This will have been my 6th pair of North Face GTX with the Boa system and you can say I'm a big fan! These are most likely the best brand of hiker/trail runners I've ever owned and the Hedgehog is no different, they wear like iron, and with the Boa you can dial in a fit regardless of what sock you chose to wear on any given day. Here's the key to the Boa system DO NOT crank the knob down until you lose feeling in your foot the laces are tiny wrapped steel cables and will tighten in excess and adds to the possibility of breakage. I've heard and read all the horror stories of breakage but in six pairs I've never had a breakage or anything close. I always order these in a full extra size as well, they fit smaller than competitor’s shoes I normally wear 13 and I order 14 and they fit like a champ. I really hope North Face does not stop using this Boa system the newer models have improved less binding eyelets from the older models where I'm sure some folks had some problems with breakage; it's a novel idea what can only improve as time go on. Also I hope they stick to non crazy colors and styling some of the other makers have resorted to lately there is a big difference between trail shoes and shoes you wear to a club, leave that market of footwear for others to provide.

Fit very well right out of the box, very light weight, and plenty of toe room. Sometimes the area around the ankle feels like it is rubbing but that has subsided after breaking it in. My only major complaint is that the right shoe did not have as much slack in the lacing system as the left shoe did, other than that, the lacing system is really unique and extremely simple to use, much faster to loosen and tighten than the Salomon XA Pro gtx that I also decided to try.

The Hedgehog GTX XCR® Boa® -
The shoe has a good look to it, the tread is strong and rugged like I wanted. The only 2 problems are getting the right adjustments and accidental release of the knob when brushed by rocks or debris.

After placing dozens of orders through Zappos, processing a few returns, and contacting customer service by phone a few times, one would think that my overwhelming love of you guys would wear off. But, it hasn't; it only gets more intense with every positive experience (which has been each and every Zappos experience I've had).
