I bought these boots to do a little light hiking on the beaches of the Oregon Coast. Used them one day to climb on wet rocks while looking at tidepools. They were great; didn't slip and didn't get my feet wet. Plan to use them for many of my outings now, including Mushroom Foraging in damp California Redwood country. They are also great around my property while cleaning up slippery slopes! So comfortable and practical.

I have used these shoes for hiking the Swiss Alps for the past three months. They have kept my feet well-protected and completely dry. They fit true to size (9.5). I have also been wearing proper hiking socks with them. There was a very short break-in period and I never experienced any discomfort or rubbing. The ankle support has saved my ankles countless times. And as far as hiking boots go, they don't look too bad. No complaints!

What wonderful boots! I bought them because my ankles were staring to hurt, walking on uneven ground. The amount of support these boots give is incredible. They are extremely comfortable right out of the box, though I highly suggest wearing proper socks with them, like wool hiking socks or even thick cotton socks. I wear these boots whenever I have to be on my feet for a while. Though I should add that I put my own orthodics in due to my extremely high arch, so I can\'t rate the sole that comes with the shoe.

My first pair is a hit!
This is the first pair of hiking boots I've ever purchased. I loved them in the blue/brown but ended up with the green/brown b/c they weren't in stock in my size. We are starting to break them in and they're quite comfortable and fit my orthotics. The looks is great with jeans or shorts. I wear a 9.5 normally in a shoe. For sneakers I wear a 10.5 to accommodate orthotics and noticed that most hiking boots require an extra size normally. In this boot I got a size 11 (shocking to me!) but they fit my orthotics absolutely perfectly. We hiked 4.5 miles on moderate terrain and I felt supported. I kept their "orthotic" which was wimpy but it kept my foot from sliding around in the boot on orthotic. The joy of Zappos is that I ordered these and another boot in multiple sizes and then returned the ones that didn't work. Zappos worked out very well especially b/c the stores do not have a wide variety for women's hiking boots. Free shipping and returns helped!!

Great boots, originally bought them as winter snow boots (live in Chicago). Lasted long, great comfort and support. Really great hiking boots also, even in the summer months.

I have yet to do very much walking in these boots, but so far they seem well-made and sturdy, with an adequately resilient foot bed. As other reviewers have stated, these boots run very small. The measurements of my larger foot, in my usual hiking sox, indicate that an 8.5 medium should be the right size. In these boots, that size left only about half a thumbs width of space between the end of my great toe and the end of the boot. The arch in the foot bed fell behind the arch in my foot. The medium width in an 8.5 was so narrow that it scrunched my little toes under. The size 9 was not quite as bad. The length gave me a full thumbs width of leeway at the end of the toes, but the foot bed arch was still a bit back from my arch and the width was still uncomfortably tight. Thank you Zappos for fast shipping, free both ways! I was able to get a pair in size 9.5 before the deadline when I needed good, sturdy walking boots. That size gives me a little more length than I need, but not so much that I trip over the toes. It places the foot bed arch directly under my arch and is just barely wide enough across my toes so that they dont feel pinched. I will need to saturate the areas that come in contact with my little toes with some shoe stretch solution and walk in them until the saturated area dries. That should make the width at the toes relatively comfortable. The big surprise is that this huge (for me) size fits my very narrow heels like a glove. If I did not have to modify the width with shoe stretch, I could give them a 4-star rating for comfort; if, in addition, the foot beds were a bit more resilient, they would earn a 5-star rating in that category.

The hiking boot fits my somewhat-narrow-heel and higher-arched foot very well. I order half a size up from my dress shoe size to handle heavier hiking socks. The sole of the boot seems to add spring to my step, and the overall support offered by the boot is very good for my feet. They didn't seem to need much of a break-in period. I haven't had the opportunity to test out their water-proof characteristics.

Great shoe!
I usually wear a size 8-8 1/2 but ordered a size 9 in this shoe based on reviews. Am glad I did as the shoe fits perfectly.

These shoes are one of the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. They only came in 1/2 size larger than I usually wear but I took a chance and ordered the larger size. I'm able to wear them with thick winter socks and they fit perfectly. I read the other review and she felt they were uncomfortable after awhile so I suggest ordering a half size larger than what you normally wear. These shoes are already on my favorites list and I have LOTS of shoes.

Wonderful Hiking Boot -
I have a standard size 6 medium width foot but I always go up a half size in Merrell's performance footwear. They also have very good arch support. Great traction & they kept my feet warm but also my feet did not get too hot when warmer. I would really like to have these in BLACK. They do offer that color but only in the UK & Germany at least so far. These are a must have. Zappos is the best!!!!

I bought these for my daughter and she loves them. I'm lucky we are the same size so I can wear them as well. They are very warm and comfortable, fur all the way around the foot. They are also very light weight since they have the crochet sides. My daughter wears about a 7 1/2 and I wear a 7. I bought a 7 and it fits us both just fine.

Great Hikers -
Great tread, but quite stiff. Plenty of toe room for wear heavy socks but the boots themselves are very warm, but are waterproof. With those elements in mind, I'd recommend.

Great support -
I didn't find these to be tight at all (and I have wide, flat feet and wear orthotics). Really comfortable. Great ankle support, which is why I bought them.

Nice shoe with great heel fit (no slip!) and good toe room. But the mid foot right before the toe is really tight for me.

Too tight -
These hiking boots run way too small, and are very tight on the feet.

 | | Thanks so much for the expedited shipping. I meant to have the shoes shipped faster when I placed the order because I want to wear them this weekend, but I forgot. I didn't really worry about it though because Zappos always sends things incredibly fast - I've received packages the day after I placed an order! Zappos is great. The free shipping and fast return make shopping for shoes online foolproof. I know I order more because I know that if I don't like the shoes or they don't fit, I can return them easily and the payment is always credited to my account promptly. Thanks for the great service.
