I am actually a fairly big fan of the Clarks Unstructured shoes in general. I have a lot of them. They are fairly comfortable out of the box. My only complaint with most unstructured shoes is that they could be a bit more supportive for extended walking or standing. This penny loafer has been a disappointment for me. I have always liked the look of penny loafers. However, I have never found them to be comfortable. Three things bug me about typical pennys: the leather around heel tends to rub the skin over the Achilles tendon. The leather over the top of the shoe (where the penny slot is) tends to be a bit tight. Third, the shoe, like many of the standards like wing tips, etc., is hard from a lack of cushion and is not comfortable for the bottom of the foot. Because I have liked other unstructured shoes, I thought that Clarks would solve these issues. Nope. The only thing Clarks does better is that the foot bed is more comfortable, and that really is due to the inner sole insert, which is great. When I wore these, I actually got blisters on my heels which never happens with Clarks. I have worn Clarks forever and I know what my size is. They are not too small; they fit in general. This problem is solved easily in my view. All they have to do is use the kind of leather design (or something like it) at the heel that they use for most of the other unstructured shoe models. What I mean is, the leather kind of cradles the area around the Achilles area, not the traditional band of hard leather that penny loafer usually have.
