No breaking in!
I just received these shoes and they are great! I only just discovered Birkenstocks recently and really wanted a clog or shoe. I just got these shoes delivered and they are a perfect fit. I read some other reviews that said to go up a size, which I did. They are perfect. I also chose narrow since I am a woman with regular width size 12 feet. These shoes do look big, but my feet are big, so I am used to big looking shoes. These are well worth the money. I am sure they will last for many years. They are so comfortable I don't want to take them off.

Great shoe for someone who stands a lot -
I loved the shoes. I just started culinary school and I'm on my feet a lot and my feet or legs don't hurt at all when I wear these shoes. I would recommend them to anyone.

Favorite shoe of all time-
These are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. This is my second pair. I have a pair in each color as well as many other Birkenstock shoes and sandals. I like the Footprint shoes also.

Yet another great pair of birks -
Though the sizing charts say to order the next euro size up, I took a chance (since they were out of that size) and ordered my regular birkenstock size - a 43 (i'm between a 9 1/2 and 10, wide). To my surprise, the 43s fit perfectly, in both length and width. These are built like a birkenstock - solid, no nonsense, no frills. And they arrived the very next day!

shorter than expected -
I ignored Zappos' advice to order 1 size up at my peril. I consequently used a razor to shave off the toe end. I sacrificed aesthetics for sake of the anatomical footbed which a foot like mine requires. The Alton is recommended.

I found them true to size with all my other Birks. They required no breaking in and I wore them for a 12 hour day the first time out in them. I can wear them with anything except a dress, and they are well worth the investment.

Chef's point of view -
I'm an Executive Chef in NYC and have always worn Birkies. The Alton is a new shoe for me and it's a winner as far as I'm concerned. It's definitely a step up from the Professional in looks and comfort.

All my shoes are Birkis, however this pair seems to be so comfortable and as tired as I get some days, my back never aches if i have worn my Altons all day!

Birkenstock Alton -
I decided to go one size up for the Alton. I am an 8M (38N in a Birkenstock sandal), and have a relatively high instep. The size 39N fits as I imagine a Birkenstock should fit -- plenty of toe room but not loose fitting. The size 38N would have crowded my toes. A great looking casual clog. Exceptional comfort and quality.

Perfect for extra wide feet -
I have wide feet and am always looking for comfortable shoes. The Berk Alton is great. I like the removeable cork liners as they can be replaced when they wear out. The shoe is so well built it looks like it will last for years. And, clogs are fashionable all year round. The only reason that I gave the look 4 stars is that I wish the Alton came in more colors. I would love to own this shoe in a cherry red, green, navy, or burgundy.

Mixed review of a favorite brand -
I have been looking for these particular shoes for at least a year. I am more than willing to go through the discomfort of breaking in Birks until they fit. These shoes are extremely tough to break in though. I have subjected them to several shifts which require me to be on my feet and yet they still have the feel of new shoes. I am slightly disappointed the break in has taken so long. Hopefully they will pay for them selves in comfort and longevity.

These shoes are very comfortable, as expected from Birks, but I wear a size 10 (42 narrow) and they looked absolutely enormous on me, very wide, like clown shoes. Unfortunately, I'm returning them. I'd guess they would look good on guys or possibly in a smaller size. Otherwise, they are very comfortable and very well made. EXCELLENT service from Zappo's - I received them only two days after I ordered them, and returning them is very easy.

Overall very comfortable shoe. These are especially good for anyone with a wide foot. I have wide feet and actually found these to feel a bit TOO wide for me. I've noticed alot of people saying they felt true to size or smaller than marked. I found them to feel quite a bit larger than expected. I would reccomend ordering 1/2 size smaller than usual. I ended up sending mine back because of the size.

Bonkers for Birkies -
I normally wear an 8.5 - 9 wide. I tried to get a 40 R and kept receiving a 39 R... Almost perfect, just a teenie bit too short for me. I recieved the 40 R and, rats, they were way too wide. Such a Dilemma, Oy! After a 'taste' if the 39R, I've become obsessed.
I work in a hospital and am running constantly...I know these shoes will really make a diference. I own several pair of Birks and am comitted to sticking with what works for me. I've decided to send in an outline of my foot and have a Birkmeister determine my correct size. Yeah I know...I'm obsessed. The upside to this is I sldo like the Derby and Windsor which are the same shoe, so once I unlock the secret of my 'fit', I'll be good to go and Birkenstock will be richer for my experience.
Zappos had extrodinary customer service and corporate patience. Service is always the bottom line.
If you're an off the rack size, then you'll not go wrong with this shoe. Can you say AH!

Solid Birkenstock product, great fit, although a little more snug than anticipated. Looks and feels sturdy. Not broke in yet, but I believe it will conform as have all my Birkenstocks. Not a hippie shoe, I will wear in multiple circumstances. Thanks, Birkenstock, you did it again.

I love these, they are very stylish. I think they look really hot with jeans, especially. They are very comfortable, too. They will be a great replacemrent for my Birkenstock sandals when the weather gets too cool for sandals.

I love Birkenstock shoes/sandels!!! I own several pairs in many styles and have found them to be the only shoe that fits my feet due to my high arches. The Alton is comfortable but I needed to order my next size up due to the different sizing on this particular style. It must have a "wearing in" period as I thought at first it was a bit small as my toe did touch the end. The more I wore this shoe, the more it fit my foot. I am in the restaurant business and on my feet all day. This shoe is perfect for me as I am a server, though I do wear my Birki super clogs when I am in the kitchen. I would definitely recommend this shoe but be sure of the sizing as it is different than other Birkenstocks.
