Wonderful work boot -
MY husband, a corrections officer, desperately needed a good, black work boot and this fit the bill perfectly. He has very wide feet which are sometimes hard to accommodate- however their wide width boot was perfect for him. A definite buy if you are on your feet all day!

My first and only issue was shoe width. I test fitted Cat boots at a local store, then ordered the same size from Zappos. I have flat feet, so it ended up being too narrow. The Wide size fits great. Very easy and quick exchange. It looks great, fits great, breaks in within a couple of days, and I can walk for a whole day in them. I would definitely buy them again.

Bought these Cat Alaska FX boots to replace a pair of MC boots. They felt great right out of the box. They are very comfortable and flexible just like a pair of running shoes. I usually wear an 11 but because 11's were out stock I bought an 11.5 and they fit perfectly. Very happy with these.

Comfortable, durable, classic design, great workmanship.
The Alaska boot is a lace-to-toe design, which allows the user to tune the fit more precisely. I can confirm that the boots do become more comfortable after wearing them for a couple of days. Quite stiff at first, the boots were noticeably more comfortable on the third day than on the first, as the leather gradually became more flexible and conformed to my feet. After a week, they feel very good, and working on concrete all day doesn't induce fatigue. My boots DO have the removable polyurethane insole, which a couple of other reviewers have mentioned that their boots lacked. Perhaps there was a design change, and the new advertising was online before all old stock was sold? In any event, my boots provide a high standard of comfort and arch support, with the insole providing some degree of cushion. Goodyear welt construction means that the boots can be resoled. The sole is a firm rubber, with very deep tread in a pattern unique to Caterpillar, so new soles should not be necessary for a very long time. The laces thread through four sets of D-rings, then around four sets of hooks bearing the CAT logo. All the hardware is riveted to the leather, and appears to be blackened (not painted) in a process similar to that used on firearms. The interior of the boot is lined with a moisture-wicking fabric; the padded tongue appears to be made of black suede. The overall workmanship appears to be flawless, with uniform, unblemished leather and perfect, evenly spaced stitching.
There is only one feature which I feel detracts slightly from these boots, and that is the padded collar around the ankle. It appears to be made of some synthetic material which resembles leather. This reduces the overall perceived quality of the boot. These collars seem a bit incongruous with the rest of the boot, sort of like buying a Range Rover, and finding cheap vinyl seat covers. For this reason, I gave only 4 stars for "Look", 5 stars for everything else.
I'd vastly prefer to see the collar made in the manner of the Dickies 6" "Trader On Wall Toe" (Zappos SKU #120680), that is, leather all the way up on the outside, moisture-wicking fabric on the inside. If another material must be used, perhaps more breathable Cordura would serve better in this location. That said, padded collars are very common on other brands of boot as well, so it isn't as if Caterpillar is alone in this regard. I admit also that, prior to purchasing these Caterpillars, I've worn one pair of another brand boot every day for over two years, and had no problem with the synthetic material at the collar wearing out or cracking. Also, I notice that no other reviewer has commented on the collar, so perhaps it is less of a quality issue, and more of a personal preference. However, I hope Caterpillar considers changing the specification of the collar to something else.
These Caterpillar Alaska boots look good with my work pants and with jeans for casual wear. Walking in them reminds me somewhat of driving my old Jeep truck, in that they have a ready-for-anything-under-any-conditions sort of feeling.

My husband is the hardest to buy for. He goes through work boots like crazy. He has a small foot so it is very hard to find the right size. The first time he put these on he said "they feel like I've worn them forever". Thanks Zappos for being able to provide his boots. We will be back.

My husband wears these. They last longer than any others we have tried. He is in grease, he welds, walks on concrete and climbs. They are good overall boots.

Very good work boot. I got them from my dad for Christmas. They are true to their word when they say, Slip-Resistant,Oil Resistant,Tough TechniFlex Construction, Good fit. These boots are lighter and more durable for more work. I'm impressed!

I was actually looking for the style Alaska without the fx but this is the closest thing to it. It's alright but they don't move with you as well as I had hoped and the bottom of the shoe is very hard and hurts my feet.

These boots are great. My husband and I both purchased a pair to wear on our goldwing as a lighter boot. We do have the heavy duty motorcyle boot but there are times we like to wear a lighter but durable pair. This boot fit the bill. My husband owns another pair of caterpillar boot/shoe that he bought last year in a store and he loves them. Caterpillar puts out a great product for the consumer

I bought 2 pair of these boots (1 in each color) which are the 5th and 6th pairs of these Caterpillar I have owned. They seemed to have changed the construction slightly, but are as comfortably as ever, with little or no break in discomfort.

What removable sock liner?
These shoes look and feel great and the only thing I could not get was the removable sock liner. My friend ordered it twice and still did not get it, but the shoes are great and I really liked them.

I like 'em.
I actually got my pair of "Alsaka's" by accident. Ordered boots through a large chain and they sent the wrong style. At first I was frustrated, then tried them on and gave 'em a test drive. I work in Medical/Corrections and my work place can be very slippery and dangerous. My CAT Alaska's are doing very well under the circumstances and I will pick up another pair when money permits. My brother also commented they look like "waffle stompers" from the '70's, I agree, I also always thought "waffle stompers" were cool. In regard to CAT boots, they all have served me well in in the bowels of hell. Enjoy!!!
