Sr Trail Runner -
This shoe is marketed as a neutral shoe, which it is not - it is a medial posted shoe - to make this shoe work I needed an orthotic - then it works ok, but the cushioning could be better. I have high arches. Works good on all types of surfaces, but I find the Adidas Response a better shoe for my foot.

TOO SMALL -
I ordered this in a Women's size 8. Which is very roomy for me usually. It was so small I could barely get my foot in. I returned it and got a 9. Put that on and wore for a couple hours and it hurt my feet because it was still too small. I am returning again and thinking of getting a size 10. But that is ridiculous. I'm afraid of getting another style because I don't know at all anymore what my size should be.

Modern Vitesse - Not what it used to be!
I owned this shoe when it first came out many years ago, but the shoe is not the same anymore. First off, I think they changed their sizing scheme. I always wore a 12 in Montrail and just about every other brand, and was lucky enough to find a 12 in my local store. They were very tight. I then found a pair of 12.5 online. They were still small. After trying many other online dealers, I gave up hope that I would find this shoe again as Montrail has discontinued it. I decided to sign up for Zappos service whereby they advise you when your size is available. Low and behold, 3 months later, they had a 13. When I received the 13, I thought a mistake was made because they felt exactly the same way as the 12's. I think they changed their sizing because I have found this with other Montrail shoes recently as well (i.e., Nitrus and Oddessey) Sizing aside, the materials seemed to have changed as well; the new version appears to use lesser quality. On the positive side, the midsole is still nicely cushioned and the outsole rigger is an awesome addition.
I heard that a new version is expected in 9/08. Let's hope they make improvements.

Not what they used to be...
This is my second pair of Vitesses. First pair was in 2004 and I'm disappointed with this second pair. Fit, looks, etc. are all the same, but quality seems markedly deficient. This pair was purchased late spring of this year. I'm a medium build, neutral runner, easy on shoes. They've been worn in rotation with two other pairs of running shoes, very limited miles and already are requiring Shoo-Goo repairs. This is unacceptable. Stitching is coming out, edging tape is wearing through, fit and finish not up to par, also the tongue is not gusseted, which it should be. All in all, I would not recommend this shoe.

Worth the effort of putting them on -
Tough to pull on but once these shoes are "in place" they're as comfortable as slippers ... though much more supportive. I've worn Vitesses for years on various terrains and in diverse climates. They get a little hot in the tropics (and pulling them on/off at airport security is a hassle), but the trade-off is that Vitesses are light and they protect and support my feet on uneven footing.

Have owned 5 pairs of the Vitesse model - unfortunalty the last two have been of this current style and Montrial replaced the canvas loops for the laces with loops of an inferior ribbon type material. The first broke within 3 months of owning the shoe - which Motrail replaced. The second pair lasted longer but the again the loops broke before I was ready to purchase a new pair.

Montrail---how many (yawn)more years of this (yawn) color ?
Anyone else fall asleep when they look at these things?
I've worn this shoe since back in 1999 (or thereabouts) when it came out
aesthetically, the design is impecable...always has been.
yet this colorway is so very uninspired.
---Feels good to get that off my chest

Pure performance and comfort -
I wear these shoes for everything- hiking, biking, basketball, running, table tennis- and they just don't quit! They are durable (I did put a little whole in the mesh, though) and so comfortable. They hold my foot snuggly all the time. I really love them. I just wish they had different color options. Overall the best shoe I've ever worn.

SUPERB -
Honestly, the best shoe i've ever owned. Had one pair for 2 years, wearin' em every day. My dog chewed 2 inches of one of the laces; other than that, still in great condition...goin' to buy another pair.

Montrail Vitesse -
Love this shoe. Second pair of Vitesse I've owned. I wore the first pair for 18 months and loved every moment. Not a huge fan of the new color scheme.

Vitesse -
I've owned the same pair of Montrail Vitesse shoes for almost six years. They're still in servicable condition, despite over 750 miles of hiking. These shoes are built to last and incredibly comfortable.

for very narrow feet -
Very good looking and well build shoe but their sizes are all wrong, after two trials I give up on Montrail. Zappo's return policy is a real blessing.

Hurt 100 -
Great shoe with no gimiks - fits and protects well. Great heel and midfoot support. Out of the box 20 mile Maiden Voyage on HURT 100 trails and I am still walking.

 | | The message I received caught me by surprise, as my expectations are considerably low when it comes to customer service anywhere in the world these days. I read the message and, with a smile, went on with my day. THEN the box arrived Tuesday and it brought back those warm fuzzy feelings again! Not only did I get a nice message saying they would arrive earlier than expected, they arrived the NEXT DAY! I got my MBTs far sooner than I expected! I can't express to you enough my gratitude for being the kind of company that takes the time to care about your customers and follow through on unexpected but greatly appreciated promises! You have a new loyal customer here. I will certainly be singing your praises at work and to everyone else I know! Many thanks, Samantha S. | | ~ Samantha S., September 04 2008
