Adorable shoe but too tight for wide foot -
Adorable shoe! The strap across foot wasn't the problem for me; it was that my pinky toe was pinched. I do have wide feet but typically do not have to buy specific wide sizes. I really wanted these to work for me and tried them with very thin socks but still couldn't get comfortable with them.

Great shoes!!
I bought these for traveling through Europe, and they are perfect - very comfortable, excellent support, and look nice.
I have an old pair of Merrell's that were wonderful for this kind of traveling (walking hours a day on cobblestone streets, running up train station stairs), but after one year they wore out (granted, I did put them through a lot).
So to replace them, I bought these Amsterdam's because of all the positive reviews, and I am very glad that I did.
I usually wear a size 8 shoe, *sometimes* an 8.5. I ordered an 8.5 based on previous reviews, and this is definitely the right size. Buy a half size up from your normal.
The elastic band doesn't bother me, but I guess I don't have a very high arch.
I got the orange, and I agree with a previous reviewer - they are perfect, not too loud.
Overall, an excellent shoe! And cheaper than the Merrell pair that I had.

Great comfy and cute shoe!
Cute and comfy! Bought these for a trip and wore them the first time all day and had no troubles and my feet felt great at the end of the day. I can see what other people say about the strap, but it didn't bother me. I must have a low instep. But if you cut it it would be fine and not detract at all from the look of the shoe. A nice alternative to a tennis shoe for lots of walking. P.S. I got the orange and think it's pretty cute (subtle, not so bright).

Cute and functional, but not perfect -
First, believe that you've read, it's true: the elastic band across the top of your foot is annoying and uncomfortable. Cut it off and you'll be much happier. Second, there is no arch support. I don't know why anyone says that there is. They must not have much of an arch. But if you do, you won't be happy with these shoes unless you get some arch inserts. Over all, it's comfy and cute, but needs improvement.

These shoes were made for walking - I'm the gal who takes numerous shoes on trips. I have really picky feet; blisters happen. On a recent trip to Peru, this was my lone pair of shoes. For 14 days, from Lima to Machu Picchu, these babies kept me comfortable. No blisters, no rubbing, no problems. I love them.

I bought this black pair to go with my brown and army pairs of this model. I like the Amsterdam because it is more narrow than some of the other Keen models. They are comfortable and easy to put on. I use my "army" pair for dog walking and the other pairs for everything else including the Symphony.

I love these shoes!
I am a microbiologist, so I have to wear closed-toed shoes in my lab for safety reasons. I was sick of wearing the same old running shoes, so I thought that I would give these shoes a try. I LOVE them! They are comfortable, cute, and look good with a variety of outfits. Unlike many of the other reviewers, I have not had any problems with the elastic strap. I wore these for 10 hours when they were brand new and I did not have any blisters. I have already ordered another pair of Keen shoes because I love these so much!

Fabulous shoe - If you cut the elastic strap on the instep! The shoe is super comfortable and supportive and is great for heavy duty walking
bought mine for a trip to Disney. However as other reviewers have pointed out, there is a separate elastic strap under the leather Mary Jane strap and it literally crushes your instep as you walk. Since I was stuck with this shoe on my vacation, I literally took a pair of nail scissors and cut it out. Voila, I still can adjust the leather strap (it velcros to the other side) and no more horribly tight, crushing elastic strap. Keen, did any human being try this shoe on before you put it into production? Otherwise it's perfect.

I wear 9.5 narrow, so based on some reviewer's remarks that this is a relatively narrow shoe, I ordered 9.5 (it doesn't come in narrow). Had I been trying this on in the store, I wouldn't have bought without trying on the 9, as these seem a little long. But they seemed close enough to okay to keep. As to the width, these shoes are plenty wide, but they have the world's tightest elastic strap under the regular strap. I found it painful after a day's wear, and I have narrow feet with low arches! The elastic strap needs to either be about 1/4 of an inch longer, or it needs to be mounted on the inside of the shoe rather than the outside. The reason it hurts is that it is mounted on the outside and forces the top of the shoe into your foot. At this point, if I hadn't already worn them outside I'd send these shoes back. I expect better quality for the price. That said, these are otherwise cute shoes and if it weren't for the stupid elastic, they'd be very comfortable. What the heck is wrong with the people at Keen?!!

Not a good fit -
In all other Keen shoes (and I have many), I wear an 8.5 without any problems, but this shoe rubbed my foot in the wrong places. At the end of the first day, I had blisters on my heels, little toe, and irritation where the strap crossed the top of my foot.

Like slippers -
I have these in black and wore them all over Italy. They were quite comfortable. That said - they are not nearly as wide and don't have the toe room that most Keens do. And I had to take the advice of many reviewers and cut out the elastic. Even though I have quite narrow and flat feet, the elastic dug in to the top of my foot. Once free of the elastic- the shoe is really like walking around in bedroom slippers!

LOVE THEM!
These are wonderful!!! They are super comfortable, stylish, a great summer shoe for pants when you don't want to wear sandals. They are not too hot like some other shoes (important since I am in Texas). Others mentioned the elastic under the strap, and it is a bit tight, but ok for me. I kind of like it, but I could see where some might not. Not a deal breaker though, as you can cut it off.

Wish it worked for me...
I like the shoes. Maybe it's my feet that don't work here. The shoes were on the verge of being both too long and too narrow. The toe box was fairly roomy, but the rest of the shoe back to the heel seemed uncomfortably snug. I had a feeling the shoes would be hot to wear after a while as well. The opening was hitting on a bad spot on my feet too. The shoes seemed well made, lots of cushioning in the sole. Regardless of what Zappos description says, mine were velcro closed, not hook and loop. And the strap... what were they thinking? It may loosen up eventually on it's own, but I can see why people are tempted to cut it out of there. It doesn't seem functional other than to make you say "ouchie!"
If my feet were shaped differently, I think they would be keepers. Sadly, they are going back, and I'll look for something that suits me a bit better.

