I bought these for my husband after listening to him complaining about his feet hurting while traveling in Europe. He had purchased a pair of $140 walking shoes with a great reputation, but they just did not feel good when during extensive traveling and walking. He had tried on the Mephisto Storm and liked it, but just didn't feel he could justify the price. They arrived a day after I ordered them (thank you, Zappos) and he loved them. We just returned from a week in The Netherlands and all he could say is how great his feet felt and how glad he was that I had ordered them for him. He is a frugal guy and he is so excited that Mephisto has a reconditioning program. He has also started wearing them when he is running errands, so I know he really likes them!

Very comfortable all around overall use shoes. Not good for serious or fast paced walkers, but good for strolling. Maybe that is why they are so popular with the older set, or maybe that is the only group that can afford such an expensive sneaker! Basically, a traditional, no style well made sneaker that costs double any other.

Mephisto makes several great shoes, but these are definitely the most comfortable. I purchased these for my trip to Europe this year and they were wonderful to wear. They are worth the extra cost. Recommend that you try them on to insure that the size is correct a size, they tend to be a half size larger than other shoes of the same size.

These shoes are great! The top eyelet tore out of my first pair in the first week, but Zappos replaced them in a blink of an eye. I'm not completely sure, but I believe the original pair was made in Portugal and my current pair was made in France. Perhaps the country of origin does affect the quality? Anyhow, this is my third pair of Mephistos and they are the best shoes for my feet. I ordered a half size smaller in the Sstorm and that suits me fine.

Wore them for a few hours around the house... The toe area is huge... I am a "D" width and the shoes were definitely large in the toe box, right below the lowest lace area. When I walked the crease cut into the top of my toes, as there was just too much leather bunched up. Great construction, good looking and comfortable... I'm hoping to exchange for another pair and hope they don't bind like this pair does.

First of all, the shipping from Zappos was like "greased lightning" and it was free! This is my second pair of Mephisto Storm's. My first pair (same color) in the camel rainbuck are like brand new. I lucked out with this pair as these were on sale. I absolutely love this shoe, and a 9.5 fits perfect. I normally wear a 10 but Mephisto's run a bit large so keep that in mind. The materials are superb, better than any shoes I have owned including Ecco's which are good shoes but after you wear this shoe it just seems better than my other walkers, casual shoes. Don't expect them to feel ultra cushy because they are cushioned but not too much so that your feet are not properly supported. Great shoe and I love this camel rainbuck color. I wear them for casual use. When I walk for exercise I go with a gym type walking shoe.

Worth the expense. A very comfortable shoe. I usually buy a size 12 - 11.5 fits great. An excellent shoe for street walking and modest hiking.

Besides being super comfortable, there was plenty of room to insert my orthotic insole under the regular insole.

Mephisto shoes are the best. I have a great deal of trouble finding shoes that do not hurt my feet. I found my first pair in a shoe store in Seattle when I was touring and my feet were killing me. The Mephistos saved that trip. I wear them to work EVERY day, no foot pain at the end of the day. Not a gorgeous shoe, but please do not change them.

Excellent walking shoes -
Due to many surgeries in my feet, walking is limited and difficult; choosing shoes for me doesn't come easy. But this particular style of shoes offers me great arch support. I really like them!

Foot protection -
These may be not be the most sexy-looking shoe what with the rounded front, but they are comfy: no pinching on the laces, nice roominess up front for toe-wiggling, cushy sole, cushy top, not too much lift off the back...a little break-in for my right ankle: just bend the side in and out for a bit. Don't know how light they are in hot weather, but feet feel protected. A little sleeker at the front and they would be perfect.

