These are wonderful boots! I call them boots despite their lower cut because I use them for hiking around. I have moderately wide feet with very high arches and finding a good fitting boot is next to impossible. These represent a nice compromise, with a durable hiking sole but without the restrictive ankles. I bought both the 2E and 4E widths, and decided to keep the 4E's because they gave me a bit more room for the toes. I'm so glad to have finally found these! They work around town, and with gaiters on, I would feel comfortable tromping around in even the wettest weather. Very comfy.

This is the first time I\'ve placed an order with Zappos and I can guarantee you it won\'t be the last. I shopped for nearly two weeks at "real" stores prior to placing my order, and simply could not find what I was looking for. The inventory at Zappos is ginormous and the shoes were delivered in record time. Anybody who is serious about buying quality shoes needs to know about this site. Thank you Zappos.

Excellent shoes and fast service from Zappos. The shoes are wide enough to accommodate my orthotics, and the sole is somewhat stiffer than average, which I particularly appreciate, since I often walk on gravel over a hard surface. The shoes have a waterproof, breathable sock liner (Gore-Tex, I think) and take external waterproofing without staining. Highly recommended.

Great shoes. This is the second year I\'m buying this shoe for the winter months. This is a sturdy shoe with a good fit. I\'m a 4-E and as with all New Balance shoes they work for me.

Look good, very durable, pretty nice shoes. I have a huge bunion on my foot so it hurts after extended wear (even at 4E) but the other foot feels great all day. I guess if you have a near-freakishly wide foot with a medical problem, they might not be for you. For the rest of you, I can highly recommend this shoe.

Being a lifelong New Balance fan, I really must admit these shoes are the absolute worst pair of New Balance shoes I have ever owned. I have had these for 6 months and wear these 5 times a week for work and each passing month they have become more and more uncomfortable where they are to the point I must throw them away. Not from being worn out too fast, but for bad design and construction. The double EE is NOT a double EE but more like a 4E, thus giving too much room for my feet to swim about causing too much friction and thus too much PAIN. The laces do not stay tied and they are MUCH too long and they must be double tied and even then, they slip to a degree that I must retie them during the day. Why can\'t a shoe manufacturer put decent shoe laces on their shoes in this day and age? Don\'t they do feasibilty studies for their products anymore?\r\n\r\nMy strongest complaint is that the shape of the foot bed is not anatomically correct. There is absolutely NO arch support and my feet ache after an hour of wear on concrete and my metatarsals ache with agony.\r\n\r\nAlso, I will never buy another shoe that does not give me an upper 6th eyelet or clasp to tighten shoes effectively at the upper most point on my feet. Without this upper clasp or 6th eyelet, they are useless for me. Sorry, I wish I could get my money back since they were so expensive, but ultimately not worth it for me at all and a bad mistake on my part for listening to the \'great reviews\' here. I hope you have better luck with your pair than I did.

Finally after years of searching for a replacement for my old worn out 964\'s I found the 955\'s. I wear a 4E and these fit so much better than all of the other models NB made that were supposed to fit like the 964. Very comfortable with lots of support from day one. No break in. \r\n\r\nMy only complaint is from my wife who is also searching for a 964 replacement in narrow, and these shoes for some reason don\'t come in women\'s narrow.
Other brands recommended by reviewer: Merrell now has a wide that fits like a wide should.

I guess I\\\\\\\'m one of the lucky ones who\\\\\\\'s never had to return a pair of shoes for exchange, but perhaps that\\\\\\\'s because Zappos offers widths EE and larger on most shoes that I order. My local shoe dealer doesn\\\\\\\'t stock EE as a rule, so he has to special order, which means a week\\\\\\\'s waiting or more. With Zappos I almost aways get my shoes in 24 hours. My preferred brands are New Balance and HiTech.\\\\r\\\\n\\\\r\\\\n

Very comfortable in both an urban and trail setting. The only issue I had, for the first several weeks, is that the material for the ties is slippery. Even double knotted, they tended to come undone easily.

Great hiking shoe that performs well and fits great. I have bad feet and NB always performs well, these are better than most and they are waterproof, and I never feel sharp rocks and get traction on sharp inclines.

I have always been a skeptic when it comes to online shopping. I called several times before I actually committed to the purchase of these shoes. The staff at Zappos was very cordial and patient with my questions, great job gang! Shipping was prompt, and free, I will not hesitate to buy another pair of shoes from Zappos. As for the shoes, they are nothing short of fantastic! Size was dead on, comfort beyond belief. Exceeded my every expectation.

NB MW955 -
Nice shoe. True to size. Available in EE. Lighter than expected. More flexible than expected. GORE-TEX. Keeping for use as casual work shoe in sloppy weather, but not suitable for rocky trails or serious hiking. For similar money consider a Merrell GORE-TEX or Vasque - much sturdier.

I work in Facilities Maintenance and ordered these shoes for work shoes. These shoes are not as rugged as they look. The rubber over the toes is a feature I usually like for keeping the toe of the shoe from getting scuffed up when kneeling, but the rubber is too soft. I didn't like how the GORE-TEX on the top of the tongue looked. This is a lightweight shoe, more like a tennis shoe w/o cushion in the sole/heel. It looks and feels like a tennis shoe, but feels like a work shoe when walking. If you like the style of this shoe, I suggest the Skechers Energy. It's more rugged, comfortable right out of the box, is much better looking, and is cheaper. For the New Balance name and its price I expected a whole lot more.

Hard to fit, hard to please -
I tried at least 4 other pairs of New Balance before this one, none were true to size (what's up with THAT NB??) or had features that made them unusable for me (the clear walking tread on the new walker is too slick to wear on a concrete warehouse floor) or those silly plastic eyelets that break out after a month of wear. The 955 fits well. I am marking a 1/2 size larger than marked, but it would be closer to 1/4 size larger, because they are still a bit too large in the 12.5, but the 12 didn't fit at all.
One other thing, don't try to wear dry socks with this shoe, the moisture gets between the liner and sock and makes a squishy noise.

Very Nice Shoe, But...
This is a very beautiful, well made shoe but the cushioning is non-existent! No exaggeration, I even tried using some pricey insoles and while it helped it was still very hard and unforgiving.
Nice new design, but New Balance is going to have to reformulate these soles...

I called yesterday to exchange sneakers for a larger size, and late last night ordered some girly shoes, and this morning BOTH the sneakers and the shoes were at my door! I am stunned! Today I called a different place to order a specialty item (after checking Zappos site for something similar first, of course) and there is just no comparison whatsoever. Now I must wait at least a week for my order from this other place, and on top of that, pay ten bucks shipping! See, I am spoiled by Zappos spectacular customer service. Thank you so much!
