So far, so good. Being a freeride/downhiller I was looking for shoe just to wear out, but I can see that this is a functional ride shoe (no cleats though). One con, for me anyway, is they are quite warm, but that's just me. Comfy, wide enough for my huge feet and look pretty cool. They do have a nice stiff sole, which would be good for riding and I like it because it's easier for me to walk as I have a really ugly/bad knee with lots of metal in it. Buy 'em NOW!
Other brands recommended by reviewer: I\'m partial to 661, but I think I may be switching to 5-10

I bought the newer \'scribble\' pattern version of the 5-10 freerider. I really like this shoe for flat pedal riding. The sole is a good bit stiffer than most, and it is almost too sticky to the pedal. This is not a non marking sole, so dont wear them in the house. These shoes are not comfortable for casual wear, the sole is very solid. They seem to be made for one thing, riding. I like the construction, just the right amount of padding on the tongue, not an entire pillow on the top of your foot like some skate shoes. I like the profile of the sole, nothing wraping around the side of the foot to interfere with the crank, just a well though out riding shoe. But if you like to move your feet around when you ride, try another brand of shoe, these grip that well.

I also own and wear the Impact high-top version and low-top version, in addition to the Freerider. In comparing the three, the Impacts have much more padding and stick to the pedals much better. The Freeriders are more BMX oriented. Easier to slip into without having to untie the laces. The traction is what is a little different from the Impacts. The circular nubs that are the traction of the shoe aren't raised as much as the Impacts. This gives the shoe much less sticking power to the pedals. I'm assuming it is specifically for jumps where taking your feet off the pedals in the air is required. They definitely are not for downhill as the less traction provided by these shoes can cause your feet to bounce or skip around on the pedals. When I wear the Freeriders the wearer can feel the bottom of the shoe is almost concave; meaning the shoe does not feel completely flat on the pedals. It feels as if the sides of the bottom are making contact with the pedals, but the very center of the toebox makes little contact resulting in less traction as well. All in all they are decent. I would say if your strictly jumping, then these shoes are great. For freeride and downhill I would go with the Impacts. The Freeriders look cooler of course. I've not tried Vans, but I bet the Freeriders probably stick just as good if not better. I wouldn't mind checking out the Teva B-1 just out of curiousty, but the Five-ten Impacts coupled with Straitline pedals make my feet stick like glue to those pedals. Here's to no injuries.

Great shoe! A bit tighter in the toebox than the fiveten Karver. Next time I probably would order a 1/2 size larger but all is well for now. This shoe does the job for tooling around town on my Swobo. This shoe provides the extra sticky foot power for stopping and has more stiffness than my vans can provide for pedalling. Zappo did it again for providing fast, efficient service. Thanks.

I bought these shoes to go with my Easton Flatboy pedals for mountain bike riding. They stick to the pedals like glue! The fit is good, I\'m an 11.5/46 E and these shoes fit well. Not too narrow for riding and walking isn\'t bad at all and obviously better than walking in spd-equipped shoes. They feel like a skate shoe with a bit more sole between your foot and the ground. The black areas of the shoe are cordura like material and are very tough. The grey areas are some sort of synthetic. I\'ve beaten them up pretty well and other than getting dirty they are holding up very well. They have two vent holes on the inside that let in a little dirt once in a while and there\'s no way these things will keep your feet dry, but they never claim to either. The little vents work, but the shoes are still warmer on your feet than vented cycling shoes. I\'ve read great things about the durability of Five Ten shoes and these have so far lived up to the reputation of the brand.

Fantastic shoes! Great grip on the pedals. It\'s really like cheating. I had some other freeride shoes from 661 and thought they worked well, until I slid off the pedals and raked the back of my calf... They have yet to fail with a week in Whistler and several jump sessions. \r\nOne note though, while I love the soles, I am starting to see some seperation of the band that wraps the outside of the sole. Other reviewers have mentioned this too, and while I personally am not worried about it (a little glue should fix them up) it\'s something 5-10 will need to look at. \r\n\r\nEven with that said, I still love these shoes!!

I wanted a shoe that I can bike commute to work with and was comfortable enough for me to keep on all day long. The skate style doesn't hurt either! I own an older pair of Five Tens that I use for Freeriding on flat pedals, so I knew about their legendary grip. This newer style has nubuck leather and mesh uppers and felt comfortable both on and off the bike. The sole is a bit stiffer than a pair of Nike Dunks, which can be felt while pedaling, but is not a detriment while walking or running to catch a train. The extra traction on any surface is a big plus over any shoe, on the pedals you have to literally lift your foot up to move them, no sliding around at all. I'm a big fan! The icing on the cake was that Zappos delivered them for free the day after I ordered them! I love dealing with them!

Great shoe. It is marketed as a Mountain Bike Shoe and I haven't really used it for anything but in front of my house at this point. That said it does grip the pedals well, but it is not especially stiff and it does not have special toe protection as I was under the impression the other 5.10 biking shoes did. Regardless, it is still a nice shoe, great for those looking for a skate type shoe for biking or just a casual shoe for around town. I'm giving it 4 stars since I thought it was going to have a more DH mountain bike design to it. The comfort is what is to be expected for a skate type shoe as well.

I own and love the Five Ten Impact low shoes for Mountain Biking and BMX. When I saw these shoes with no reviews, I was a little unsure about them, but ordered them anyways. The Freeriders are awesome. They are like a cross between the Impact and a skate shoe, they have advantages from both. They have a nice stiff sole, bomber construction, nice sticky tread, but have a kind of street styling and dont mark up the floors in your house like the impact. The sole isnt so stiff that you cant feel anything, its a good compromise between feeling and stiffness for biking. Ive been using them for BMX racing and cruising around on any bike. I have no complaints. Fit is true. I wear a 12, I feel that other brands usually dont have a true fit as the larger sizes and I end up with a 13 sometimes. I would use these for mountain biking, too.
