I loved these boots. They were simple and elegant and I only wore them 3 times before they started to fall apart. The bottom of the boot, say if you were to stub your toe, was coming apart. The black sole separated from the second layer. I could have super glued them, but since I paid this much, Frye should spend a little more time into craftsmanship to avoid these things. The original campus boot is made much better. The Maxine is just so much more feminine. The black dye on the heel and outer edge of boot also washed off within one use. I live in Washington, rains. Again, not impressed with the quality. Zappos on the other hand is awesome! They will accept returns with no hassle and I can give it another try with a different Frye boot.

Stiff, uncomfortable, too loose in the heel. I feel that these boots are made of an inferior grade of hide. I ordered them in two colors, gaucho and dark brown, and the one was stiffer than the other. The gaucho felt like cardboard against my legs; the dark brown felt like sheet metal. Now I understand that Frye leather boots need to be broken in, but I've seen the same boots in stores in New York City, and the hide was considerably softer. (They just don't stock them in my large size, women's 11, which is why I ordered from Zappos.) Finally, as several other reviewers have mentioned, they are ridiculously wide in the heel. These boots just didn't feel that well made overall, and I couldn't imagine they'd ever be comfortable. So my search for a sturdy yet attractive leather boot continues.

Slippy, slidey, stiff heel area, too big all the way around. I really like the look, but may try the next size down and hope that works. Would prefer the Gaucho over the Black also. Will have to send back and exchange.

High quality, but did not like the style. First of all, I love Frye boots! I was searching for a mid calf standard boot. I bought these in black. So in a way, I got what I was searching for. But these boots were so plain and I felt that they resembled what a policeman would wear; remember that show 'Chips'? So I returned them as I needed something with a little more pizazz. The leather was extremely good quality and the boots fit true to size and were not too big. I could easily wear these with jeans tucked in with no struggle getting them on or off. Great boot, but overall, just not for me.

I own about every color of the Campus 14L boots and I wanted to try the Maxine for a change. I am a size 8 in the Campus 14L and they fit exactly how they should (I do not wear socks). I ordered the Maxine in 8 and this boot fits much more snug and even a little smaller than the 14L. I just called and the 8.5 is on the way so I'm hoping that size fits better. If not, I will take the size 8 to the local boot man and have the toe area stretched. It is a very simple process and costs under $5. Any of you can do that, you can even have the calf area stretched if needed. Generally, if wanted, you can stretch the boot one full size.

I bought these boots in Cognac and they're totally gorgeous. My only problem is that the toe area is small and my big toe gets smashed by the top of the boot. It starts feeling uncomfortable after a couple hours. I guess I have fat toes or something. I almost sent them back, since I wasn't sure I could spend this much money on something that wasn't perfect, but in the end they were too pretty to return.

Love it but disappointed - I'm disappointed because the calf size is too small. My calf size fits the boot, but if I wanted to tuck it into my jeans, I wouldn't be able to. I also noticed the heel slippage and could imagine blisters. Really bummed. I'm debating on whether or not I should wait and see if I can stretch it out, but I have to decide this soon. I either have to return the shoe or keep it and work around the problems. Both options suck.

Best boots ever. I\'m so glad Frye decided to make a low-heeled version of the Campus boot!! I have these in wine, and they go with everything. The calves are pretty roomy, so they\'re perfect for wearing with jeans tucked in. They did require a little break-in time, but now they are pure heaven. I hope they last forever.

I bought my first pair of Frye boots in 1974 and happily wore them until they wore out. Now, 35 years later, I bought a second pair. I love them just as much as the first pair. They have a timeless, classic styling and are the finely crafted. Every other boot that I have looked at is cheap by comparison. As far as sizing goes, I have a narrow AA foot. The standard width works with a heavy weight sock. For me, they run 1/2 size smaller than I normally wear. What are you waiting for? Buy a pair of Frye Boots today. You will not be sorry.

Amazing!!
I love these boots so much! They were a little stiff when I first got them so I used saddle soap to soften them (saddle soap doesn't darken the color like mink oil does) and I haven't taken them off since I opened the box 3 weeks ago (it’s 85 degrees today and they look perfect with my sundress). I was worried that I would need to get them stretched to fit my muscular calves but they are just perfect and I can fit my jeans in no problem. Also true to size and fit my wide feet perfectly. Less than 2-day shipping on standard because Zappos rocks!

Love My New Frye's -
Zappos does a great job of getting your order to you quickly, I did, however, get lost in the UPS system, but not Zappos fault! I was a little frustrated that my color options were limited by the size not being available. Normally I vary between a 6.5 and 7, but ordered a size 6.5 as that was the only size available in the Cognac Antic at the time. I would have ordered the 7 just to be certain they would fit with socks, but the 6.5 fits fine. I have a wide foot, so I was leery, but it turned out fine. They look great with jeans or skirts, dressy or casual...Best purchase I’ve made in a LONG time.

Great boots!
I ordered these boots in a 7 and they are a solid 1/2 size too large. I am waiting for the 6 1/2 to arrive. Frye is the best boot maker in the USA. These boots are very classic, but also very trendy right now... cute with shorts, a skirt, in the summer or the winter. You cannot go wrong with these!!!

