The shoes are sturdy, and did solve some soreness in both hips. The shoes are very attractive and I will buy some more in the next month--but I\'ll buy a size 9 rather than an 8 1/2.\r\n\r\nI highly recommend these shoes.

I bought a pair of Merrell Intercept shoes for my husband for our trip to Italy because they were the #1 walking shoe listed on mostcomfortableshoes.com and the reviews on Zappos.com were positive. He wore them a week before the trip to get used to them; walking shoes have a different feel than typical athletic shoes. He didn't get blisters and the shoe breathed well. He did say it took a few days for his foot to "settle in" to the soles. His left foot is half a size smaller than this right, so he always buys to fit the bigger foot (size 13), but he had no problems with the fit on the smaller foot; the laces are strong and tight. This was the only pair of shoes he took to Italy. The shoes worked well with our daily attire and okay with his nice khakis for dinner. He never complained of hurting feet, but at the end of 8 hours of sightseeing in Rome, we were tired! The shoes were a little slippery on wet cobblestones, but they were always sturdy. He continues to wear the Merrells as his daily casual work shoes. We opted for the free shipping, and Zappos.com delivered our order in the promised 5-7 business days.

I am happy with the Merrell Intercept. Sturdy,supprtive substantial shoe for general off sidewalk hiking. More than you need for a street shoe. Order one size larger than you shoe size. It took me two returns before I got it right. Goin up a half size did not work.\r\nGreat service from Zappos on the the returns and sending me a new size.

Great shoe, but be careful.
Best shoe I ever wore, but they run so small, I had to get a full size larger just to get a good fit.

I got these because some website said these were the best walking shoes for 2009. Right out of the box, they were very comfortable. Lots of support. I wear them every day and also on hikes.

Great shoes, true to width and outstanding feel. The inner sole feels a bit awkward but essentially just molds to your foot and provides great support. They are by far a great buy, great traction and a great price!

Excellent support from this shoe, form fitting which gives you greater stability than other brands of athletic shoes! Shoe initailly is slightly snug in width but will loosen slightly. I wear them all day and my feet feel great! Highly recommended!

Fit was true and broke in quickly on nightly walk of a mile or two the first week. Then trekked with good support and comfort throughout GmbH for over a week. In the hills, on the trail in the city...miles and miles without complaint. Great purchase.

The shoes are Merrells and they don't quite live up to what I am used to for my Merrells. I usually get 1 pair every year, but recently I waited 2 years and now only have this 1 pair going. They are good, just not great. 4 stars across the board, but I expect more from them. I always get Merrells when forced to buy online because I know they will fit me correctly. Size 14 can be a problem when shopping in local stores.

I love these shoes. I bought the brown ones first for graduate school. I wore them every single day. I bought the black pair for my trip to Dubai. The black pair plus a pair of Merrell flip-flops allowed me to trek the sandy desert with comfort and ease. These shoes have literally been around the world. My first ever pair of Merrell sandals endured my hiking adventure to Guatemala and Belize. These are amazing shoes with amazing comfort and style. I refuse to wear any other shoe. And I swear that Zappos has a store on my street because how else can you deliver a shoe in less than 24 hours? From 9pm-1pm the next day??? I love these shoes and refuse to settle for less than Zappos powered by service.

Not one to really care about exactly what I put on my feet'; I usually go with whatever's in the local shoe store. Lately I have had to return to a profession that is hard on the feet. (Retail at one of those Home Improvement Warehouses, not the orange one.) We haul tail around the concrete floors for our customers resulting in some pretty sore feet. There is this one guy that just cruises through the day, every day. He is a little older than myself, not that means too much these days, but still.... One day while in the breakroom I asked him his secret. After going over all the twigs and berries, the multiple positions he finds himself every morning before dawn, the modern aspects of his hippie lifestyle, he finally got around to footwear. Merrells are all he wore, he also told me about the new shoe he heard was coming out; had a big "M" on it. Told me I might be able to find them on Zappos.com. The Intercept, with the "M". And sure enough, the right price at Zappos.com. (Sound like a commercial, huh?) When they came in, I can remember thinking, "There is no way something as light as these are going to be comfortable."I was so wrong! I cruise now through the work day and on into the evening. Light, breathable, durable. I read the other reviews, both positive and negative. Believe in the positive! I can only guess that these nay-sayers had not had their weekly pedicure for troll-like feet, or just had a bad day. Jack, you rock ! Zappos.com, you guys rock! Merrell, an awesome shoe! Yeah: You guys rock!

