It's me again, the guy writing about the "konbu" version. Konbu, Congo, whatever! I'm now sitting on a pair each of the black and the Congo. I just can't decide now that I have them in the right size (1/2 up). Now that I've had some more time with them I've noticed the texture on the Congo shows when bent and looks rather attractive. The green seems a tad too dark but that makes that that much more versatile. The thing keeping me from deciding between the two colors is the material. The black is a nice pigskin like textured leather and has a soft sheen while the Congo is this shiny surfaced material that would be perfect for all this autumnal rain we're having (and for next spring, too). I've tried them with the thickest dang socks I could find in the Chicagoland area (Smartwool "expedition weight") and they still fit comfortably. I will say the laces seem a little too cheap, but I've noticed that from the dozen or so shoes I've tried through Zappos lately; this heavily-starched ropey fiber that you can tell would seem thin and unsubstantial without the starch. So it goes, so I've noticed with quality, this last decade and not specifically this brand, but all and for everything. That's why I appreciate Zappos' return policy which let's me cycle through all these shoes at no cost until I find a pair that presents itself as worthy of my hard-earned cash. Thank you, Zappos! Customer for life!

Kombu (konbu) version: These seem less detailed in person. The glossiness seems thicker and the implied subtle texture in the photos isn't actually there (they're smooth). As far as size in concerned, I couldn't even get these on (11.5). Try a 1/2 to a full size larger. I've tried other Cole Haans in both dress and sport shoes and these were definitely smaller than usual for the brand.

 | | I couldn't find a place to leave feedback, so I'll put it here. I want to thank you for your excellent service. I ordered football cleats for my son for an upcoming playoff game in a brand I've never bought before and they were too narrow. I called at 9:30 p.m. to exchange them for the brand I normally buy. The exchange arrived the NEXT DAY at no extra charge! That is the best service I've ever received from an internet company! As long as your customer service remains the same you have me as a customer for life! Thanks again! | | ~ Richard G., October 16 2009
