I love this shoe. The North Face has discontinued the Ultra 103 XCR -- get them soon before they're gone forever! One of the best fitting shoes I've ever worn. Nice, stable feel on and off road. The lacing system allows for plenty of adjustment. Like most women, my feet are narrower through the heel and mid-foot, but wider through the forefoot and this shoe fits like a glove. The best part -- no heel slip! I wear orthotics and they fit with no problems after swapping them out with the original insoles. I've also worn them with the original insoles and was surprised at how good the arch support was (though I'll stick with my orthotics as they do offer a bit more support for my goofy feet). The North Face is replacing this shoe with a new model -- the 104. I've no idea how the 104 will fit, but it's nowhere near as good-looking as the 103.

Great for rainy season -
I live in Oregon, where it is ALWAYS raining! I am so excited to have this shoe. It is completely lined with a waterproof material! And Zappos has the best customer service in the world! I placed an order one night at 9:00 p.m. and the package was on my doorstep by 5:00 the next afternoon!

Nice shoes....
I like these a lot. They are comfortable and cute. They do run a little big. I usually buy an 8, but the 7.5 was a better fit. My foot is narrow, which could be why this shoe seemed wider than normal to me. However, I wear Thorlo's with them, so the extra width isn't a big deal.

Really fantastic shoe!!
No breaking in time - fit perfectly. However, I found them one full size bigger than I usually am. I am typically a 7.5 but needed the 6.5. They give great support and are exceptionally warm. I love the fact that they are waterproof!!

I like the shoes!
I bought these shoes for my job at a dog kennel. Between taking dogs swimming and walking through dewy grass my feet were always wet, and I was miserable because I went through plenty of tennis shoes and all of them ended up having to be thrown out because they smell, and the moisture was giving me athlete's foot.
These shoes definitely do the job. My feet are no longer wet, and I think these shoes are pretty comfortable. I was worried that I'd risk looking manly wearing these shoes, but the blue/gray combo is actually pretty feminine and I'm not embarrassed wearing them.
My one complaint is that like another customer, the bottom of these shoes is very slippery on certain surfaces. Outside, they are fine, but when the tile floors are mopped at my job, I have come close to falling many times. Other than that, I'm really happy to have bought these shoes. No more miserable days in wet tennis shoes!

Not my favorite shoes, just ok -
These shoes have felt stiff from day one (I actually thought about returning them but needed something before a trip so I ended up keeping them). These feel boxy and clunky to me and my feet get hot in them! I love my other 3 pairs of North Face sneakers but these are just ok for me.

Comfortable and rugged...exactly what I was looking for. The insole has a weird little bump right in the middle under my arch, but I think that will wear down as I break them in. Sizing is right on the money -- I usually wear a 9 or 9.5...I ordered a 9.5 and it fits perfectly. Lots of room in the toe box, and still room for a thick pair of socks if I choose. Very light (like a running shoe), but with great tread and Gore-Tex waterproofing that I'm looking forward to testing out in our cold, wet Michigan fall/winter weather. Zappos is amazing -- I ordered these at 7pm (Eastern Time) and they were on my doorstep at 2:15pm the next afternoon. Thanks, Zappos!

Wonderful all-season shoe -
I wear this shoe year-round for speed walking in Chicago and Manchester, England (so lots of snow and rain). Reasonable traction on ice, good traction on snow-covered pavement, and great traction on wet pavement. Truly waterproof. Warm and insulating in cold weather, but comfortable in summer. Could use more padding.

The ankle cut-out area is positioned too far forward, so the lower part of my ankle rubs. I inserted heel cups to help raise my ankle and that has helped some.

Great trail running shoes -
I ran a 4 mile race with these straight out of the box and had no problems. They did seem a little stiff at first, but worked out great.
Thanks Zappos!

So Comfortable -
I love these shoes, I put them on and walked my usual 2 miles a day. They are very comfortable and so lightweight, they didn't feel like new shoes. I love the color and am very pleased with the fit.

