Have not really tested the shoe yet, but comfy so far.
Hiking shoes are never really "stylish", but these look ok. I have walked a few miles in them just to break them in a bit before going on a long hike i was planning (but never went on) and was pleasantly surprised that the shoes were comfy from the start.

Great for those with narrow foot -
I have a difficult time finding athletic shoes that fit my narrow feet but these shoes fit me perfectly. They do run about one full size small. I normally wear a 9 in most shoes but had to go to a 10 and it fit perfectly. Very comfortable!

Solid Trail Shoe -
Good support. Tight fit - narrow for stated width. Must size up at least a half size if you hope to use thicker hiking socks. But seems to fit well enough to work with a single thin sock, so you could go true to size and wear thin socks.

This is a sneaker -
As other posters have stated, get a 1/2 size larger. Did that and it fits perfect. Like a previous Montrail, the shoes build and construction is great and solid. Feels a little snug but its because your feet are wrapped securely with this shoe. It is extremely comfortable and required no breaking in. The comfort is great.

Montrail Hurricane -
I'm replacing my well loved and over-used Montrail Leona Divides with this shoe and so far my expectations have been met. What was great was ordering the shoe on Saturday and having it at my door on Monday. Outstanding service from Zappos.com.

Great, tough trail shoe -
It fits about a half size smaller than marked, so bump it up a half and you'll be good. Very tough material and performs great on rocky trails.

Good and not so good -
The shoe fits me like a sock. However, the caveat with this shoe is that it is not very soft and so it fits like a hard sock. It's relatively comfortable - I use it to work all day for which I stand and walk about. I was looking for an all-purpose shoe and this fits my bill. It's waterproof and comfortable enough.

Great shoes that run small!
Purchased these for everyday use in New England, where I walk, jog and bike- rain, sleet, snow or shine. I was looking for a pair of lightweight, waterproof shoes that don't look like space ships. These fit the bill pretty well, though I could live without the neon highlights and reflectors. Even so, they still pass for casual wear.
The fabric has a pebbled texture that seems very durable (something that wasn't apparent to me from the online photos). The tongueless, sock-fit adds comfort and the arch support is great. My feet and knees are happy running in these. Tread is good. These won't give you the traction of a Stealth Rubber sole, but they also won't mark up your floors (a win in my book).
All in all I'm very satisfied and would purchase these again.
One thing: Order larger and save an exchange! These run small! I started at 10.5 (my usual size), tried 11, and ended up with 11.5. Follow Montrail's fit guide and you'll be alright.

Hurricane is awesome - But the top eyelets rip off -
This is a great shoe - super traction - I would not wear any other shoe. I wear them all summer to walk 15 miles every weekend no matter what the weather. The fit is great too with very little break in. My only complaint is that those top plastic eyelets rip off so you need to lace it a little lower. But there still great.
Other shoes recommended by reviewer: The only other worthy brand would be merrill - but these fit better.

Most Uncomfortable Shoe...Ever.
After reading excellent reviews here, I decided to purchase the Hurricane XCR but in 1/2 size larger (I'm an 8) as the reviews generally agree that they run a bit small. When they arrived, they still felt an additional 1/2 size smaller. The usual hassle free Exchange (Thanks Zappos!) and soon enough the Size 9's arrived. They felt fine except for the inner forefoot area where they pinched the living hell out of me. There was plenty of toe room, so I decided that, like most shoes, that they would be fine after breaking in. I decided to keep them and wound up taking one for the team. Regardless of how tight or how loose I tied the laces, this shoe continued to bite hard. The more I walked, the worse it got. Wear them for a day. Let them rest. Try them again, nothing. More bite every time...different socks...bite, moleskin...bite. Rest for a few days...worse bite then before. I've never tried so diligently to break in a pair of shoes only to have them actually get worse...and no...I've never had foot problems at all.
To conclude...the Montrail Hurricane XCR is a good looking shoe with excellent breathability and water resistance: all good attributed which went directly down the toilet as soon as I began to walk in them...be careful with this one...though the service and folks at Zappos are great...it may just turn you off to on line shoe purchases as it did me.

Water necessity -
Good shoe. A must if traveling to the tropics during the wet season. They dry fairly quickly but you must rinse them off or they stink after a long day of wearing in the rain or hiking in wet conditions. Initially, they were a little narrow and caused blisters, (without socks) but have since stretched and are fine. Good price too compared to Gore-Tex that isn't nearly as breathable. Glad I purchased them prior to a seven week stay in Costa Rica.

