My son is 5 and wanted a pair of Velcro shoes. We were not in love with any of the sneaker offerings and were also looking for a brown shoe that could be worn with jeans and casual dress pants. I love my Keen Austins and this kids pair killed 2 birds with one stone. He can get them on and off by himself (when the mood strikes him, he's 5 after all). The Velcro is easy to adjust and holds tight leaving a securely fastened shoe on his feet. Each pair of shoes is "faster" than the pair it replaced and these do not disappoint in traction and durability. The rounded rubber toe helps to protect the top side of the shoe for when kids are crawling around on the ground. (My son has destroyed the stitching on the toes of other shoes before the treads even started to show signs of wear.)

My son absolutely loves these shoes. And so do I! He is 3. They are easy on, easy off. He does them completely by himself. They are rugged and look great even after all of the rough play that they get. And they look great for dressier occasions, too. We've only had them for about 2 months, but I would say that based upon our experience so far, they are very well made. We sized up because my experience with Keens has been that they run small. The hard rubber toe (which helps to keep the shoes looking nice) does make it a little hard to make sure that you have the correct sizing.

The best little boy shoes. Handsome, indestructible, easy on and off, and super comfortable for my 2.5 year old. He will grow out of these before they even show any wear. Keen remain my favorite shoes.

OK, this is the cutest, roughest, toughest, \'school\' shoe our 3 year old could dream up! It\'s easy enough for him to put on all by himself and such great colors (black olive w/ orange accents) for his fall wardrobe. We went up a half size, but with socks and the nice padded collar, it fits great. This was a natural progression from a summer spent in Keen sandals AND his uncle even has the \'big man\' version of Austin!
Other brands recommended by reviewer: Our boys also wear Vincent, Converse and Nike shoes.

My little guy loves these shoes. He tried them on and ran around the house in them telling me how much he liked them. They are great, sturdy shoes for our wet winters in Portland. He can get them off easily, still learning to put them on. The velcro and elastic laces makes it simple. They do get stinky without socks (just like his sandals), but that is easily remedied. I'd definitely buy these again.

I ordered these in the black/olive for my son who has wide feet. He normally wears an 11 1/2 wide, but as Keens run small I ordered a 13, turns out they are too large, but as fast as his feet are growing I know they will fit soon. They can go from jeans and a sweatshirt at the park to khakis and a dress shirt for church. I love that the tongue velcros to the velcro strap helping to keep the tongue in place. I debated sending these back due to the size, but decided to keep them since they are the only shoe I found with the velcro closure and versatility I was loooking for, without costing me a small fortune. Plus they are Keens so I know they will wear well.

These shoes are great. My son loves being able to put them on by himself. Keens tend to run a bit small, so I ordered a 12 and he wears an 11 1/2 in other brands. He also has a wide foot and these fit great!

These are great shoes from a great company. My whole family wears keens, and I especially love them for my extra wide footed preschool son. He can easily put them on by himself, and I like that they are both practical and cool looking.
