I am not an experienced hiker, and have never owned a pair of hiking boots before. But I bought these boots in preparation for a 10 day mission trip to El Salvador to work on Habitat homes. I knew I would be working hard on my feet all day for several days, and in dirty conditions. I ordered 5 different pairs of boots from Zappos in a range of styles and prices. I chose this pair based on the comfort and style. Although it was the most expensive pair I tested, I wanted good quality. I have been thrilled with these boots. I wore them for a few walks around the neighborhood prior to my trip, and they were immediately very comfortable. On my trip I was wearing them 12 hours a day doing things like shoveling dirt and sand and hauling concrete. They felt great and still look good even after this abuse. I highly recommend these boots.

As with the rest of the reviewers, these boots are great right out of the box. I took them on a 60 mile backpacking trip in Arizona and had no problems at all with them. My only issue with these boots is durability. The GTX lining has started separating from the boot. I'm not really sure why as other than that one trip, I haven't subjected them to any heavy use.

Great for Hot Climates -
Bought these while in the middle of an expedition through southern Arizona. 100% comfortable right out of the box. Now I've used them in Afghanistan and Iraq... keep your feet cool, very little moisture buildup, fit like a sneaker, support like an ankle brace. I love wearing these. The bright colors stand out a bit; I typically go for a more subdued color scheme. But the looks are well worth the colors.

Excellent -
Excellent light to mid hiker. Great ankle support and traction. Fit like a glove right out of the box with no breakin period, which was a big plus for me.
I replaced a set of Solomon boots I bought 2 years ago that I thought would fit better once they were broken in, but it never happened. These Vasque are extremely comfortable and I tried on over a dozen different pairs for several hours each. These were the most comfortable right out of the box.

Stop shopping; buy this shoe; save yourself some time -
I work construction and I am on my feet all day every day, and I have worn these boots from spring to fall for the last 3 years. I go through one pair per year, but the comfort is amazing. Extremely light and breathable even in the humid Kentucky summers. Waterproof until you submerge the boot over the tongue. Only flaw I have found is that the boot fails at the instep/ball of the foot seam every time. This may be peculiar to my usage, not sure. Love the boots, would probably last average wearer much longer than my 9 months. I wear a 10.5 in tennis shoes, 10.5 in these boots, true to size for me.

This is the first time I have paid this much for a boot, but I wanted quality and comfort and so far this boot has definitely delivered. I cannot believe Zappos customer service, shipping policy, etc. First time customer, but I will be back.

Great boot - great fit.
Everyone's feet are different, but Vasque continues to fit and work well for me. I am easy on boots and shoes generally, but I still believe Vasque boots take the punishment. Though I paid considerably less for my last pair five years ago - everything increases over time. Great service from Zappos!

Vasque Breeze - light hiker -
I have previously used the Vasque Caldera for several hundred miles. The Caldera is an essential armored one piece all leather boot and is for heavier loads. It weighs several ounces more that the Breeze. I found it to vent sweat insufficiently in the summer to keep the feet dry, but it was excellent in wet, muddy, rough conditions. The Caldera is no longer manufactured and I was looking for a lighter rock solid boot. The Breeze was comfortable right out of the box and the break-in period has been minimal. I am a bit concerned about the stitching, but so for the cloth/leather composite appears to be tolerating wet conditions each morning for 2 weeks well. I did seal the seams with superglue to protect the stitching from abrasion. The boot has been water-resistant as usual for GORTEX - prolonged wet grass exposure(>1 hour) still results in some dampness - but no overt leaks. Overall a great boot for lighter hiking. Excellent upper ankle support. Fits one size bigger than usual shoe size. Plenty of toe box room. I have yet to test it in muddy conditions, but it has a great cleated sole which gives good traction.

I made a good choice -
I had ordered a pair of hiking shoes from Zappos for a trip to Mexico in the spring. I then spoke with my sister, who said that the travel agent recommended a higher boot for the trip. I called Zappos and they immediately credited my account - Great Service!
Reading all of the reviews helped me a lot in making my decision. In buying the Vasques I got a much sturdier boot that was a bit heavier and stiffer-soled than I was used to, and now I see why they were the better choice. The stiffer sole keeps your foot from flexing and gives you a much better grip on the terrain. I thought they'd feel heavy, but they're fine. The padding envelopes your foot in comfort and they're great to walk in. I need to put them to a real test yet, and I'm trying a different memory foam insert to see which is better. Initially I thought that the height in the back of the shoe might wear on my ankle, so I worked it softer so it would bend down easier, and I found that loosening the top set of laces took care of that.
My only complaint is that the Vibram sole slips on hard, wet sidewalks. I'm hoping that they will break in and get better at that. I don't want to slip and fall in a stream.
I'd buy Vasque from Zappos again.

Walk your way from the box to the hills -
These light hiking shoes are just what I needed. I literally took these boots out of the box and wore them on a 10 mile pack in the Sierras. No break-in was needed. I usually wear new boots around town before taking them on a trip. They were light with plenty of support for my weight and backpack. I should have bought 2 pairs.

Little pricey, but well worth it...
I put these shoes on right out of the box and did a 7 mile trail. Felt like I'd been wearing them for 6 months already. Extremely comfortable, high quality in everyway. Good soles, light weight, stylish design and really good support for rough terrain. I highly recommend these boots to anyone.

