Ok, not as stable in the heel as the XT Wings, so good for folks who don\'t pronate. Good lateral stability and protective toe cap. Some people won\'t like the toe cap but it\'s worth it when you bang your toes on rocks. Overall a great trail running shoe. The color mix is strange and even stranger when the shoes arrived, so choose wisely.

Very comfortable right out of the box. Plenty of room in the toe box. Good for light hiking. Only OK for trail running in rocky terrain, could use a little more rigidity in the sole. I like the lace tightening system, but it is difficult to get tight enough for long downhill hikes. The shoe is great for brisk walks with the dog on trails that arent too rocky.

I bought these shoes for a 50-mile ultra. Thus far they have been a severe disappointment. The right shoe has a really stiff piece of plastic that sits right under the forefoot and is capable of producing some quite spectacular blisters after only 5 miles. I've tried every trick out there, extra socks, athletic tape...even duck tape - no dice. Sadly, these aren't going to be used for the ultra if I plan on finishing. I can only assume it's a manufacturing defect because the left shoe doesn't have this problem and I've never had a shoe do this before. Having said that, let's focus only on the left shoe. I run around 50 - 60 miles per week and weigh 135 lbs. I have a narrow heel and kind of a narrow forefoot, which the shoes fit really well. However, the sole is really stiff and seems like it soaks up a lot of force just trying to flex it with each step. Based on that, I'd say it's made for a runner that's a lot heavier than I am. They definitely keep out water and debris and have solid traction in the wet stuff and it's pretty light too. I'm not nuts about the lacing system either. It's easy off, but certainly not easy putting on if you like your laces very tight because it takes a lot of concentration to tuck the laces into the tongue while tightening. Put all that together and I'm stuck with a really cool-looking shoe that I can only use to walk around in the mud and water, but will require little effort to take off when I get home. Sorry, Salomon, you blew it.

30+ miles of hiking with no blisters!
My wife and I were driving to Yosemite for our first-ever back country camping excursion when I realized I forgot my shoes. So we stopped and I bought these (after trying on several other pairs) because these felt comfortable immediately, they were lighter than the others (a huge factor for longer runs/hikes), and the quick lacing system was handy. These shoes got a brutal break-in right away: three days of hiking, 30+ miles of trails, and 14,000+ feet of cumulative elevation change up and downhill - and I'm extremely happy to say, I was about as comfortable as could be expected and never regretted not bringing hiking boots instead. The quick-lace system in particular won my heart because by making lacing/unlacing so easy, it encourages you to take care of sticks or rocks that get in there versus suffering as you might with other shoes because double-knotting is so tedious. This is my first experience with Salomon shoes, and after this, I will probably be a repeat customer.

Great Shoe -
Very light, comfortable running shoe and basic all around shoe with a very convenient lace system. The only negative I have is the color choices, they should make one color plain blue or grey or something to that effect.

Great Shoe -
I purchased the orange pair, and they look sharp! The shoe size is about 1/2 a size larger than the last pair of Salomon's I bought.
The shoes breathe very well, you can really feel it when there is a breeze. The treads on the shoe pick up gravel like crazy, so I recommend avoiding gravel if you are easily annoyed. Running in the shoe is very comfortable for me. I have never owned a shoe that felt better on my back and legs.

Salomon XT Hawk -
I run short distances (2-5 miles) and needed shoes that would withstand not only the running but the overall terrain of a forward operating base in Iraq. This is my second deployment in 2 years and I had an older pair of Salomon's on my last deployment, walking through rock and sand all day long takes a toll on any shoes and Saloman withstood the test of time. These particular Salomon's breathe well which is excellent for the Iraq summer heat.

Great shoe -
This shoe almost ranks up there with the speedcross but not quite. It may once I have run in the shoe a few more miles. Its great out the box. Plenty wide in the fore foot. The cushion is thin but it works as if it were thicker. The interior of the shoe has not ripped like so many other shoes for me. Sharp looking shoe. Nice and light as well.
Other brands recommended by reviewer: speedcross, brooks glycerin, saucony triumph 4 or 6
