I love the look of the desert boots. They look great with a pair of jeans or even a cute dress, but they were really hard to break in. Also, you have to get at least a 1/2 size bigger than your true size. Make sure you wear the right socks as well. The first few times you wear them you will most likely get some blisters.

This is easily one of the best pair of "shoes" I have ever owned. For years all I wore were sneakers because of the comfort factor and could not stand shoes, but the desert boots changed everything. These shoes are so comfortable, durable, and really stylish if your into that, too. I was worried the gum soles would wear out quickly, but I'm going on a year and they still are going strong. Will own a pair of these for the rest of my life.

Good, stylish shoe. Read the reviews on here, this is not a "dress boot"; this works only with jeans or khakis, and is a business casual or weekend shoe. Upside, great looking and very comfortable. Downside, limited arch support and a huge heel area; they always feel a little "loose".

What happened to the wide width. I've been wearing almost nothing but Clarks desert boots for over fifteen years and love them; I own five pairs and wore only a couple pairs out in that whole time. But the neither look as good, nor are they as comfortable as before because like socks now a days, "one size fits all." They used to come in a wide width (I guess "E"), but now they don't. One size does NOT.

Cheap new version of great old shoe; worst thing is only half insole, ball of foot has no surface covering over gravel like surface of front half of insole. Uncomfortable. Need to purchase aftermarket insole insert, but then I didn't buy 1/2 size larger to accommodate. Waste of money! Sorry I bought them.

This is a beautiful shoe. The uppers are quite dark, almost eggplant. They fit true to size. Over the years I've had several pairs of the tan boots. My only criticism pertains to the laces. They are very fragile and always wear out and break before the actual shoe shows any signs of wear. I've never been able to find an acceptable replacement for the laces because of their unique length and color. Clarks should include at least one pair of replacement laces when the shoes are purchased.

50's classic -
Got my first pair in 1953 - tan only at the time. Worn the style off and on since then. Ultra comfortable shoe that never needs breaking in. Sleek appearance and goes with everything casual. There is a reason why a design lasts that long.

This Clarks is the bomb. They are comfortable and neat. Nice dress boot or just for everyday wear. Excellent fit and good support.

I initially ordered size 10 (US) sand colored according to the sizing chart and they were too big. Return was effortless and went without a hitch. The replacements actually arrived before I could actually send the others out. Given that I work overseas, mail in and/or out is sometimes sporadic but the process went well. My size was 8.5 and not available in sand so I went with the brown. Great shoe. I really like the "unstructured" leather and the solid, gum rubber sole...really comfy. One small idea (nitpicking actually but an individual preference) would be to place the shoestring eyelets a little bit higher up on the shoe if at all possible...maybe start the holes one or two holes higher. After reading other reviews, I purchased insoles and it did some good but these shoes are great with or without the insoles. Good without them but wonderfully comfortable with them. Looking forward to wearing these boots/shoes for a long time and will likely get some of the wallabee boots as well, given that my old, "copycat" brand has worn out at the waffle patterned sole. Would gladly recommend the Clark's Desert Boot to anyone that would ask.

The color of brown on these is unique, rich looking, and they go well with business casual + jeans. Not much support, but very comfortable around the office - wouldn't walk long distances in them. Would buy them again and at Zappos.

For the looks, not the comfort -
These shoes are beautiful and are very easy if you're just wearing them around school or are driving in them--but try walking forty city blocks, and blisters start appearing. The ball of the foot has no padding whatever, and pounding your (basically) naked foot against concrete for a few hours is terrible. I added gel inserts, but since the boots are very narrow and lacking vertical space to begin with, I can't even get my foot in with the gel inside. I just wear them without the inserts, but never for walking very far or long. Definitely order a half size smaller than normal.

Comfortable shoe, but poor construction.
Fits true to size and the sole is comfortable to walk on, but the upper is made of poor-quality leather. For a shoe of this price, I expect better materials.

Great Shoes, Zappos wonderful with fast arrival -
I have both the Clarks Wallabee and Desert Trek and love them both. I recently purchased the Desert Boot, and they are my new favorite. You cannot go wrong with the plantation crepe soles on these. Weird Sizing though. I wear an 11 and a half in the trek, and 11 in the wallabee, and a 10 in the desert boot. Clarks make some outstanding shoes. Also, Zappos is an incredible company, deliver overnight, would recommend to anyone.

A Classic -
The Clarks Desert Boot is a classic that has remained virtually unchanged for over 50 years. The last pair of these I owned was 30 years ago and they're still great. Extremely comfortable and the gum sole is very quiet (nice in the office sometimes). Clarks is a great brand.

Nice boots.
I just got these yesterday and like them so far. I followed the advice on here and ordered one size smaller than I usually wear and they fit perfectly. Did a fair bit of walking last night on concrete and they left me hurting, but I think they'll break in. They don't offer much in the way of arch support. I might add some insoles if I'm going to do much walking in them. They look great with jeans and the price was right on these.

Really enjoy wearing this shoe. Can’t wear them for 20 hour long days, but they are very comfortable. I wear a ten and ordered a ten- they fit great.

Just Awesome!
These shoes are amazing, not only are they really stylish, and kids (I talk for my sons) like to wear them, but they are great for all seasons! Yes you might think they’re not good for snow because its suede but it’s not true at all, I’ve had these shoes for over 3 years and the water doesn’t affect them whatsoever, it’s all true and all for a good price!!!

Bought them 3 weeks ago. Usually I wear a 13 but I had to return them for a 12. Love them. Great, "clean", classic boot if you do not mind the absence of arch support (which I don't because I think they make the feet lazy).

Classic style that looks great with denim or khaki's -
Regarding sizing, you will need to size down. My feet measure a size 10 on the metal shoe calibrator but I ordered the 9.5 and it fits perfectly. The size 10 I tried on locally was too big. Rule of thumb is to size down half size from your dress shoe size. Sneakers vary in sizes so dress shoes, which measure very closely to your feet, are the best basis for sizing. The Desert Boot feels a little narrow as well but the leather does stretch in width so you will fill it out after break-in.

Very good classic shoes that are so simple and clean.
These shoes are great. I love the clean, simple, classic look. So many shoes today are too fussy with lots of unnecessary details. It doesn't get any simpler than this, and the price is so low for what you get. I have seen so many other shoes that cost more and appear cheaper. The reason I bought these is that they are very low profile and not clunky, so I can wear them with slim jeans. Also, they're more comfortable than I even expected. They're better than some sneakers I've worn lately with thin soles. Something to note though, I usually wear a size 12 shoe, and the 11's fit me like a glove, just perfect.

The somewhat loose fit takes some getting used to, but it's quite comfortable overall. I do wish I had ordered the lighter shade of suede but these still look classic.

This is a serviceable shoe/boot. I find the heel to be lower than I like. Softness of the sole is not as good as original crepe.

Great shoe, great fit -
I was really pleased to see these shoes on Zappos as they were an old time favorite. I ordered my normal size, had a few days of a tender heels until they felt like they old friends they are. I highly recommend the shoes and Zappos.

 |  | I just want to thank you, and commend the customer service staff at Zappos. I just couldn't believe it when you actually kept me abreast of the certain pair of shoes I was looking for! Having a size 4- 1/2 foot, is very hard finding shoes. I could wear certain kinds of shoes such as boots, clogs, etc…but having to wear 3 heavy pairs of socks in order for them to fit! Well, they fit, but my feet kill me! Clogs such as the ones I purchased, seem to be more comfortable. I'm just hoping that they're not too big for me. I can’t wait to get them and see!
