Probably the worst smelling shoes I have ever owned. They smell like gasoline and I have had them for over a month and still cannot get rid of the smell. It is pretty overbearing too, to the point I have had them outside for days at a time to try and get rid of the smell. But they still smell like a dead possum that drowned in gasoline. Really sucks because I like the shoe fit and design.

These shoes do smell pretty bad when they first arrive. I had to sit them on an open window for about a week to somewhat air them out. But otherwise, they are nice shoes, good soft leather, totally worth the money. And they look really good!

These shoes have a terrible odor to them. They stink. It's like a gas smell! Do not buy this product. I will probably throw away since I wore them and can't return them. We had to roll windows down in car. Thought it was the car, but it was the shoes!

These shoes are very comfortable, but the smell is nearly unbearable. I didn't think it would bother me as much as it does, but the smell is pronounced. They smell like gasoline and exhaust fumes, the combination of which can't be good for you. In fact, when I was driving a colleague home last week he was concerned that my car was blowing exhaust from the vents!

They reek! Worse than the other reviews say. I've had them for 2 days and had at least 10 comments about the smell. I work in a casino so I figured people wouldn't be able to smell them over the smoke, but they can. It is horrible.

Everyone was right! These boots smell really bad! I bought them anyway thinking it couldn't be that bad, but it kind of is. I'm going to try to air them out, but the gasoline smell is overwhelming. It's the only thing I've been able to smell all day and it's starting to be nauseating. Other than that though, they look good and are fairly comfortable. And of course Zappos was great to deal with and I'm sure they'll take them back if I can't get them to air out. Till then, I'm keeping them away from any open flames!

This boot is a bargain at the price, despite the complaints about the strong petroleum based odor which IS evident. I put them outside in 65 degree weather for a day and the odor was significantly reduced. Don't be dissuaded by those complaints, this is a fine pair of boots for the price and Zappos delivers quickly as always.

Other reviews here are true. They are cheap and kind of feel like it. They are reasonably comfortable. They do smell strongly like a mechanic's garage. The smell does go away eventually, but give it a couple weeks at least. They also look good; that part's nice.

I love the style, shape and fit of these boots, but unfortunately the smell is no longer bearable. I can not wear these boots to work, I get too many comments about the smell: "I smell gasoline" "do you smell something burning?" I have had them for 3 months and the smell is still strong. Even after leaving them outside to air out. No fault of Zappos, but the manufacturer should really improve their materials. These shoes are going in the trash unfortunately.

Thanks Zappos! I ordered these boots on Wednesday 6-22-09 after 6pm. I took the option of free shipping after reading reviews how fast you guys ship. Much to my surprise my boots arrived around 1pm today which is Friday 6-23-09. One day later! Awesome! The boots look and feel great. Thanks a bunch for the outstanding customer service. I bought these for my son's prom. They are great looking shoe boots. For the price they are actually outstanding looking. I am very happy with this purchase, they looked quite stylish with a suit, and we loved the shape of them. They are comfortable, and I can't say enough positive things about these shoe boots. The quality of leather is pretty decent. My only two small complaints are that the shoes had a not so great smell to them, but I am sure this will fade eventually. My son didn't even comment on that anyway, so it may not be that bad. The other small detail is that it would have been nice if the soles were a bit thicker. But again, I can't complain much because these boots were a great value for the price.

This is a great, inexpensive zip boot. I have used it often to costume stage actors for various time periods. It is an easy fit and looks good, and is durable enough for my purposes.

The best looking and most comfortable boot for the price. And yes, it does have a smell, but it's tolerable. It sort of reminds you every once in a while that you are wearing them.

Wanted a boot that I could use for smart casual as well as dress. These seem to fit the bill. They are comfortable. A little odd creasing when wearing in. Other than that, a decent boot.

They Smell But They’re a Nice Boot!
I read the reviews prior to making my purchase. Most people were saying something about the smell. It’s true; the stench is unbearable if you’re sensitive to that kind of thing. It smells like a combination of shoe polish, glue and gasoline! I didn’t think it would be so pungent. I set my first pair in front of a furnace vent and after about a week the smell is almost gone. On the other hand, I like these boots so much I bought 2 more pair; I have the black, brown and wine now. The reason is simple: price, fit and appearance. I have boots that cost 3 times what the Giorgio Brutini 66014’s cost and I don’t like them as much. They are wider than you would expect but that’s what I wanted. Most of the higher price boots were constricting in some way related to width but not these; for me (and I have a narrow foot) they fit perfectly. Most important is the appearance. You have to like the way they look. I’ve tried all the more expensive varieties and for me these rank number 1 in terms of appearance with the 6” shaft and slightly rounded toe. At first glance my impression was that the interior of this boot wasn’t constructed with the meticulous attention to detail like the more expensive boots. In the end, who cares for this price?

For the price, these are very nice shoes. Leather appears to be quality, and the fit is true to size. But read the other reviews regarding the smell. They weren't kidding! They have a distinct gasoline smell to them that does not appear to be wearing off. I've had these shoes for almost a month now, and they still reek.

Love the boots!
One strange thing is that something in the process of manufacturing left a strong "creosote" smell especially when they warm up after wearing a while. It is noticeable but not objectionable to me. My wife just happened to notice the other day when I had my feet elevated in the recliner. And she just asked, "What is that strange smell"?
