Shoe Size: Felt true to size

What's with the draw string?
It's a very comfortable shoe, I haven't worn them outside yet, but I can tell they'll support my somewhat flat feet just fine. One odd thing, though, is the drawstring thingy at the heel. Take a close look at the back and side angles of the shoe. I have no idea what this is, and there was no mention of it with the packaging. It's completely unnecessary as an aid to pulling the shoe on, as the shoelaces slip open very easily when undone. Hopefully it won't get snagged on anything.

 |  | I just called Zappos to ask questions about shoe width (I need a wider size) and a rep helped me to find some boots that come in wide sizes, of which I ordered two pair. She was very helpful and friendly, and also upgraded me to VIP status. I'm THRILLED that my order will come tomorrow! And my return will be sped up as well. Thanks to the rep for doing a great job!
