An attractive can-wear-all-day-in-comfort shoe.
I usually wear and 11-1/2 wide. Since these shoes do not have width options, I wear a 12. It fits fine.

Gorgeous leather & color -
Besides the hideous Mephisto tag that cheapens the look of all their shoes, the Cap Vert's leather quality and color whispers pure class. With or without socks the smooth leather lining accepts your feet like these are high end slippers, and like slippers these have no arch support. Seem like they are sturdy enough to last, but even I can't imagine them lasting 3 times as long as excellent penny loafers that are 1/2 the price, such as HS Trasks. In fact for only $100 more you can buy the highest quality shoes made, genuine cordovan pennies. I have cordovan wing tips that are two decades old that wouldn't be much more in price but certainly would work. Too bad Ecco can't make a penny this stylish. They could eat this market up. Nice shoe but about $100 too much and not enough difference from other quality comfort pennies.

GREAT SHOE WITH A GREAT FLAW!
Very stylish with support to spare, this shoe is flawed only by the fact that it is entirely too tight around mid-shoe. There is simply no way to slip on this "slip-on". Still, once on the foot, it feels good and provides above average comfort and support. This is the third pair of Mephistos that I have purchased and the only one to be so tight. Also, the shoes were not shipped in a Mephisto box, leading me to believe they may have been returned from someone previously.

The Cap Vert loafers are at least my 3rd pair of Mephistos, the other two being lace-ups and extremely comfortable and appropriately basic in style. My kind of shoe. In semi-retirement I want slip-ons, decent looks and comfort. Above all comfort. My old, rubber soled LL Bean penny loafers have about had it and they don't carry a comparable product any longer. I wasn't looking to spend close to $300 as, being retired, that kind of expenditure will mean my wife doesn't eat for two weeks (but they don't have to be two weeks in a row). Having tried 3 other pair of less expensive penny loafers, these clearly are the most comfortable, with no leather softening, breaking-in necessary. How they could make such a nice shoe while nearly ruining a classic look is a trick known only to Mephisto, but since I'm no beaut, either, I'll let that pass. As for comfort, the big issue, they're great...yet, yet, they can be uncomfortable, actually hurt a bit, on the top of my arch, but not always and not in the same place. Odd. Other shoes I tried would annoy me with tightness, etc., but not with this particular defect, if you will. I think a little wear will cure the problem and I'll be able to wear these all day and not even know they're on my feet. Oh, the diarrhea brown color is ugly, too.

Only briefly does it feel like one has sold their soul to the devil to pay for these shoes. One soon realizes that a fine investment has been made. Without qualification, these are the most comfortable shoes I have ever purchased.

Are you kidding me?
Called Zappos at 1pm CST on Thursday and ordered these shoes. They arrived at 11am the next day. No shipping charge, no tax...just why would I deal with anyone else?
My local shoe store, which is also a great store, doesn't carry the black model in this shoe. They could have ordered if for me, 7-10 days....on the way out of the store the salesperson said "why don't you try Zappos"...
I did and I always will again....and these shoes are great. I own a pair in deep brown....excellent for being on my feet all day at trade shows and just lounging....

Great everyday shoes -
This is the second pair of Mephisto loafers I've bought for my husband. He got the first about five years ago, based on recommendations from my brother (who's been wearing more casual Mephistos for ages), under supervision from his mother. When it came time to get a replacement, he asked me if we could find the same ones. These shoes look very nice indeed for a casual loafer (he only gave it a 4 because it wasn't as elegant as a dress shoe) and are very, very comfortable--a big step up from the Topsiders he favors in terms of support (not just style). Yes, they are pricey, but he'll be wearing them for years. The value is there.

Tough to size -
I purchased one size and it was too big. I returned these for a smaller size. One of the second pair fit well and the other was way too small. There does not seem to be much relationship between stated size and actual size. I finally threw the second pair away after a few weeks because Mephisto would not take them back. Buy something else.

Remarks about Mephisto’s Cap Vert shoes -
I am a pharmacist who is on his feet for 12 to 14 hours a day. For the past 5 years, I have purchased and worn Mephisto’s Cap Vert shoes every day. I own 5 pairs at this time, 2 black, 2 burgundy, and 1 pair of tan. I can wear these shoes all day long and my feet never hurt, never feel fatigued. The cushioned sole provides a maximum of support for the arch and ball of the foot. Plus they look very smart and stylish, a very clean and traditional look. I do need however to issue a complaint. The quality of the shoe has always exceeded my expectations, however I purchased a black pair from a department store in November of 2005, and a portion of the lower stitching came loose on the front toe of the shoe and required my purchase of a new pair from Zappos. Again thank you for the opportunity to express my very positive opinion of the Mephisto shoes and my declaration that I will continue to wear them.

Excellent shoe. Size 10 m was perfect on the right but a little loose on the left. Comfortable for office, and I will probably buy a black pair for dressier wear.

Mephisto loafer -
I wore this shoe all over Ireland for 2 weeks without a break-in period and it was comfortable. However, I do suffer from plantar fasciitis and used an orthotic in the shoe which was very nicely accommodated by the shoe. All in all it's a great look and a comfortable fit not usually available in shoes which accommodate orthotics.

Excellent shoe, but couldn't find a pair that fit-
The first pair was too wide (left foot only) even though I'm normally a medium width, so I called Zappos and they sent me another pair (without charging my credit card!) that were a half-size smaller. Sadly, they didn't fit either. The shoes felt and looked great, and Zappos service was unbelievably wonderful, but I still don't have the shoes I wanted.

Cap Vert comfortable from first day-
Stunningly good service from Zapppos.com in delivering two pairs of Cap Verts (black and hazelnut). The Mephisto’s are solidly stitched from very soft leathers. Comfortable to wear at work while standing most of the day. A little more arch support would be nice. Timberland Waterborne is similar for half the dollars... has better arch support but doesn't feel as luxuriously cushy as the Cap Vert.

Best loafer quality and comfort.
Love the comfort and top-quality leather and construction, but order a half-size smaller than you normally would. I'm usually a 9 1/2 D, but the Mephisto 9 M fits perfectly with minimum slippage in the heel and still plenty of room in the toe. I found this sizing to be consistent with the Mephisto Abels, which I also bought.

These shoes arrived quickly and turned out to be as comfortable as any custom-fitted footware I've ever worn. They feel like bedroom slippers. I have ordered from Zappos previously and always have been completely satisfied. My recent order also included other shoes. The Allen Edmonds loafers were perfect as well.

Top notch penny loafer with boat shoe soles!
These are boat shoe (razor cut) sole and water-resistant leather, so can take abuse - yet look like a casual penny loafer, so they can be worn lots of places. They fit snug but not tight, with my 12 medium-wide foot, and feel very comfy.

The Cap Vert by Mephisto is an excellent shoe. I've never put on a more comfortable pair of shoes. As dress shoes (as I sometimes use them), they might look a little informal but they're so comfortable, I'll gladly make that minor concession.

Sized poorly -
This shoe felt a whole size bigger than rated both length and somewhat in width. I would go with other premium brands first, except for Allen Edmonds.
