These shoes are pretty hot. They look fantastic, and they don't feel as flat and insubstantial as some throwback running shoes can be. Plus as a large footed man, I had no complaints width-wise, which is usually my biggest problem.

These shoes are cool, but offer no support at all. They are extremely flat on the bottom and the insole is glued into the shoe, so you're stuck with it. I have the navy pair and they are some of my favorites. I also have the all black pair which are cool, but I find myself never wearing them. Overall they are comfortable for everyday wear, not running or anything. Run pretty true to size; can be snug, but after a week or so of wearing they'll fit fine. I only say this because I wear a 13 and I have a wide foot.

The U420 is light and comfortable. New Balance has the reputation for making a good quality shoe. This shoe lives up to the standard. Great for getting from class to class and doubles as a fair running shoe.

I love the look and they are extremely lightweight, although I have to agree with others that they are a tad cheap on the materials. For instance the tongue is foam stitched to nylon with no side seam. Also, I would invest in insoles with arch support. These things are flat and your feet will get sore if walking in them all day. Of course, I bought them for the retro look.

I ordered these sneakers for my son. He saw them on Zappos and wanted to order them. We were very happy with the service, timely delivery of the product and the product itself. The sneaker ran true to size. He said they were comfortable.

I'm not sure if it shows individual stars, but I'd say 3 for comfort, 5 for style. This is a nice looking shoe, but it's not the way to go if you're thinking of athletics. The insoles are thin, and there isn't any arch support. Also, these shoes don't "breathe" the way a pair of running shoes does. That being said, I put in some comfy insoles,(which was actually a pain because the crappy insoles it comes with are glued in) and I'm very happy with these shoes now. Great for an out-and-about shoe.

They are great shoes! I have never owned New Balance shoes before, but they are nice and light, as well as attractive.

Cool shoe, but needs support -
I picked up the blue pair of New Balance Classic's. They go great with jeans and I intended on using the on my commutes. Pros: Good looking shoe. Great color (not like most shoes today). Comfortable feel around the foot. Cons: The support is weak. Very flat sole. I purchased a set of arch support inserts that made all the difference.

Buyer beware -
Bought the shoes for the looks, but they might be the least comfortable shoes I have ever purchased. They are moderately light weight, but the new insoles I had to buy for them made them heavier.
The shoe is made from very cheap materials, looks like it cost them about $5 at a craft store to make it.

Really Fun Really Fine -
Ok I don't write product reviews, but I really like this shoe. I have terrible feet, I run around like mad in my job, and I don't like overly fem stuff. This is the shoe for me. I haven't had a sneaker type shoe for decades and I love this shoe to pieces. And if you hate it, return it. I'm going to reorder it in the Teal so I have two. Fit seems good. I'm surprised to find that New B does ok with size & comfort, since I've been a euro-shoe snob for years. Enjoy!

Looking for Comfort???
These shoes are great especially with jeans. They're "slimming" if you can say that about shoes. The size 9 I bought fit perfectly, but my feet look smaller than usual! My only negative is that the insole provides absolutely no arch support. This wasn't a problem for me since I usually switch out insoles for more supportive ones I bought in Lady Foot Locker. Once I did that these shoes were perfect. I can wear them all day without any foot aches or pains.

Great color, comfortable shoe -
Dark teal is my favorite color, so once I saw this shoe, I ordered it. I'm female, and my shoes range from 9 to 10 (in women's sizes). I ordered this shoe in a 7.5 and an 8 (men's). The 7.5 looked small and fit okay, though snug. After lots of comparison, I kept the size 8 pair, which felt better in the width, and I can wear any sock comfortably.

Retro NB's -
Great shoes! Slightly on the narrow side but very comfortable out of the box. Would never want to actually run in them however. I wear them for 12 hour nursing shifts in the ER and never feel the need for another shoe.

420's, are not 574's...
As a collector of NB's and a huge 574 fan, my only complaint about the 420's is that you can't wear a short sock with them, or they dig into the back of your foot. If you wear socks above the ankle, they are comfortable.

Excellent casual sneaker.
This retro New Balance sneaker is incredibly slick looking and pretty comfortable. I wear a 12.5 New Balance sneaker usually, but the U420 doesn't come in half sizes after 11.5, so I ordered a size 13. The size 13 fits well due to the narrow toe box of this sneaker, but I think a 12.5 would have been adequate. I have high arches, and the New Balance U420 offers moderate arch support at best. I ripped the non-removable liners out and replaced them with a pair of Superfeet Orange insoles and I could not be happier with the support. I would not attempt to run or exercise in these sneakers, but they are fantastic for casual use and have a very slim profile that doesn't look bulky with straight leg jeans. Zappos service was amazing, I ordered these sneakers around 3 p.m. and they were at my doorstep the following afternoon. I highly recommend this cool sneaker and Zappos!

I would like to start off by saying: Zappos.com is amazing. My first order with Zappos.com wasn't that long ago. On one of my orders, Zappos was so amazing to give me a special priority in upgrading my shipping date to the next day I placed my order. What other place does that? Not only did they do that, they always email you right away when you place an order. Other websites take so long, you worry if they even got the order. And, in Zappos website, it's so helpful. When looking at an item, it gives all the information you need. Your size, your color, and price range you are willing to spend. AND if the item is sold out, they email you once the item is back in stock. Come on! What other website does all of this! None! When I receive my shipment(s) at home, the packaging is so cute, neat.