Great shoe BUT....
My husband and I started trail running and here in the northwest waterproof is essential, these were a bit pricey but worth every penny. The only MAJOR and DANGEROUS issue is they are sooo slippery on smooth wet surfaces (think wooden bridges and steel grates) We had to almost walk across these surfaces to avoid slipping. My husband has the Endurus BOAs and they have the same poor traction issue. On trails they are great and very light and comfortable. True to size and fit.

You won't regret it.
I was skeptical to spend so much on a sneaker but these are the best, most comfortable sneakers I have ever owned!

Too stiff -
These shoes were a lot stiffer than I expected. They hit high on the ankle and pinched around my Achilles tendon. I returned them after walking around my house in them for an hour or so because of the ankle issue. Other reviewers said there was no break-in period but these felt so stiff it seems like if I had kept them I would have had some pretty serious blisters. Other than that the toe box fit nice and roomy (I have fairly wide feet).

Pleased with this shoe -
I am not a trail runner. I bought this for a walking shoe because it gives great support against pronation, it fits snuggly in the heel, it looks fine, and it is waterproof. I am very satisfied with the North Face Ultra 103 XCR. Most shoes I have tried are too wide, too loose, offer no support, and, on occasion, look too dorky looking.

Great Shoe -
Finally a gore-tex shoe that is light enough for everyday wear with great support for someone who is on their feet all day. The shoe runs true to size and had NO break in period. It seems to have a slightly wider toe box than some other North Face products so it really helps you if you have a wider foot. I highly recommend this shoe.

Love them! Free shipping is VERY fast shipping!! This was my 1st time ordering from here and I got to tell u it is the BEST free shipping! As for the shoes, they're great! I love the look. They feel great. I drive a school bus so I really like that they r waterproof! I am now looking at the mens shoes for my hubby! I wear a size 9 but cause of the other reviews I ordered a 9.5...the size is just right...

One size too small -
These shoes looked great and probably would have been great if they fit. I always fit into a size 11 and sometimes with extra toe room, but my foot barely squeezed into these.

Doesn't quite fit -
I have a difficult time finding shoes that fit (or maybe I'm just picky :), so the Zappos return policy has been great. I have a high instep and a narrow heel, and when I tightened the laces enough to keep my heel from slipping, they were too tight across my instep. Even fiddling with the laces didn't help much, so back they go.

Looks like a tennie, supports like a hiking boot!
Looking for supportive walking shoes for light trails and concrete sidewalks. These have a LOT of substance between your foot and the ground. Nice looking! Not heavy looking at all. Not wide... BUT... very deep. You can wear good hiking socks or fancy insoles easily. I got the white/grey/red model because of price and am surprised at how nice they look with summer hiking shorts!
I like that they are comparatively dainty-looking for such a sturdy shoe.
We've upped our mileage on our daily walks and combine city street walking with trail and coastal hill climbing. My feet were very sore from too-flexible trail runners. My right little toes were going to sleep from too much slippage in my shoes. Having a boot-like shoe offers a better platform for cushioning and support.
I wear 8.5 regular shoes. These are 9's. Not quite 1/2 size small but I think 8.5 would touch big toe on hills.
I'll check back after some months of use if they don't perform the way I hope they will.

Incredible shoes!
I wanted a good athletic shoe for two reasons: the old ones were pitifully worn and I was (am) recovering from foot surgery so needed adequate support and protection. These are wonderful. They are extremely stable (do not easily allow pronation), have great support, and are comfortable. They are perhaps a little wider and deeper than most athletic shoes (although... I tend to have a thinner foot for its length), however, this is perfect for me as they allow for very thick socks. Additionally, I can get my orthotics and ankle support inside w/o a battle. I would highly recommend these shoes to anyone who plans to do a tremendous amount of walking, or to particularly, those who have foot problems.

Northface Ultra 103 XCR -
Very stable shoe. Comfortable fit, plenty of room for my wide feet but expect a little break in time. They are a little stiff to start. I have been running on very rocky trails and these shoes definitely do the job and offer the support my feet (and ankles) need on rough terraine. These shoes will be replacing my old tried and true Solomons, which unfortunately changed their model over the years so that it no longer offers the support I need. I really like these shoes. They are great for winter running as well.
