Overall, great boot. The boots definitely run large. I wear a 13, bought these in a 12, and they fit great. They are a little narrow as well. Also: the color I bought was called "Amber", but is really more like a dark brown in my opinion. They take a bit to break in, not a boot you can wear out of the box for an entire day or shift. I wore them around the house for an hour or two for three days and after that they were fine. They could be worn for work, or for a casual night out. This is my second pair of Red Wings and I highly recommend this boot.

These are great boots. I love them. The leather is amazing and they are very comfortable. I will say that they run big. I usually wear 12s or 13s (always have to get 13s in Nikes, if that helps) and had to get an 11.5 in these, and I still could probably go with an 11 and be just fine. These look great with a nice pair of khakis. Very classic look. Excellent boot, a little pricey but I highly recommend.

These shoes run 1 size too big and are extremely narrow. I suggest regular width customers get the 2E width. I ordered an 11 and they were huge. So I got a 10, but then they were too narrow.

I love the idea of the entire Lifestyle/Heritage Red Wing line. But unfortunately most are not available in the wide widths i\'ve come to enjoy from Red Wing. These would be perfect for someone with a narrow to average foot. I tried to accommodate for my wide foot by purchasing a longer size, but unfortunately they never were even close to fitting. Also if you\'re use to cushion insoles this may not be for you. However, if you can get past that these boots are an excellent find. Great style and quality construction.

A great pair of boots to have - Saw this boot in this month's Mens Health and Fitness magazine in an article about JCrew clothing and found that I liked the look. The boots fit well and wear well as stated in the MHF article they look good with jeans or casual pants. My retired mechanic father used to wear these as work boots. I highly recommend them.

I have had these boots for about 3 weeks now and they are pretty well broken in. Some things to think about before purchasing these boots. Several reviewers have mentioned that you may want to order a size smaller than you normally would as these are pretty big, but think about this before you decide on the size you want. There is no cushion in the boots at all. The foot area is all leather. Some people like their boots this way, but if you have bad knees or arches you may want to stay with your normal size. When I received mine and put them on for the 1st time they where big with a lot of room left over. Since I have bad knees I have padding and arch supports that I normally put in my shoes and boots. When I installed these in the boots they (the boots) fit perfectly, if I had ordered a size smaller I would have had problems with them possibly being too tight. If you don't use any padding for your feet, then you will want to order a size smaller. I love the look and feel of these boots. I was lucky to catch these on sale for a great price a few weeks ago and they are worth it. Also please note that the bottom of the sole has no tread. If you want this style of boot with tread then you may want the Redwing Beckman 6" Classic Round Boot, this has a tread pattern on the sole. The fast service and shipping from Zappos was also fantastic. Ordered them online, was sent and email saying that they would be sent overnight for free and got them the next day; you can't beat that type of service.

If you have a narrow foot and don't need arch support, this boot might work for you. If I wanted a cap toe boot with no support that wasn't very wide though, I could buy some Stacy Adams 'Morgans' for a lot less. If I wanted the cap toe style in a robust boot, I could buy used Swedish surplus cap toes from armynavydeals dot com for $32, or lower quality Bates jump boots for $100. What I actually did, though, was to return these Iron Ranger guys, stop drinking beer, bicycle to work to save gas money, and spent another $100 on some White's Semi Dress boots. Frugality is not the same as cheapness, and the White's are tough, handsome, supportive, easy to break in, custom built to measurements and a tracing of my foot, and come with any of several Vibram soles. They don't offer a cap toe, but Wesco boots does. I recommend biting the bullet and paying for quality boots that will last two decades.

A Very Sharp (and Comfy) Pair of Boots. As one of my friend's said, on my first night wearing these out, these are "a really sharp pair of boots." They're incredibly comfortable (though it did take around a day of wearing them to break them in completely), and their durability is obvious once you have them in hand. I agree with other reviewers that they feel around a half size too small. They're also a little heavier than I thought they might be. In spite of this, I'm very, very happy with this pair of shoes. I really couldn't ask for more in a pair of leather boots.

First of all, these are not hiking boots. They are work boots that double as a good looking casual boot. If you are expecting them to feel like tennis shoes or the latest GORE-TEX boot you are probably going to be disappointed. What the boot is, is the same high quality, extremely durable, serious piece of gear that Red Wing has been known for over the past generation. Honestly, I did not expect a US company to make a product this good in the US. The materials are top shelf; the quality is at least as good as any boot out there, if not much better. In short, you are going to get a very well made product. It will take a couple of weeks to break them in but when you get there you will probably look forward to putting them on. I usually wear a pair of high-end Aslo hiking boots for working in the yard and walking the dogs but my IR's have replaced them. They are just more comfortable and cool for that type of stuff. They don't have the sole for hiking but they are a better boot for dinking around where traction in mud is not critical. Around town, I would have no problem wearing my IR's with a pair of nice cords or heavy wool pants or with jeans and a blazer this fall. You can certainly dress these up if/when you want to.
Other brands recommended by reviewer: Whites semi-dress boot - but be prepared for sticker shock. LLBean offers a similar boot.

Quality: I've been wearing them almost daily for a month and they are still in great shape. These boots are amazing and I expect to get many many years of use out of them. I also plan to resole them when the time comes. They are classics. Sizing: I normally wear either 8.5 or 9, but I got 8 and they fit perfect. Value: Anyone who thinks the price is too high, should travel overseas, and see how much they cost. Keep in mind they are made in the USA. They are classics and should last a longtime if maintained. Comfort: These are not running shoes, but they are very comfortable for work boots. I often walk 5 miles a day wearing them. I've had no problems. They are great summer boots and look amazing with khakis. I highly recommend these boots.