Very comfortable -
I purchased these shoes for a trip in which I was going to wear them for many long hours and walk many long miles and never once did I regret my purchase. The whole time, I hardly knew I had them on they were so comfortable. They worked well with pants and a skirt. I walked on all sorts of surfaces and even rode a bike in these shoes. When they got wet and they dried quickly. I am very pleased.

Outstanding shoe -
I now have 2 pair of Keens Amsterdam, and have just ordered a third. Of all the 'low'shoes I have there is no doubt in my mind that over the past years this shoe is the most comfortable and attractive I have worn for a long time. Highly recommend them - don't find the strap to be a problem. Go for it!

Good emergency travel shoes!
The Keen Amsterdam runs small - I wear a very definite 10, and had to return the 10s for 10.5s. It was nice to have the option of a size 10.5! I also started with the black shoes but thought them rather ugly, so exchanged for the fun and funky Ruby Wine color.
I wore these, for the first time after testing them around the house, on a flight to Germany in December. When we arrived and found that our luggage hadn't, I was stuck in my brand-new Keen Amsterdams for two solid days.
I am flat-footed and often use orthotics but thought that the built-in support was decent. Despite my flat, narrow feet, the elastic strap bit painfully into my feet by the end of our first day, leaving lovely bruises across the tops of both of them. Thanks to the Zappos reviews, I knew this might be an issue (though it took a while to occur) and cut out the elastic to leave a much more comfortable shoe.
Aside from being a little cold in Munichs wintery weather (and aside from the painful and unnecessary elastic strap and the resulting bruises) these were great shoes for a couple of days of urban sightseeing.

Would return them if I could!
I own 3 other pair of Keens and love them all so I thought of Keen for a "dressy" walking shoe to wear around Italy. Even tho I have bunions these shoes fit and felt OK when I tried them on so I bought them. But I started hating them after wearing them for just a few days and the hate continues the more I wear them.
Why? Here are the pros and cons:
Pros - I like the "stylish" design, black color and cushy heel when walking.
Cons -
1-Elastic strap. What was Keen thinking? Why is there an elastic strap under the leather strap that uses velcro? Redundant and not necessary. My foot is not fat nor is my arch high but after wearing these for just a few hours, the strap was cutting off my blood circulation. I had to cut the elastic strap off and it functions just fine without the redundancy.
2- Color - the shoe is black but the toe bumper and side & rear sole are a funky grey or brown depending upon the light; not sure why it's not black like the rest of the shoe.
3- Looking at the knobby toe bumper and heel one would think the bottom sole would have some substance since it's listed as a walking shoe. Well the sole is perfectly flat, no ridges etc. so it's slippery on wet surfaces and doesn't grab on pebble surfaces. All looks, no substance.
4 - This is a big one for me - NO arch support! Again, if it's supposed to be a walking shoe, why doesn't it have a decent arch support like other Keens?
This shoe would have been returned except I tried to correct one of the big issues by cutting the elastic strap (taking another's suggestion about this problem) so it was my loss. I'm sure there are other shoes that will meet your needs better.

Really comfortable, great with skirts or pants -
After reading the comments here, I bought a 9 and 9.5, but it was the 9s, my size, that fit best. 9.5 were way too big! The elastic strap may get cut, but I'm trying it out for a few days first. I haven't tried putting in my orthodics but the support is so great, I don't feel like I need them either. I'll be wearing this shoe all over Europe with pants and skirts.

Cute but not quite the right fit -
I wish I'd paid better attention to the comments of other reviewers before I ordered these because I would not have had them on my list. Specifically, the elastic strap that is under the "mary jane" strap was awkward for me in getting the shoe on. That's normally the case, and I avoid shoes with fixed elastic straps, so back these go, but it's my "bad" for not paying more attention to the description. Also, I found them just a little wide across the instep. Cute though, and the coffee color is a great neutral.

Cute shoe!!
This is my first pair of Keens and I am not disappointed! They are *really* cute and comfortable too. The only weird thing is the elastic strap -- in the picture you can't see it, but its there underneath when you lift the velcro strap. It isn't adjustable or anything and I can see how it would be too tight on some. Seems weird and unnecessary to me, but hasn't caused me any problems. I *Love* this shoe, and now want it in a few more colors!

My favorites!
I got these for a trip where I was planning to do a lot of walking. I did cut the elastic strap, and found them very comfortable. I usually wear a medium width shoe, and I don't find them sloppy (and I don't have to pull the velcro strap way over to keep them on). I could see how they wouldn't fit people with wider feet as well. But for me, they're great!

I've received a lot of positive comments on this shoe, and they are really comfortable. I haven't cut the elastic strap yet (as recommended by some buyers) but that is the only thing that keeps these shoes from being perfect.

Finally gave up; cuts into top of toes too painfully -
Not Recommended. *** I tried the advice of folks in these comments and trimmed the elastic, which helped ease the binding across the top of the foot. I then thought the front part of the top opening would ease & stretch over time. However, it really hasn't and it cuts right across the base of the bones of my toes in a very painful fashion. I held onto these shoes for a while because they're cute & easy to get in and out of, but after too many walks that left me with sore feet - even short walks within my neighborhood - I am giving them to Goodwill in hopes they find a home with a flatter-footed or shorter-toed person. Keen needs to take these back to the drawing board.
Other brands recommended by reviewer: Any other Keen shoe. All other styles I've gotten have been great.

I hear they work 24/7 and love every minute of it; but that some have to take time off at Xmas to head for the Pole! Oh well I'm sure you get subs. Thank all of them for me!