A great shoe - very happy with my purchase -
I bought this shoe for hiking and walking. This shoe was perfect the moment I unpacked it. Others have said the shoes are sized too small, but I took a chance and ordered my usual 11 and they fit like a glove. The built-in pad that your foot rests on has the best arch support I have ever found in a shoe. After a moment or two of wearing the shoe, the pad takes on the shape of your foot and then the shoe feels like it was custom made for you. I bought this shoe (Gunsmoke color) because the styling caught my eye. They are colorful and it is interesting the way the lines flow in contours. I especially like the M that they incorporated into the styling. When I put them on the first time, I loved the way they looked in person even more than how they looked on the computer. I have walked quite a distance in the summer heat with these shoes and have found they breathe and keep my feet cool. This a terrific shoe and I think well worth the price. I think this is the first shoe from Merrell I have ever bought. The next time I need a hiking/outdoor shoe, I will start with Merrell.

Sizing wrong -
I am, and have always been a size 11.5. This is the only shoe I've ever had where my toes are touching the end of the shoe! Plus it has some strange manufacturing defect that makes them look like old man slippers b/c the sides of the shoe are so overstuffed that they look ridiculous to me. I would return these if I had realized in time.

Had to return orginally shipped size 11.5 for 12, a half size larger than I normally wear. Zappos return service was excellent as always. Merrell Intercepts are very comfortable and suit my needs for light outdoor recreational activities. Haven't had them long enough to judge durability but they appear well made and excellent quality. The Merrell style is distinctive and frequently gets comments from other fellow Merrell owners.

Really happy with the look, fit and comfort. Nice all around shoe. The mesh material on the sides are a little easy to snag and rip. (It's a soft material) After a month the mesh has started to slightly come apart at the seams. I'm extremely rough on shoes though. If you keep it simple these are a solid choice for the price.

Cool looking shoe, trusted brand, enough to convert my online purchase, but beware a flimsy in-step. Sure as pointed out in other reviews, there is arch support (from underneath). However, the entire instep side of the shoe is made of thin, flimsy suede and lacks sufficient support, resulting in a wobbly unstable step. Didn’t even bother taking them for a test walk. Exchanged them for my trusty Keen Voyageur model.

Magnificent Merrell -
I've been wearing Merrells for a few years now and I'll typically fit right with a 7.5, but lately, I can't get into anything unless it's a 8.5. Are my feet still growing? Has Merrell changed the template of their sizing? Regardless, this shoe is extremely comfortable, supporting the foot in just the right points and places needed for comfort and performance. I've only had them for a few days, but break in was a non-issue. Aggressive tread is excellent for handling any terrain. Styling and design is very cool - shoes that make people look down at you. Highly recommended for summer activities and chillin' out.

These are the best shoes I've ever owned. Superb comfort and support. I have a high arch and these shoes match my foot really well. I've had a very tough time over the years trying to maintain having an excellent quality shoe that fits me right. This Merrell shoe has restored my confidence.

I really wanted to like this shoe. I have other Merrells and like the brand. I’m looking for some light weight, but sturdy hiking and walking shoes and these looked perfect in the photo. Unfortunately they just don’t fit. For starters, I had to re-order a full size larger, but even after getting those (quickly thanks to Zappos’ great service), I found them too narrow at the toes and the arch support uncomfortably high. Very out of character for the other Merrell shoes I have. Still like Merrell and I’m trying other styles, but this shoe is limited to those it will fit… and that isn’t me.

I’ve been waiting for a pair of Merrells that I could stand to wear styles wise; most have color schemes or shapes I don’t like. The Intercept in smooth black looked great online and even better in person. I picked these up as I will be attending a trade show next weak, i.e. lots of walking and standing. This sneaker/hiker is easily the most comfortable shoe out of the box I have ever tried. I wear a 10 and that’s what I ordered, perfect fit.
