Comfy support, but patent straps rubs toe - I bought the spice perle patent color, and, although it felt very supportive, the leather was way too stiff on the section that goes between your big toe and second toe. I would've had blisters after walking for just a bit. I'm sure the nubuck was probably softer, but unfortunately they don't have any nubuck colors in my size right now. I usually wear an 8 but ordered a 9 and it fits very well.

Had to break this pair in...
This is the third pair of "Helen" sandals that I have owned, and it's the first time I've had to break them in. The leather between the toes was so stiff that I thought my bones would bruise. I finally wet the leather thoroughly there, and that pretty much took care of it. And once that was accomplished, I got to enjoy the best arch support of any pair of shoes I have ever owned. I hope they make this style forever!

Love Mephisto Helen's!
I think I have one in almost every color! Black patent, red patent, pink nubuck, fuchsia nubuck, navy nubuck, white nubuck, and Hadassa in turquoise! Have been wearing them for more than 10 years! They are so comfortable. I've even had a couple of them refurbished because the color is no longer available! Also, Zappos customer service is the best!

This particular shoe is the most wonderful thing that I have ever come across. It is a wonderful shoe for lower back problems. But let me remind you that not all Mephisto shoes share the same benefits. It is because of the design of the built up arch and cupped heel that makes the difference. Don't ever change them. Thanks.

Love these shoes! Was hesitant to spend so much on a sandal but would do it again on these. Not only do these look really great but are so comfortable right out of the box. I wear them every day!

Mephisto Helen is a very comfortable sandal. I am having problems with my right foot and this sandal is my favorite for comfort.

Fabulous Shoes!
This is my 4th pair of Mephisto Helens! This is the best shoe for my plantar fasciitis. My feet, knees, and back no longer hurt when wearing these shoes with great arch support. They are great for walking and look so cute!

Overall I think this is a wonderful shoe. The only negative I have is that the front strap is too loose over my foot. I have thin feet so there is a gap between the top of my foot and the strap. Otherwise, this is a very comfortable shoe with an excellent footbed. I would like to see the straps with velcro so that the shoe would be more adjustable to all feet types. Great walking shoe. I did try on the shoe in a 38 and 39. I wear a 7.5 or 8 in shoes. I kept the larger size as advised.

Proceed with caution if you have bunions.
The strap over the toe hits me at precisely the wrong place on my left foot, which has the beginnings of a bunion. That was the second thing I noticed when I tried these on. The first was how supportive the foot beds were. I had never put on a shoe that felt like this -- almost like it was molded to my foot. And that's why I'm so disappointed to have to return them. After trying the shoes on and walking around the house for just a few minutes, I had to face up to it -- that the friction from that strap rubbing along my bunion would have caused a blister. It didn't appear that they would stretch in a way that would make that one shoe more comfortable so I just packed them up to return right away. Your mileage may vary, of course, even if you do have bunions. I had no problem with the right shoe during those few minutes of wearing. I don't really like the look (too hippie-ish), but I had only comfort in mind when I decided to try these.

Love the style.
It was recommended to order 1 size up from the size I normally wear. I did that and the shoe was too big. Ordered my normal size and it fit perfectly. Took a day to break in the strap by the big toe. Wear these all the time and love them!

Perfect Posture with Comfort and Style -
Just enough pick me up to do the job with comfort and style. Strong looking and manufactured to perfection. I can't express enough how this sandal will be a keeper forever. Not inexpensive but everyone should save or ask for gift cards from Zappos for that special occasion. Sandal also forces you to have better posture with that special comfort that we all deserve. Good for my ankles -
These sandals have really helped my falling ankles. I wear these sandals all the time instead of bare feet. They take a little getting used to, but it's worth it. I wear a 5 1/2, so went with the 6 equivalent. Have had several compliments on how nice they look.

The most comfortable sandal I've ever worn - As soon as I slipped these on I knew it was the sandal I've been looking for. Excellent arch support. I have a narrow foot and this sandal works for me. I had a little problem with one foot where the band of the sandal rubbed on my second toe, but I put a piece of mole skin on the sandal and it was fine. They are very well made, I really like the suede lining – my foot doesn't sweat in them and stick to the shoe. I wear them with everything. They are very cute and I've gotten lots of compliments on them. This is my first pair of Mephistos and it won't be my last. I was a Birkenstock addict – I've now changed to Mephistos. As usual, Zappos is wonderful to deal with. Great company, only wished I lived where you were so I could work for you.

These are the best sandals I have ever owned, they are great for walking and fun to wear. They look very smart with just about any summer outfit and I should know... I'm 74 years young...my young sister told me about these and I'm so glad she did...thanks for such a wonderful product.

Very comfortable shoe. I bought them to wear on a trip. I wear a size 6 and bought the 37. It’s a tad too long but still comfortable. But I should have sent them back for the 36. Other than that I love them.

Repeat purchase – now on 3rd pair! I saw my first pair in France (where they're made) and searched for them. I wore my first pair for 3 summers, my second pair for 2. I've just bought my 3rd pair. SO comfortable; the support they provide (I have fairly high arches) is almost as good as my orthotics and certainly miles ahead of any other sandal I own. Highly recommended.

They have walked all over the French Countryside!
I love them, love them, love them! I need lots of support and these great sandals give it and look good, too. I dress them up with a nice outfit and wear them with shorts. They are the best sandal I have!

I purchased these sandals to replace my old Birkenstocks which look worn and sloppy. The Mephistos are great looking and much trimmer, fitting my narrow foot much nicer. The only problem I have is that after walking for any length of time, the tops of my feet become sore and bruised from the straps. They leave no blisters though and the bed of the shoe provides wonderful support and cushioning. I hope that continued wear will work out this problem.

Worth every penny -
I love Zappos! I have several pairs of the Helen sandal and it is the most comfortable sandal or shoe I've ever had. I usually have 3-4 pairs at any one time and switch off. I also get tons of compliments on the look. Wonderful support. I've had trouble with plantar fasciitis and have very high arches and these are incredible. I wear them constantly. I am a 9-9.5 and by a size 39. I like the Nubuck, but if you buy a light color, spray it or be prepared for stains. You do have to avoid getting these wet. They can be re-soled by sending them back to Mephisto, but it’s expensive, and they replace everything but the leather uppers. I always just buy a new pair...
