My son hates these shoes.They hurt him so much on his first day. He had red lines on his instep because finish of instep parts were not smooth at all. He never had any problem with other shoes before.

Great shoes! My picky 6 year old loves these shoes. He chooses them over sneakers every day. He is very particular about how things feel on his feet and these were definitely a good choice for him. And as usual, awesome service from Zappos.

I have 2 boys who love these shoes. I love them because they are easy for the boys to get on by themselves, they are tough, wear well and look nicer than sneakers.

Great looking shoe for school, but my son found them very stiff and uncomfortable. He refused to wear them (he’s 8) and instead wore last year’s shoes until they wore through to the ground! Luckily, Zappos has a generous return policy so we sent them back. These would work for a kid who can deal with a breaking in period, but not my son.

I get these is a different size every year for my (now) 7th grader. They are the best school shoe around! Easy on and off and they are very durable. Lately he has been growing out of them faster than they are getting beat up!

These shoes run true to size and my 5-year-old loves them. I like the leather ones because they are much more waterproof than the suede ones, though I have noticed that the leather scuffs very easily. Also, on the particular pair that we bought the rubber on the toe began to peel back within a couple of weeks. I\'m confident, though, that these quality shoes will survive until my son outgrows them!

I love Merrells for both me and for my son. They fit true to size and very easy to slip on. However, he only wore them once, (we got a brown leather pair) and I was a little disappointed that he scuffed the toes easily. Not a true scuff of the leather per se, but it almost seems as if the color came off. I am sure a little brown shoe polish will do the trick. My son likes how easily they slip on and off.

Nice shoe. My five year old wears for kindergarten. This was the shoe compromise he agreed to allow him to wear sneakers since I like to alternate between shoes and sneakers! The opening is okay for him but some others may find it difficult to put foot in.

These are the only type of shoes I've bought my active, busy 7-year old since he was 2. They last really well, are a good value compared to other brands, and are supportive and comfortable. We usually get suede, but we got the leather so they would be dressy enough to wear with khakis for a wedding and they looked great!

Best school shoes ever. I bought a pair last year for my second grader and he wore them ALL YEAR. They are his favorite shoes because they slip on and don't have a tie, but they also formed nicely to his foot so are his most comfortable shoe, too. I bought a pair this year for both kids and they wear them at school and for play. The shoes are true to size, super durable and are a much better value than buying several pairs of cheap shoes throughout the year. I can't keep my kids from out growing them, which will happen sooner than them wearing the shoes out. Good thing I know where to buy more pairs! Thanks, Zappos!

Home Run -
My kids love these shoes. I can never get them to wear anything else, so we always have 2 pairs of Merrells going. Also, since "all the kids wear them" they are "cool" too. They are so versatile - on the playground, for PE, yet look nice enough for church. I'm afraid my 6 year old will never learn to tie shoes! They do eventually wear out, but that is expected after daily use. Highly recommended.

Great shoe, but not for kids -
This shoe is a great style, brand, and fit. The reason it only gets 3 stars overall is because after only about 30 days my son in Kindergarten has destroyed the shoe. They have worn around the toe and ankle, I guess because they spend so much time on the floor or playground. It definitely was not a good choice for a school shoe at this age maybe if he was a bit older.

My son has owned many pairs of these shoes. Every time he grows, we get a new pair. They are sturdy, comfortable, and easy for him to put on (he is six). They also fit uniform requirements at his school.

I purchased this shoe for my 5 year old son to wear to school. I myself already owned a couple pairs and my husband always bragged about how comfy his Merrells were. I am not surprised that my son absolutely loves these shoes. Plus they look great with his school uniform. Very comfy and trendy. Can also be worn casually with jeans or dressed up if need be. Merrell continues to live up to their standard of quality and comfort.

Another lady that buys kid's shoes. I put these on and I never wanted to take them off again, they felt that good. However, I'd say they have more than moderate arch support - I have flat feet and these have been the only shoes I've bought to date (including adult Merrels of the same style for some reason) that I didn't have to put new insoles in for added arch support. No complaints here!

Great shoe, mismaked?
I love this shoe -I have a small foot and wear a childrens' 3. I had an identical pair several years ago, and couldn't find them since-then saw that there were 2 pairs at Zappos.These are marked 3 but much larger than my last pair.I'm sure they are mismarked. But I had worn them once, so can't return them. The shoe itself is great, simple styling, very cushiony and comfortable when they are the right size.
