A nice casual shoe with a dressy side, the fabric is a satin! This was not noticeable to me when I was looking online. I wear a size 10 and am always looking for a shoe that makes me feet look smaller, this shoe does the job. Had to give it a 4 out of 5 stars for comfort. The day starts out OK but by around 2 o'clock my feet really started to wear down. It might be because I'm not used to wearing a shoe that has a roll to it, like this one does. I walk up and down hallways and staircases at work and this shoe maneuvers very well! I'll definitely buy more J-41s!

I was looking for a pair of dressy but comfortable shoes to wear to an outdoors wedding. These were very comfy, but the heel slipped on and off when I walked. I found them unacceptable so I returned them. I ended up getting the Zephyr in black and they were the most comfortable 'dress' shoes I have ever worn.

I am a J-41 junkie. This manufacturer makes gorgeous, stylish shoes that your feet will thank you for, comfort-wise. I use this particular shoe for business and for casual occasions. Whenever I wear any of my various J-41s, I get lots of compliments and questions about where to get them. I recommend Zappos to anyone who asks, because their customer service is amazing. Never fear shopping for shoes on the internet. When necessary, returns to Zappos could not be any easier.

I love these shoes! Very comfortable and perfect for work. They are hands down the most comfortable heels I have ever worn. After a day on them, my feet do not hurt at all.

I ordered half-size up per other reviewers' suggestion. When they came, I tried them on with workout socks and they felt a little big. I took the socks off and the heel slipped off as I walked. I just ordered my true size and hopefully they will fit. I can't speak to other aspects of these because they are too big, but they are cute.

LOVE THEM. Once I got them, I ordered another pair. I have both black and brown. Do order a 1/2 size bigger. I get comments on them all the time. I am on my feet all day and they are sooo comfortable...

Great Shoes!
Really comfortable, different, and funky-looking shoes. Like most people had said, these shoes run small. I'm usually a 9 or 9 1/2 and I ordered a 10 and they fit pretty well. Good arch support and pretty comfortable for shoe that has a little bit of height. I would gladly recommend these shoes!

Love this shoe -
I ordered a half size up per other user's comments and was glad I did. These shoes fit snugly, but comfortably, at a half size up. I fell for the look right off, but my daughter didn't like them until she saw them in person. Now we both love them. The crossed straps remind me of my ballet shoes, and the round toes are perfect for my wide toe box. Also, I had wanted a shoe that I could walk in that was not a sneaker and had a bit of a heel, and this one is perfect for that: very comfortable, and even springy. I can even dance in them, which is saying a lot for me.

I ordered half a size larger than I usually wear and that worked well. These shoes fit great with thicker tights or socks but are a touch too big in the heel with nylons.

I bought these shoes for my daughter who is vegan, but they looked so good that I had to order a pair for myself. They look best with dark nylons or tights, but are really cute - lots of compliments. I am a little worried about the hold up of the elastic over time.

These shoes are extremely well made and comfortable. I had to buy a half size larger than my regular size. I am a flight attendant and on my feet for most of the day. These were very comfortable. My only complaint is your feet do sweat; however, that is to be expected with this type of shoe.

Cool but little -
I found this shoe to be very short - I normally wear 8.5 but returned them for a 9 and I can only wear them with tights, no socks -they seem very small but lovely I sort of wish I had gotten 9.5.

I read all of the reviews more than once. I analyzed the pictures more than once. I was sure this shoe would be perfect for work where I am on my feet all day. They are funky-cute, look comfortable, and have a decent heel height. The first day I wore the shoes, they hurt my feet a little. Maybe they needed to 'break in' as suggested in the reviews. So the next week I wore them again and the shoes hurt my feet so much that it took three days for the pain to go away. It wasn't because the shoes were too small nor that they were too large. The fit seemed good when I first put them on. The heel height doesn't bother me with other shoes. I think the ball of my foot is a little too wide for the shoe which made them painful. I have never worn wide shoes sizes though. The heels did slip off when I went up stairs or walked fast, so if you have a little wider foot and a narrow heel, these shoes are NOT for you. My daughter now owns my shoes and doesn't think they are nearly as cute as I did. Her foot is average width and the shoes don't hurt her feet like they did mine.