These are fantastic boots. They look beautiful and feel great. They will take well over a month of constant wearing to break in, but its worth it. I still marvel at the craftsmanship of these when I put them on. Ill probably be wearing these well over 15 years from now. As they get scuffed, it just makes them look even better. These are also made in the USA for anyone who cares about it.

What a great looking boot. They are built to last and are seriously rugged. However, I broke these boots in for a week before I took them on a camping trip where we went on an a easy cheesy 5 mile hike. Afterwards I was so footsore that I could barely make it to the 200 yards to the latrine. Problem: lack of arch support, pinch across the top of the foot where the toe cap stops, and an overall lack of support. The lack of tread on the sole also limited my traction on some of the more slick parts of the trail. The good news is my feet stayed dry and the boots cleaned up well and still look good. Great boot for light duty walking, and would not hesitate wearing them in rough work conditions, but I wouldn't want to have to stand in them all day or walk long distances. All in all a little disappointing considering the exorbitant price tag and Red Wing name.

Iron Ranger -
I use this boot for construction work, wears well, looks great, but I like the light weight. This boot definitely runs a half size too large. If you have a normal width foot, order the wide, it also runs narrow. Once you figure out the sizing it's a great boot.

These are a Birthday Present for my brother. I ordered them because he got a pair of them for Christmas and has not stopped talking about them. He loves them. Very comfortable, fits just right, wonderful design. I have to say these are really good-looking boots!

Nice Looking Boot -
They are a really handsome pair of boots (hawthorne color) but I think they are a bit pricey. Should be cheaper, and some of the workmanship of the boot is a tad questionable for the price. Also, they are not good in the snow and muck because the sole is flat with no grooves. So they are more style than function but look really good. I would have liked them to be about 4" higher, but they a true engineer boots.

Great looking shoe -
I bought these boots for my boyfriend for x-mas. He loves the boots. We both wear Red Wing boots for work. They are the most comfortable boots I have found for working hard all day. I wont buy any other brand and I love the new styles for casual shoes they have. Im ready for them to have really cool womens shoes too.

'Pop'
Great looking boots but, I had the same popping issue as a previous reviewer. The left boots sole 'popped' when taking a step as if the shank wasn't secured to the sole. I had no choice but to return them. Maybe the poppers are all part of the same batch? The sizing is a bit generous. I ordered 1/2 size down from what I normally wear and it was a good fit. Not terribly comfortable out of the box but adequate. The boots look fantastic and once they accumulate a few miles I'm sure would look even better. If they could just improve the quality control, these boots would be sure winners!

This is the 7th pair of Red Wings I have owned in 20 years. Three of them I still wear to this day. Never have I had a pair with an issue. These are incredible and one of the most handsome pair of boots I own. I have worn them every day since I bought them, and I have had so many compliments. They truly do look like a pair of boots right out of your dads closet in 1956. Except these don't smell. They were comfortable right out of the box. The stitching is tight, the soles are great, and I am happy with a boot that I will have for a very long time.

Review revision -
I posted below that the 9 1/2's fit well, but 15 minutes later I decided to send them back and order a 9. I am wearing the 9's now and they fit well, but there is definitely going to be a break-in period. They feel a bit tight width-wise, but the leather is very stiff and they should loosen up a bit as worn.

Good so far -
Just received my Iron Rangers. Good looking shoe. After reading previous posts I stretched, bent and twisted them to check the construction and everything looks good so far. According to Zappos size chart I was a 10, where I normally wear a 10 1/2 or 11. I ordered a 9 1/2 and they fit well.

110% Satisfied! Well worth EVERY penny!
A little tough to break in. As for construction, I've searched every stitch and could not find one thing out of place. These were love at first sight. I've been waiting for a boot that personifies the early 1900's. Something with a classy yet masculine boot. I've searched all the ultra high-end boutiques but only found imitators. Thankfully my time has come to cross paths with the originator. Excellent buy. Respect the classics!!!

Beware. Quality control at Red Wing is sleeping on the job -
Keep in mind; this is a $274 pair of shoes. Absolutely loved the styling. Red Wing finally hit the nail on the head in that regard. Great looking pair of boots. Unfortunately, the quality of these things is...well, ridiculously poor. Materials quality is fine, but the craftsmanship is horrible. First pair...cosmetically flawless, I was thrilled...until I put them on and took a step forward. I heard a loud "pop"...then another loud "pop." "What is that noise," asked my co-worker in the next cubical. I took that right boot off and found that although the sole was indeed stitched on, it had no glue (or the glue had given way) on the forefoot. The loose section of sole created an air bubble, then popped it each time I took a step. Left boot was fine. I called Zappos and they immediately shipped a replacement pair. Too my disgust, I opened the replacement box to find that the left shoe on the replacement pair had the boot body positioned well off-center at the heel area. Then I thought I could take the one good boot from each pair...left and right. Well, that idea went out the window, as I quickly noticed that one pair had a readily noticeable brown stitching ledge around the heel and one had a pink stitching ledge around the heel. If you want to roll the dice on a $274 pair of boots, I wish you the best of luck. There probably are a few nicely made pairs out there, but just remember I just received two pairs in a row (one sent as a replacement) with obvious flaws. Not looking for something to display in a museum, just looking for a pair of boots that start out in the correct form.