Lacking in comfort -
Before purchasing these boots, I read and re-read all the reviews on this site. From the other reviews, it seemed that Frye boots ran about 1/2 size big so I ordered according to that, but when I got them, they were very snug so I returned them and ordered my usual size, a size 8. With this size I find my heels slip out so I put an orthotic in that I purchased at a drug store. Although it helps, I just don’t have the comfort that I had hoped for with this boot. I continue to get rubbing on my feet from my heels lifting out, so it’s rather disappointing. I decided to keep the boots and just live with that, knowing I will never be able to do any significant walking in them. On the positive side, they are certainly an attractive and well made boot!

Worth the splurge -
I'm originally from Austin, TX and am not a stranger to spending a lot of money on boots and I am also very, VERY picky about my boots. I wear an 8-8.5 in most shoes (Puma, Steve Madden, MIA), so I originally ordered these in an 8.5. My feet sloshed around horribly in them. So, I returned them for a full size smaller (7.5). I wear a slightly thicker sock (thin hiking-type sock, as opposed to a cotton sports sock) and it fits like a dream. The toe box is snug, without being tight, and there is a slight amount of heel-slip that SHOULD go away once the sole breaks in and the heel can mold to my foot. These look great in or out of jeans or with a skirt. And I know with the quality of the leather uppers and craftsmanship of the sole, these will last a long, long time.

These boots are super boring. I love another pair of Frye boots that I own, but these are just bland and not really worth the investment even if you got a sassy color. Also, a few comments mention the sizing... I ordered my true size because my other Frye boots run true to size... They fit fine, but have a really wide heel that I slipped out of with every step... I ended up returning them.

Best boots!
These are my favorite boots I own. I wear them all the time; casually with skinny jeans or dressed-up with skirts and dresses. They are very well made and I think may last forever. I would order a half size up as they run a bit small and are very narrow. They rub a little until you break them in, but they look even better the more they are worn. A very good investment.

I wasn't sure I was ready for such an investment in shoes, but friends recommended Frye and I knew I loved using Zappos, so I went for it. I am glad I did. The boots are really comfortable, cute, and look great inside or outside jeans. I get many compliments each time I wear them.

My new favorite boot!
I waited and waited to get a pair of Fryes and finally broke down - I originally ordered the Campus 14L in a 6, but it was too big, so I wanted to try a 5.5 - no 5.5 in the Campus, so based on reviews I tried the Maxine Campus - LOVE THEM. It looks fantastic with bootcut pants, with tucked in jeans, with skirts, dresses - I could probably even pull them off with some funky shorts. And they're super comfy - I'm normally a 5.5/6 - very glad I got the 5.5 - it fits like a glove with decent socks. If I wanted to wear really thin socks/tights only in them, I'd probably need a 5. I've also got a narrower foot - fits perfectly from that angle as well. Oh - also - my calves are pretty small - maybe 13 inches or not quite? - so the circumferences of the Maxine is perfect - not so roomy that they're flappy-slappy when I walk, but roomy enough to get my skinny jeans tucked in easily. I hope they last forever! Seriously, when I wear them I feel so put together, it's unreal. Yay Frye! I still want a pair of regular Campus boots though - maybe the 12R.

They are the perfect boots -
OMG I just got them a day earlier than expected (and less than 24 hours after I ordered them - Thanks Zappos!). And I LOVE them. I've been searching for the "perfect" boot for awhile - low heel (I'm tall), casual but can be dressed up, weather-resistant, cute, etc. I tried a couple of other brands, styles and they didn't cut it. Bit the bullet for these and couldn't be happier. I got the olive color, and they are perfect for work, play, travel, etc. I work in a very casual environment, but want to dress up a little, so these are great. They come up about 2/3 of my calf, which I thought would be unflattering but actually still look cute. The ankles bunch a little b/c I think my calves are wide, but makes them cuter still! Heel is a little slippery, but I will get used to that. Toes are a bit pointy, too, for that dressier look... They're awesome.

I like these pants so much I ordered two more pairs. I have shortish legs (29 inseam) and am fairly curvy, with a small waist, medium hips, and muscular legs--a hiker's build. I had to size up from my usual 6 to an 8. I can see that they wouldn't fit everyone, but they were perfect for me. They're just warm enough for almost year-round wear in the cool foggy area I live in. I like them for hiking, travel, and everyday wear. They even look good with a blazer and blouse at work. The versatility is a real plus. I do not put mine in the dryer; I line-dry them to avoid shrinkage and extend their life.

Excellent quality- be patient while breaking them in and they will mold to your feet perfectly. Do not buy a size larger as the sizing is slightly snug for a reason. I put a chain around the ankles to break up the simplicity.

 |  | I have never been a big online shopper until I recently found myself with little time to go out and shop. I was browsing around for some boots online one day and after noticing my boss frequently getting Zappos packages, I decided to check you out. I found some great boots but they were a tad too small when I got them yesterday. I was bummed thinking I'd have to wait several more days to get my boots but I ordered the next size up last night at 10:00. I woke up to an email this morning saying my shipping was upgraded to priority shipping free of charge and would ship out TODAY?! Not even twelve hours after I placed my order! I hardly had time to get the tape on the box to return the first pair of boots and my new ones should be on my front porch when I get home (I tracked them and they are out for delivery!)