Mephisto Storm review by Mephisto/Ecco wearer.
I purchased the Storm to replace some black Finn Comforts. Although my feet never hurt in the Finn's my knees and back did. They just did not have enough shock absorption for me walking on tile all day. I wear Ecco Track II Lows all the time because my knees and back like them. But it is getting warm outside and the Tracks are too hot. They do not have a ton of support though so my heel spurs can act up sometimes when wearing those but it is rare. I wore the Mephisto Match every day for about two years and wore the soles flat. I did not know I could resole them so I threw them out. So I was going to get another pair of the Match style but read one reviewers statement that the storm had a better arch. I have worn them for 2 days and would have to agree that the storm does have better arch support than the match for my foot. The Storms forefoot area is not as cushioned as the Match but the little stronger arch support makes up for it. This is a very well made shoe and should last someone many years of wear.

Good, but buy a full size smaller!
I figured that these would run a little big, so I got a half-size smaller than I would in American shoes. Well, they were quite a bit too big and my feet flopped around in them! They're reasonably comfy, but they're not as cushy as they appear. I like the Match better. Also, the arch support is practically non-existent, so be prepared to add some custom orthotics or insoles.

Superb fit and comfort right out of the box and true to previous reviews, excellent arch support. The all black version is suitable for uniforms and dress attire. Highly recommended.

Great Shoe -
I have been wearing the Match for years. I always felt that if I were comfortable with that shoe, why change. However, this shoe lighter and even more comfortable than what I was used to. It has the airbag heel and the quick lace. It is sporty looking and yet very comfortable.

If you have problems with yours feet...
Before Mephisto's Storm I was sure, that top-quality sport footwear from Adidas, Reebok, etc. is the best for peoples with feet problems due to great amount of modern technologies.
Very good quality with special attention to feet care.

Urban sneaker: Good at what it does -
The Storm is accurately called an urban sneaker. Very comfortable for padding around town, with a sole that will soften the pavement pretty well. These are my shoes of choice for casual, light duty, short duration, around-town ventures. They are a bit too squishy for touring, travel, rough ground, or long walks. They also scuff very easily. For my taste, they also look a little clunky. Ecco Freewalkers are not as soft-comfy and not as padded, but I can wear them comfortably for longer periods, and I think they look better. My Allen Edmonds Day Trippers are built better and look much better, but their soles are a little narrow. Ecco Tracks are still my go-to shoes for travel or rough pavement or long hauls. I like the Mephisto Storm, and they are a good urban sneaker, but the price is way beyond the value of the shoe.

I suffered foot injuries and the only shoe that helped healing are Mephistos! They are by far the most comfortable shoe made.

The Shoes that live up to its name.
I am on my feet ten hours or more a day for six days a week because I manage two gas stations; therefore having the most comfortable shoes is critical. I have been on a quest to find the best walking shoes for a few years now, I have tried: Nike, Michael Toschi, Kenneth Cole, Adidas, Lugs, and Havana Joes, but none matched the comfort of Mephisto's Storm. The shoes maker billed these shoes as the best walking shoes, and let me tell you, they are absolutely correct. Also, the service and selection from Zappos are as good as you can get.

Break in longer than other Mephistos -
I love the Mephisto Match. I was looking for another style, and I got this on sale so I saved a fair amount of money. Overall I like them a lot, but it took a number of wearings before the edge under my ankle softened up enough to no longer be uncomfortable. Great support otherwise. I also don't care for the tan color so much, but like I said it was on sale.

The Abel is probably the best shoe ever made. It offers incredible support in the arch and instep. Due to the Goodyear welt along side of the shoe, you can stand straighter without pronation. The toe box is extra wide and roomy. The shoe fits as well as a glove. My podiatrist was greatly impressed with the perfect way the shoe cradles the foot. I also purchased a pair of "Storm" at the same time. They are a sportier shoe with a bit of a wider toe. However; they just don't fit as well.

I'll never buy another brand of shoes -
I've considered buying Mephistos for several years and just couldn't get past the price, but now that I have tried them, I'll never buy anything else. I've had foot problems that interfered with walking and these shoes have me looking forward to taking long walks.

He's retiring on the 30th after 32 years with UPS (never took a sick day, never missed work, and never had an accident or injury.