So Far So Good - Ankle Support -
For the hiking and backcountry backpacking I do, I needed something with really good ankle support. I've been wearing a low rise hiking shoe to save weight, but in the evenings after a long day of hiking my ankles were sore and slightly swollen. The Breeze, you can lace up so tight on your ankles that your feet will fall off! So, you've got a very adjustable amount of support depending on the terrain your on. So far, my ankles have barely been sore at all after a day in these boots. It's a miracle! I expected an improvement, but not to that degree. Moral: Good ankle support.
The tread on these boots is super grippy as well. If you slip, you better check that your feet are still attached. They get a little clogged in squishy mud, but a few stamps of your feet and you're good to go.
I don't write reviews often, but these boots are definitely worth a look for any avid hiker/backpacker.
I did order a half size smaller than I normally do. It helped with getting a snug fit. Break in time was minimal.
I do recommend some after market insoles with some extra arch support if you need it for long days.

This shoe saved my vacation!
I have had a slew of physical issues - including pain in my foot and hip. A week before a 2-1/2 active trip to New Zealand, I found this shoe. It fit great, provided outstanding support, and clearly resulted in improved foot stability. This meant less pain and increased ability to participate in demanding treks. One day I had to slosh through the ocean. The shoes dried quickly and were absolutely none the less for the wear! I attribute much of the success I had activity-wise on the trip to this shoe. I immediately notice problems when I wear other shoes, which attests to its outstanding support. I wish they made women's shoes in extended sizes. For transitioning to a men's shoe, this shoe by far exceeded other brands as the shoe fit well in the ankle whereas other brands have not. I've never written a shoe review before - another high praise accolade for this shoe!

Great Vasque Footwear-
I was looking for a snow boot that was not heavily insulated. The Vasque Breeze GTX-XCR more than met my expectations. I'm most impressed with the temperature situation. It's not too warm for wearing indoors but it is more than sufficient for winter outdoor wear. Light in weight, comfortable, and look great.

Outstanding Lightweight Boot -
This is my third try to find a great replacement for my heavy leather boots and it figures I would settle on a Vasque. I went here for the wide toe box and found a really sticky and solid sole that protects my feet against everything the trails here (White Mountains of NH) have.
I hike with a light pack, 20-30 lbs. These are my summer boots as I reserve my more waterproof heavy leather boots (Also Vasque) for winter hikes with snowshoes and crampons. They provide adequate ankle support. The Goretex model does not have the problems with small stuff working it's way through the uppers like the non Goretex model does.

Nearly zero break-in, super comfort, grippy on trail -
I am a Vasque fan -- I'be been using Vasque low light hiking boot for 6 years. My first pair killed my feet on the first day after a long hike in Utah. I had a bloody heel! I hated them! But after day one -- wow, were they great. (I figured out that I did NOT need to lace them tightly.) I've never had another problem after years of hiking in national parks in U.S. and Canada. Not one blister. The only downside was those boots were not waterproof.
So I decided to try the Vasque Breeze GTX, which is both waterproof and and mid- to high rise. In the last few weeks, I've worn the boots on city streets, and they felt comfortable. This week came the true test -- a week of hiking in Oregon.
My grade after a week of hiking? A+++. The boot is light and very comfortable. It fits my foot perfectly (just like my last pair) and again, it definitely does not need tight lacing. Just tie them up and go.
The grip is fantastic. I came down Smith's Rock in Central Oregon, which is pretty steep, and it was a breeze. My friends couldn't keep up.
Durability may be a question mark. My last pair tore out at the heel (a little) in the first year, but it never affected their performance. I also hiked through snow and mud, and the shoes shrugged off the mess.
I wonder about the mesh on this pair. How durable will it be?
I suspect that my foot is about perfect for the Vasque mold. So if you like Vasque shoes, you will like this one. It's a light shoe for hard hiking. I personally think it would be fine in cold temps, great in warm temps.

Rick from Minneapolis -
This boot was my first foray into purchasing boots from Vasque. I have wore many (ECCO, MERRILL, NIKE, and TECHNICA to name a few). The fit is so excellent (keeping in mind I have 49 yr. old feet) and comfortable. Perhaps my biggest surprise regarding these boots, is the wide temperature comfort range. I have never owned a cooler/dryer pair of shoes/boots with Gortex in my life. I came to this deduction while just testing this boot in Waimea Canyon Kaui, HI. The temps were in the 70-80's, the moisture management and temp. control was great (not to mention the views). Have no problem with foot comfort in 10 degree temps walking the dogs here in good ol Mpls. either. Hope to test these ol rides on the Western coast of Italy this fall!

VASQUE BREEZE GTX -
Vasque is undoubtedly the best boot on the market. I have owned several pairs for the last 10 years or so. I've done everything from day hiking, 3 day trips, home construction, yard work, and pouring concrete commercially. These boots take it and keep on taking it. My wife used zappos before and I just happened to see this on her web favorites listing while looking for a replacement pair. These boots can be pricey, but they last longer by far than the cheaper varieties. And Zappos even saved me some money. Zappos was quick and easy and had lightning fast shipping. I'll be back for more...great website!!

Great lightweight hiking boot!
I bought this lightweight boot after being VERY disappointed with the sizing of the North Face Adrenaline XCR Mid. I took the boots to Costa Rica for some jungle hiking and they were perfect - not too hot, not heavy and waterproof. I also plan to use them this summer while sea kayaking/hiking in Alaska.

Vasque Lost It -
I bought a pair of Vasque in 1977, and they still serve me well. They took me on many a trek in the New Mexico Rockies, and never failed me. They're still going strong.
I bought a pair in 1997, thinking that the product would be of at least equal quality, if not better. The hardware rusted in days, and the so-called benefits of Gore-Tex simply left my feet sweaty and gave me atlete's foot.
Nature apparently knows best. Nothing beats my '77 Vasque boots with a pair of ragg wool socks with a pair of silk sock underneath. Too bad everyone thinks they know better today; a bit of respect for our elders would wear well, just as the boots they created do.
Other brands recommended by reviewer: Anything made before 1980; yeah, they're heavy, but damn they wear well and don't stink like a chemical factory.
