THE coat -
I've been searching for a trench like this since last August!! Scoured on-line, department stores, but they were always a bit off, at best. This coat has exactly what I want:
1- weight: light enough for use in a summer storm, but lined and usable at least 3 seasons.
2- color: I couldn't even find the coat I wanted in black, but really wanted a bone or khaki version, and not white, either.
3-length: I wanted some leg protection, but not below the knee. I wanted to be able to sit on something damp, and to walk in rain without being parka-exposed. I didn't want to look naked if I had shorts on under this coat, either!
4-Fabric: I really wanted something crisper and more obviously water-shedding, but if it exists, I didn't see it. This is not as heavy or stiff as a lot of trenches, which was vital. And I didn't want a "slicker" or plastic-y feel.
5-Style: Needed some feminine oomph, but not too much of the ruffle thing. I'm normal-shaped, but you have to be tall and skinny to look good in a hem ruffle. This coat has a wonderful drape and moves when you walk. I took it to Portugal and compared it to the coats on women there, all ages, and didn't covet any of theirs. It looks good belted, or un, another requirement. The neckline is dropped, but the collar stands. The sleeves are full enough to gather nicely at the wrist. The skirt is NOT straight (another requirement) but has inverted (and gored) pleating just sufficient to swing. Looks good at night. Is great on a clear day.
6- Price: I loved one 1200.00 coat, too. But, please. This I was willing to do---NO regrets.
SIZE NOTE: I usually wear an 8 or 10, but got this in a 4, the biggest size it was available in. I could wear it over a sweater, no problem.
