Very comfortable. I do a lot of walking. Usually, I wear a quality hiking boot, but I needed a change of shoes for work. I've had the shoes for about a month. I am a little disappointed that the they are showing some wear in the sole pads so soon. They'll be totally flat by next month. I've owned other Merrells and my wife loves her Merrells. I'll keep wearing them until they wear out and probably get another pair. We also got my son a pair in a different color and he has really liked them and has not noticed the same wear that I have. I do more walking then he does.

These shoes are great! I read the previous reviews and ordered a half size up. Very comfortable and durable. Slip on and off, no laces. These seem like they will last. Amazing service and shipping from Zappos! Thanks again.

Wow, these are the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever tried. As soon as I put them on, they were tight. Not in the toe area, mind you, but where the shoe's tongue normally is (these have something like a built in sock). Now, I read that some people find this shoe comfortable without socks on but I didn't try that. Some people also wrote that you should get a size larger, but I didn't have a problem with the length of the shoe; my toes were right where they should be. I guess a larger size might have also affected the tongue area of the shoe, though, I'm not sure. I was pretty sure I was going to return these, but I really wanted to keep them. I really liked the look. So I wore them around the house for a while, while on the computer, watching TV, just walking around the house. Not wanting to void the return, I never left the house with them, but these shoes just never got comfortable! In fact, with time, they became even more uncomfortable! My heel started to hurt about 3 days into wearing them. That's when I decided to return these shoes. I would say this to anyone looking to buy these shoes: try them on; if they're not instantly comfortable, return them, they won't get much better. Honestly, I've had rental shoes for weddings that were more comfortable than these shoes.

These are definitely cool looking shoes. If you don't wear orthotics, then these shoes should work great for you. However, if you do wear orthotics, then you may have an issue. I have very flat feet and wear orthotics in all my sneakers, which always requires me to switch my orthotics from one sneaker to another. Because of how the Pivot is designed, same for the Chameleon, the orthotics doesn't slip in with ease as other shoes which have an independent tongue. Depending on how wide your orthotics are, they may night sit well inside the Pivot. Once I was able to get the orthotic to sit well, the final issue I had, and is the reason I returned them, was my foot felt way too snug. After about an hour of wearing them around the house, my foot felt like the shoe walls were closing in. I should also mention the Pivots did not feel very ventilated, so my feet felt tight in the Pivots as well as hot. Not very comfortable. Anyway, if you don't wear orthotics, the Pivot may be good for you. If you do wear orthotics, buyer beware. Luckily Zappos has a great return policy!

So I tried on several types of Merrell hiking shoes in a local store, and they all felt a little weird. A bit too stiff, a bit ankle-digging, too much side-to-side slipping in the toe area, and this weird thing in the heel where it feels like your heel is standing on a bump and is going to fall off. Then I ordered the Merrell "Pivot". This is a very different shoe, and is by far the most comfortable Merrell I have ever worn. The upper "tongue" and ankle rim part of the shoe is this continuous stretchy gel-neoprene cuff-like thing that conforms to your ankle and is both comfortable and secure. The elastic "laces" on top of that are almost extraneous, and can tighten the shoe up even more. More comfortable and easier on/off than lace shoes, more secure that slip-ons. Win-win! These shoes have stretchy glove-like fit that is instantly comfortable and without the side-to-side slipping problem, and the insoles don't have that weird heel-bump that the other Merrells did. They are true to size, but are very snug due to the stretchy nature of the upper, and a bit tricky to pull on/off when brand new. I assume I will start needing to tighten the "laces" when they get broken in, but right now they fit comfortably snug even with the "laces" all the way loose. Note: the "mesh" parts of the upper are thicker and more solid than they look in the picture, not like the see-though mesh of a water shoe. They also look great, with a nice variegated dusty gray look and a silvery sheen of the neoprene tongue, with subtle pops of red stitching/lettering that I really like. I am taking these shoes dayhiking in Switzerland in a few weeks, so I will write a follow-up review when I get back.

This Merrell shoe is a great product. The shoe is well made and worth the price. They do tend to run smaller than American standard sizes. For example if you where a 10 D, you might want to order one size larger in length and width.

Wow. My first pair of Merrells, and I was skeptical buying them because I'm a 15 4E. The instep was a little tight, so I started out with a 2.6 mile hike without the insoles in them, then when I was done, they had broken in (though not as comfy with insoles out) I put the insoles in and they now fit perfectly. These things rock. I did a 5 mile hike yesterday and these things are unstoppable. Rock, dirt, mud, gravel, grass, whatever, they swallow all of it whole. Stop thinking, get these shoes. It takes a bit to break them in (if you have a high instep), but it is well worth it. Best shoes I've ever owned.

Merrell always makes a shoe that conforms perfectly to the form of your foot. I love these because I can just slip them on and run. The only problem I had with them was finding somewhere to stuff the excess lace because I like mine tight. These shoes do not have normal laces, it\'s more like an elastic band that you pull tight. It\'s thick and had this plastic clamp attached so stuffing it alongside your heel is uncomfortable. Personally, I found that crossing it over and under the laces on the top of the shoe worked well to secure the excess. Otherwise, good shoe, no repeated tying, just adjust it once and you\'re good until the shoes are destroyed. Long Live Zappos.

