Since I use platform pedals, I have always made do with using old hiking shoes, etc. when I mountain bike. Riding with this shoes really make a difference. They have a great surface for sticking to the pedals, protective padding about the ankles, yet still allow freedom to quick dismounts when trying very technical terrain. Definitely love these shoes, they were comfortable from day one!

The shoes are awesome for trail riding. Sticking to the pedals without having to clip in is a great feeling. Plenty of toe wiggle room so your feet do not get cramped on a long ride through the woods. High instep collar really keeps ankles from getting bruised. Ordered the same size of my trail hiking shoes. Shoes are great to walk around in if you are touring and want to stop and look around. Definitely worth the investment.

Bought these for my girlfriend who refuses to use clip-ins on her Stumpjumper FSR. She loves the looks and grip and said "these are the best purchase you have ever made for me." By the way, I bought her the bike, too. So these are better than a brand new bike.
Other brands recommended by reviewer: these are wider than normal shoes had to go a hafl size down.

Very comfortable. Good grip. Little rubber band to hold the lace - convenient. Unique design and pretty color. I landed in a muddy paddle, but the shoes have a large water-proof area around the toes - I didn’t get wet, and the shoes didn’t get dirty. Very happy with these.

The new Karvers are great. I got them for my birthday from my boyfriend. They stay on the pedals much better than regular tennis shoes and I have a lot more confidence riding downhill in them now. The only problems about the shoe is that there isn't really any arch support, and they are made of leather.
Other brands recommended by reviewer: This is the only brand I would recommend for mountain biking at all!

Karvers are a good buy!
I have had my pair of Women's Five Ten Karvers for a few months now and am really happy with them. I wanted them primarily for riding my mountain bike. I found that the soles of the Karver work amazingly well with my Crank Brother's pedals. They stick! The beefy inside collar looks like they would be cumbersome to put on but no worries. They slip on easily and were extremely comfortable right from the beginning with adequate room in the width of the toe area. I also liked the sturdiness and support of the outer sole. I rarely find a shoe that I like right away so these are a treat. I am using them for an all around outside shoe and have even done some short runs in them, even though perhaps they are a bit heavy for that. The only downside, the rubber soles will leave marks on your floors. So TAKE YOUR SHOES OFF IN THE HOUSE!

Zappos did a great job at sending this great product to me faster than expected. The shoe fits true to the Five Ten sizing chart. I love this shoe. The soft cuff around the ankle is very comfortable. The shoe just screams "Let's play some more!"
