Shoe Size: Felt true to size

Hard and not very comfy, but your mileage may vary.
I expect these would feel better after they've had a chance to conform to the foot, but I decided to return them right away. I ordered two sizes (39 and 40) and I fell in between the two. (I am an 8 or 8.5 in dress shoes/boots and 9 in sneakers.) The lacing allows for a snug midfoot fit, but the heel is way too wide for me, and there is no padding back there that could have made the fit more bearable. The leather is nice and these seem well made. They're kind of funny looking, but cute in a European cyclist/backpacker kind of way. I had high hopes because from the pictures they looked a lot like the shape of my feet -- wide at the top and narrowing at the heel -- rather than Keens, for example, which tend to be wide all around. If this describes you as well, I wish not to deter you, and that's why I didn't slam these in the star ratings. I would have given them more of a chance if a half-size were available.

A most comfortable shoe! No need to break in this shoe! It is lightweight, has a wide toe box, and the felt-type material around the top helps a narrow foot feel secure. The way the sole is engineered makes walking easy, especially on my back. Looks great with jeans and casual pants. My first Jill 02 (and my sixth Romika lace-up style shoe), it won't be my last.