Great Vegan Option!
I was very excited to find these super cute vegan Mary Janes on Zappos. After reading the other reviews, though, I was apprehensive about the comfort and fit. Not to worry. I ordered an 8, my true size, and they fit well. These are a snug fit (especially in the toe box), with a somewhat clunky feel--very similar to a Dansko. I get compliments on these every time I wear them; they look great with jeans or slacks. I support any company with vegan wares and am anxious to purchase from J-41 again.

Cute, versatile, high-heel looking wedge.
This shoe is great for dressing up or dressing down. It needs to be said that it does not look right with a full-length skinny jean, but don't let that discourage you from considering this shoe for capris or for skirts of all lengths. It's so cute that I want it in both brown and black (I only bought it in black), yet it's so distinctive that I worry people will notice that I have the same shoe in different colors. I have a wide foot, and it fits great. I'm also not interested in heels for daily wear now that I am chasing after my toddler and running mundane errands all the time, but the J-41 Madrid looks like a heel while offering the stability and comfort of a wedge. Finally, as a connoisseur of vegan shoes, I love the material of this shoe- it does not look cheap and is pliable enough, just like leather.

Love, love, love EXCEPT a little tight -
Great shoes. No problems EXCEPT they do run a little small. I got an 8 & 1/2 which is my usual size, and can only wear hose or bare feet with them. If I had tried them on in a store, I might have purchased 1/2 size larger. But, I wear them all the time. Super comfortable, lots of compliments received on them. I will buy J-41's again!

I was very happy to find these shoes. They really are great and animal friendly. I love the way they look, except there is a fluorescent green mark on the heel and the sole. They are quite comfortable too. However, I need a size 10.5 and they only go up to size 10.

A treat to find attractive non-leather shoes -
My previous pursuit of non-leather shoes was at live" stores and mostly yielded athletic shoes and sandals. The only unexpected characteristic of these were the feeling that back and front of soles "rolled", the tapering leaving a sense of balance rivaling "spike heels", and a smaller footprint. Not hard to get used to them, though.

Toooo Cute!
OMG! These are too cute! Size runs 1/2 size too small. Mostly comfortable; one of my feet is slightly wider at base of toes and it hurt on the outside of that foot (where my pinky toe meets my foot). I think they just need some breaking-in. These look so cute with pants, jeans, and especially capris! They are the perfect combo of casual + dressy. The heel is great and the shoe hugs your foot. I love this company's shoes! I own a couple pairs of the J-41 "Paris". And, it's SUPER comfortable.

I love this shoe but remember...
Vegan means it's not leather! I only buy leather shoes and when I bought these I assumed they were leather. DUH! Obviously I was didn't read the shoe name before buying. Fortunately, they are VERY comfortable (I can easily walk 1 mile) and cute as hell (I get compliments every time I wear them). This is my second pair of J-41's. My feet are wider than most but not technically "wide" I find this brand fits me perfectly. If you have narrow feet it's probably best if you stay away from J-41's.

I like them but, the other reviews are right on. My heel slips right out and my toes are squished. I decided to keep them because they are a super cute vegan shoe, and not completely uncomfortable, but I am a bit disappointed in the fit. I ordered a 1/2 size up and that's a good fit.

Not very comfortable for me personally. I'm thinking I should've ordered a half size larger. My toes bunch in the front. Other than that mistake on my part - I think the shoes are a great looking casual shoe. Great with jeans and other casual wear. Just wish I would've ordered a half size larger. Zappos is the best company on the planet!

Good look - I have several pairs of J-41 shoes because I like the style. I typically wear a size 8.5, but these felt too small – toes were crunched. The 9 are better but, at the end of the day, my toes sometimes ache. Still like them a lot, and will continue buying J-41s.

Cute, but painful -
Loved the idea of such a cute, vegan, enviro-friendly shoe for work. Unfortunately, the vamp is oddly angled and forces the toes down into the toe box leaving the heel to flap around and the toes to feel squished. Had to add toe and heel pads.

I checked the reviews and went up a half size, from my usual 9 to 9.5, and they fit fine. Even though I went up in size they make my feet look small. They are so cute with casual wear, jeans, or with black hose and a skirt, but they distribute my weight right on the ball of my foot and are not comfortable. I'm disappointed.
