEBOARDERS. The reason I say is because they are functional in every way imaginable for every trick imaginable. The Micro Waffle Sole and the new slim design are great for feeling your board and flicking right. The sole is designed in such a way that there are minimal heel bruises. When I first got these shoes in the black/neutral grey/white color way, I wanted to try them out. So I went outside and learned THREE new tricks. WOW! If you want the look of Vans for fashion, get the Old Skools. But, if you ARE a dedicated skateboarder, and want to get serious stuff done, then look no further. Oh, and remember to keep the shoe goo handy. The vegan materials aren't the strongest, but don't let it keep you from getting this shoe!
Two thumbs up.
Other shoes recommended by reviewer: um...if you like this shoe, then you should probably get some other kind of Vans such as the No Skools or AVEras.

Great shoe, highly recommended. If youre used to a regular flat insole, then it will feel weird at first, but is actually really great once broken in.

What to expect with Vans Rowley Squares -
Rowley Squares are nice shoes but they feel VERY weird, until they break in. Then they feel very comfortable, only problem is that it doesn't have a lot of padding. So if you hit areas on the top of your foot expect it to feel like you are barefoot. These shoes have very good grip. You really do feel like you are glued to your skateboard. The Ollie pattern wears out pretty fast but it is still good. This shoe does only have a double stitched toe-cap but it lasted 6 months. The toe cap is really strong; trust me because I do half-flips in to caspers often. These shoes only had been replaced with laces once and I skate everyday for more than 3 hours.
These shoes lasted for half a year. All you need is two pairs of these shoes and you are set for the year. These are even better than the Rowley XL2. This shoe is REALLY great!

So Freakin Comfortable -
I bought these for skating and decided to wear them around a week first to break them in (which I would recommend). The problem is I dont want to take 'em off. They are great for skating. The Micro waffle gives great board feel. They are a little stiff at first, but that wears out in a week or two. Highly recommend them.
Def buy a half size up.

Rowley Squares!
Took a minute to break in. They have great grip but the ollie area wears out quickly. The laces seem to magically fray. Im on my third set. Great look, pretty good comfort, but be prepared for sweaty feet. The pair I have is blue and when I wear them for a while my socks also come out blue.

Good Lookin, Bad Skatin -
These shoes are definitely cool looking, but they are the worst skating shoes I have ever owned. Too narrow, not enough padding and no real support around the toes. I really wanted to have a vegan shoe that I could skate with. Rowley, please try again and get it right.

Everything Great... except the laces -
I loved this shoe; I got the olive green color. The shoe was great; it had a great look, was comfortable, and skated incredibly well. The wear of the shoe is not too great though. The spot around the flick wears very fast and I went through two other pairs of laces. But, other than the wear factor the shoe was great.
