GREAT BOOTS WITH A GOOD FIT!
I needed good boots and fast. These boots fit well, although a bit stiff on top. They allow me to easily keep up with my four kids in snow and on ice. The best feature is how fast I can put them on which is important with that many kids! I stayed out all day while the kids learned to ski and had no worries as my feet were warm. Merrell boots and shoes are the best and I would suggest for anyone to buy these boots for outdoor fun in the winter!

A decent little boot -
I ordered this boot as an alternative to a typical lace-up hiking boot. It's definitely an easier on-and-off pair of footwear, but I did find that the zipper occasionally slides down by itself...a little annoying. Otherwise, the boot was pretty much true to size, perhaps a bit narrow. They're a little bulky, not as comfortable as I expected for a Merrell shoe, but they are a winter boot, so I wasn't expecting it to feel like a slipper. The sole grips well on slippery ground.

Just as described -
I needed a warm, easy to put on boot for running out a few times a day to walk my dog. This winter has been brutal and these are perfect. They are most comfortable with a padded ski or hiking sock.

Did the job -
Theses boots were bought in a moment of desperation. I walk 2 miles to work each day and found myself trudging through 8 inches of snow for a week here in Seattle. The boots were water tight and warm. The tops were a little tight (I have heavier ankles) but I was able to adjust the zipper to a good comfort level. Not the prettiest boots I've owned. But they did the job. Great traction too. A serious winter boot.

Great Boot -
Fits my wide foot well. Comfy and looks good. I chose this boot because I have other Merrill shoes that are really comfortable.

The best winter boots I've ever had -
It's hard to find a functional, effective, even reasonably attractive boot that will withstand Chicago winters. This one fills the bill. I wish I had found it years ago.

Style and warmth -
These are very spiffy-looking in black; go well with pants or skirt & tights. Even the Vibram sole is elegant with some siping and snowflakes - but not so sure it is ice-cutting/anti-slip. They are very hot and overly snug with wool socks - you can easily get away with tights-only on these & stay warm. Cushiony rocker sole is comfortable to walk in. Have a snowshoe strap ridge. Orthotics fit inside without pinching, but if you have feet that only seem to like Keens these will feel cramped after a couple of hours due to the standard shape of the forefoot. Because the outer shell is part rigid plastic, they will not stretch out.

Met expectations -
Having been very pleased with my Merrell hiking shoes, I wanted to try Merrel boots. I have used them twice in snowy weather, and they are just fine. I can see how they may run snug for some people, but since I don't wear heavy socks, they work for me.

When I squeezed my normally full sized 6.5 foot into it, it felt a little snug. I tried walking around and it was clear that if I wore a thicker sock and expected my feet to not hurt, I should upgrade to yet another size. I'm usually between a 6.5 and a 7, so if a shoe runs large I take the 6.5 and visa versa. I am returning these for a (yikes) size 7.5, a full size bigger than my norm. I do have to say that despite the size issue, it felt like there was good shock absorption and arch support.

 | | Dear Zappos, We would like to take the time to let you know how impressed we were with our last order. It was literally on our doorstep within 12 hours. Your shipping upgrade was much appreciated. The start of the school year left us scrambling to find my son's size 14 shoes and you really let him start off in style. Thank you, Cyndi R. | | ~ Cyndi R., October 16 2009
