I can't believe I found exactly what I was looking for!
At work we're not permitted "open-toe" footwear. I'd been wearing sandals since the 1960s but, because of the policy, had to wear shoes for years. Then I spotted somebody's Fisherman's sandals and realized I could get around the policy with that style.
I ordered four different models from reputable shoe companies, but all four were unsatisfactory. One was too heavy. Another pulled off the heel when I walked. A third had an oily look and couldn't be polished. A fourth used layer upon layer of leather- not nice-looking. I gave up.
Then I found Hush Puppies Response. They had no bad points and all good ones. They feel light as a feather, and cool. They fit right, don't rub. They look very good, and the leather is good (I'm a leather-worker). The price is surprisingly reasonable, too. I really hope Hush Puppies don’t discontinue this model because I'm going to want another pair!

Average shoe overall. I was attracted initially by the price and look. After trying them on, shoes squeaked annoyingly as I walked. Comfort was good but not great. I was disappointed in the look as the finish was just OK and the middle fisherman seam seemed off-centered.

A Good Mephisto Substitute -
I was searching for a sandal with toes enclosed and the Mephisto sandal caught my eye. This Hush Puppy sandal is a good substitute for less money. Referring to previous comments, the minimal arch support does cause a slight squeak, but I am having no problem with big toe room. The shoe fits true to size, is comfortable, and looks great!

According to my husband, they're best shoes ever!!! Very soft and comfortable. Like you have nothing on your feet. Perfect for long walks. They don't look cheap. Quality A+++.

Not for barefeet -
I got these with the idea of getting a cheap version of Mephistos, and as usual you get what you pay for.... First the good news, the leather used is great and the shoes look good and well made... and then the bad, I have tough feet and in the summer never wear socks with my shoes (usually sandals); I can wear virtually any shoe and my feet do fine, but these Hush Puppies rub against the bone above the big toes in such a way that I can't wear them... also they 'squeak', but I suppose a little baby powder would do the trick (if I could wear the shoes).

It would not be fair for me to give a review without explaining that my feet are total disasters and evan custom made shoes don't feel that great. I must be honest and say that this particular shoe is about as comfortable as I've found. I'm sure that someone who has a "normal" foot will be extremely pleased .

Good sandals -
Not as heavy-duty as Rockports, but that's a plus in that your feet stay cooler in these. Good looking, comfortable sandals.