I bought these in a size 15. My comments may not be applicable to more common sizes. The shoe looks great and is well made. I've owned Merrell product before and it was very comfortable and durable. However, this shoe doesn't work for me. The tongue is not a true tongue. It's stretchy spandexy stuff. For my size, I found this stretchy tongue too tight. If I try them with no socks, they are pretty cozy. However, no socks is not okay with me.

I bought these shoes for my son and he loves them. He usually wears a 13 but based on other reviews we tried both the 13 and 14, and he found the 14 to be more comforatable. He hasn\\\'t yet had a chance to really break them in, but with camping and hiking ahead it will be a good test. We love Zappos!!

Excellent walking shoe. Made it throughout China, including climbing the Great Wall (the soles have good grip), without a problem or a blister. Easy slip-on and off, so good for (airport) travel, too. They dry fairly quickly and did not seem damaged at all by soaking rain, plus keep a pretty good grip when wet. They are very snug when you first get them but get broken in quickly. Merrell has become my favorite shoe brand, consistent quality and comfort and good fit; plus, they tend to last. Worth the money. I have two pairs of Pivots; I bought a second pair in a different color because I liked the first pair so much, and I couldn\'t find a better other pair of shoes (not for lack of trying).

I have always been a Merrell fan, and have loved the style and comfort of Chameleons for a long time. And now Merrell has really outdone itself with the Pivot model! These are a real find! They are initially a bit tough in that you almost need to use a shoehorn to get into the tops, but that gets better after only a few wearings. But then and more importantly, the shoe is then immediately comfortable. It has great arch support and it cradles the foot beautifully. It has a roomy toe box, great ankle feel, terrific traction, and springy step! I wear these all day (even for hours standing in the operating room) and my feet are so happy these days. And the Pivots look so cool! All three colors are great - I bought the browns and the blacks (which is actually a very dark forest green). And the grays look tempting! Now these do run very small - I ordinarily wear a 9 wide, and I needed 10-1/2 in these! So be sure to order 1 to 1-1/2 sizes larger. I predict this model will be extremely popular for Merrell. Get 'em!

The shoes are nice, but they are extremely tight. Normally I wear a size 10.5 - 11, and these are a size 11, but I actually need a shoehorn to get them on. I debated returning them, and I really should have. I keep thinking they will stretch out, and perhaps they may. It's just a pain to have to grab a shoehorn to put them on. They are so tight that I haven't even tried to wear them with socks. Also, I think the color of the shoe is a bit off. The photos appear darker than reality. The black is really more of a gray (at least with the pair I received). I have a pair of the Merrell Chameleons and they fit great. I like footwear which I don't have to tie such as the Chameleons, and Keen Newports.

I took a Summer job at the Philmont Scout Ranch in Northern New Mexico. I purchased these for day hikes and wear in and around camp. So far, they've been great. They're sturdy and get compliments left and right. The no-lace design is a bit of a pain at first. They took a little breaking in before they stopped bunching up my socks when putting them on. After a week or so of constant wear, they became easy to put on, while still staying secure on my foot during hikes and daily wear. My only complaint is that even after breaking them in over the course of 3 weeks or so, they still feel a little small for size. If I bought these again I would definitely have picked a half-size up. Overall, I'm very satisfied with these.

Best shoe I've had in years.
After being a new balance fan for years, I had picked up a pair of trail boots by Merrell. I liked them so much this winter that I decided to get some Merrell lighter weight shoes for the warmer months. I was concerned because they were a bit pricier that what I am used to spending. Well... they are worth it. Real nice shoe.

Decent shoe - but no Chameleon II -
I bought these to replace a pair of Chameleon II Stretch shoes. Let me first say that these are nowhere near as comfortable as the Chameleons were. After about 3 weeks of light wear they are relatively comfortable now. I have flat feet and wear custom orthotics. I cannot even wear these without the orthotics as there is little to no arch support. The sole and shoe in general is much more narrow than the Chameleons which isn't a problem when I use my orthotics. The shoe is overall snugger than the ChamII and the ankle is not covered. I typically wear a size 11.5 but these fit almost perfect in a 12 (maybe a little snug). I wish I could loosen them up a little. I like the look - the toe area is ventilated well and my feet get a little chilled in cold weather. I would have purchased more ChamIIs but they are discontinued. I asked Merrell about this - they indicated that the Chameleon II Stretch will be re-released Fall '09.

Good Shoes -
If you wear a size 12, you better order the size 13. These are a little on the small side, I kept my 12s, but they were very tight at first. These are mocs (no laces). I didn't know this when ordering, but I like them anyway.

The pivot is kinda hard to get on over your heel, but once you do, its on your foot like a glove. They fit great, are true to size, and are by far the most comfortable shoes if have. i bought them to hike and play disc golf in, but have turned them into an everyday shoe.

Good buy -
Another great product by Merrell! Having owned and practically killed a couple of pairs of stretch chameleons, I wanted to buy my third pair. But guess Merrell has decided to slowly phase out those (I cant find a black Stretch anywhere) and replaced them with the Pivot instead. And what a good job they have done! Good arch support and traction, and feels like a tank (a very light one mind you). Most importantly, its still the most comfortable shoe as all Merrells are, and I am planning to buy a couple more before they phase the Pivot out. Only qualm - the grey looks way better than the black (its not true black but deep bottle green instead), and being a black lover myself, I liked the look of my stretch chameleon. Overall a fabulous buy. GO GET YOURS!!