What a shoe!!
So I spend my days running in the rugged mountains of West Virginia. We average ten more inches of rain than Seattle! These shoes keep me dry, supported, and upright through it all. Excellent protection against rocks and roots, they hold well on slippery rocks and moss. The sock like fit keeps you stable. I LOVE THIS SHOE!!! Will never buy a different trail shoe. This is the one!

Even more comfortable than my previous Montrails!
Montrail's are definitely my favorite all purpose shoe. Regular running shoes are too flimsy for my taste and these shoes are perfect for someone who likes the comfort of a running shoe with the stability and sturdiness of a trail shoe. Also, there is no tongue in these shoes which is a big plus in my book because it's one less thing I have to adjust when I go to lace up my shoes and go. These did feel a little bit short in my opinion. I normally wear a 10 and I had to order a 10 1/2 since I am planning on wearing them with socks. Overall this is a great looking shoe that is extremely comfortable and versatile.

Fantastic Shoe -
Wow...this is an amazing shoe. It literally fits like a glove, extremely comfortable, and it breathes! One piece of advice: I can wear anywhere from a 9 1/2 to 10, and had to re-order this from a 10 to a 10 1/2. I recommend going a half size up from what your typical larger sized shoe may be. Oh...and the process to send back the 10 and re-order the 10 1/2 could not have been any easier with Zappos. Free overnight shipping both ways, just print out the label and it's good to go. Love this site.

Have had them for less than a week, but so far they seem to be a well-made, comfortable shoe. A word of warning, however: they are snug around the middle! I haven't found a way to put them on without using a shoehorn. I did try a half-size larger, but then the heel was loose.
Anyway, it will take some time to get used to these compared to my 2002 Montrails that just gave up the ghost. Here's hoping these give me 5 good years, too!

Fits like a sock -
It is a great shoe. I work at a golf course and my feet are wet every day but so far they have held up. The only thing I would mention to a potential internet buyer is that there is not traditional tongue. If you look closely at the photos the shoe fits more like a sock. This makes it a little difficult to get on but once on is very comfortable.

Love these shoes! Just walked in the Lake District in the UK and they were terrific. BUT, be sure to buy at least one size larger.

I cannot believe...
That I keep finding a shoe that's better than the last one I bought. But it's true -- the XCR is lightweight and breathable and it conforms to the shape of my foot. I put 12 miles on them the first time I wore them and it felt like I could wear them forever.

The ultimate terrain shoe -
I live in Chicago and I wanted a shoe for daily extensive walking, running, as well as being waterproof and snow proof. It's almost impossible to find anything like this shoe, and the few that I have seen have been pretty unappealing, looks wise. As far as fit, I wear a 10.5 in Reebok, Saucony, and New Balance running shoes. I needed an 11 in this shoe. Another thing to note is that I have a narrow foot and this shoe fits me perfectly. I would think if someone has a wide foot that they might even go up 2 sizes, as opposed to me going a 1/2 size larger than the shoes I mentioned. It took about 1 day to break them in, as they're a bit stiffer than your average running shoe, but once I walked around for a day or two, they feel great. As a 5 year owner of the Montrail Java which I still wear to this day, I'm hoping for at least 5 years out of this shoe too, which makes the price totally worth it. Montrails rule!

The shoe fits better than any other hiking/running shoe I've owned in the past few years. The heel is rigid and the toe has room to slightly move. Traction on slippery roads is great.

Great waterproof trail shoe -
This is a lightweight, breathable (yet waterproof) running shoe that has a lot of tread. It's my first pair of Montrails and I'm very happy with them. I have a very narrow foot and they still fit very tight which I prefer. If you don't like a snug fit, I don't think this is the shoe for you. I went to REI, tried them on, and then ordered them from Zappos at a better price, no tax, and free overnight shipping! Had them in less than 24 hours. Thank you.

Montrail Hurricane XCR -
I have a longer narrow foot - normally would wear size 12B - at times have worn 12.5 or 13 in athletic shoes to keep from losing toenails - after reading reviews on this shoe I ordered it in 13 and couldn't be happier with the overall fit. The way that the shoe is designed gives a very snug secure feel at the ankle and the shoe is very supportive while giving ample toe room and a fit that has no hotspots. This is my first product from Montrail but won't be my last.

 | | I just wanted to say that I'm most impressed with your company and your customer service. I received my original order yesterday. I had a problem where the wrong shoe was shipped to me. I called yesterday evening and got a very courteous customer service rep. She resolved my problem. I must say, very quickly. When I came home from work this evening, there at my doorstep was my correct pair of shoes from Zappos. I couldn't have been more shocked. I'm pleased to say that I love my new shoes. I will definitely buy shoes from your company again. You have a great selection, policy, etc. Above all, I appreciate how quickly this has been handled.
