Aside from looks (subjective), this shoe is quite comfortable as an every day office shoe. I have EE wide feet, so finding business-casual work shoes that provides me with all-day comfort is quite next to impossible. These shoes felt at least half size too big, so I returned them and ordered half size smaller. Surprisingly, they were still too big. Zappos has the easiest return process out of all the online stores I shop, so I returned them for the second time and ordered another half size down. I ordered them at 10PM Pacific time and they came the very next morning!!! Holy cow! Very impressed with not only the shoes but Zappos\' commitment to service and customer satisfaction. Thank you!!!

No laces - great shoes, but if the laces break, don't expect to get replacements from Clarks. They don't make them any more.

I just finished ordering another pair from Zappos. I found them to be extremely comfortable and lightweight. They are a little tight on the first wearing but break in after a day. However, I must point out that the soles on these shoes are NOT built for durability and longevity. In fact, the soles on my first pair wore down in 6-9 months, and I don't do much walking since I'm mostly desk bound at work. Nevertheless, after trying various other brands of oxford shoes I'll stick with the Clark's Sphinx Moc toe oxford because of the comfort. By the way, the shoes seem to run a 1/2 size larger than listed. I normally wear a 10.5-11, but I require a size 10 in the Clarks.

Received the shoes in short order thanks to the wonderful customer service of Zappos. The Clarks Sphinx came as advertised. A good-looking, comfortable shoe that fits great. I was so impressed that I ordered a second pair the next week.

The Sphinx was comfortable right out out of the box. The toe space is great, yet the heel does not slip. The only mild complaint so far is that the lines in the shoe sole pick up gravel.

These are great shoes
I'm on my feet all day and these shoes keep my feet from aching and give the best support.

The back of the shoe feels a bit lower than I'm used to. The shoe felt slightly larger in size and width. Just not one of those shoes that feel good the first time you wear them. Installed a pair of thicker insoles and they make the shoe feel a bit snugger.

Very comfortable shoe especially since I walk/run 2 to 3 miles in a day. I am very pleased with this shoe and would recommend it to anyone. I have relatively flat feet and the arch does not bother me either whereas on other shoes the arch is very painful.

These are the most comfortable shoes I have bought in a long time. They give my feet room to "swell" during the day. Lightweight? You bet. Great shoes for casual dress!

I ordered a pair of the Clarks Sphinx to take on a recent trip to France. On the flight over I kept forgetting if I had taken my shoes off or not! They are lightweight, nice looking and above all comfortable. When I returned I ordered a second pair. My only criticism of Zappos - I get the shoes and when they wear out the shoe is no longer made. So I got a second pair for the future. And of course they arrived in 36 hours!

A Lightweight Walking Shoe with Style.
This Clarks shoe actually fits my foot better than the Escalade, which I prized as my best-fitting pair of shoes. I realize a great deal of this is luck, since bespoke shoe making is something most of us will never experience. We all get shoes made according to average foot sizes, and specifications vary from company to company, model to model and even shoe to shoe. But I sure lucked out with this pair. They fit snugly yet feel like a slipper. Heel does not slide side to side or up and down. No weird rubbing or pressure points. Toe box allows secure fit without constriction. On top of that, this may be the lightest rubber-soled lace-up that Clarks makes. It appears to have the stuff to wear the Clarks label, but with even lighter weight than usual. This pays great dividends down the road. As your day wears on, the lighter your shoes, the less fatigue you will experience. Combined with my pair's great fit on my hard-to-fit foot and good support in all important areas including arch and you have a really great everyday shoe. Plus it has better looks than your average pair of Clarks. Looks like a modified classic boat shoe moc profile, with a bit of the Clarks comfort profile built in. A good looker from classic "ugly shoe" maker Clarks.
Other brands recommended by reviewer: Guys, you've found Clarks. You're now officially done with Nike and New Balance as casual shoes. Congratulations.

I have a wide foot but normal heel and it is hard to find shoes that are comfortable. These fit well right out of the box - good roomy toe box, good arch support, good walking shoe. The only thing I don't like (besides the price, but I am just going to be happy with shoes that fit regardless of the price at my advanced age of 52!) is the white stitching on a black shoe. It will eventually all be black from polishing, so what is the point? I only had to order 3 pair (sent 2 back) to get shoes that fit, so Hooray for Zappos!

I am very pleased with my new pair of Clarks Sphinx. As with all Clarks, they are soft and comfortable right out of the box. I will be wearing these shoes on a one week trip to Europe and know that I will be pleased with their performance. You just can't go wrong with Clarks! I found this same pair at a local retail shoe warehouse for about a little bit cheaper, but the store only had the wide width which was not right for my foot. I ordered the medium width from Zappos at 6PM yesterday and received my shoes before 1PM today. Wow! How's that for fast delivery? And the shipping was free! Not to mention that my transaction was tax-free! Well done Zappos! You've got a customer for life! You are setting the standard for customer service.

Another great Clarks shoe. I have worn Clarks for most of my adult life and I have only been disappointed once. At the price, these are a good buy. And Zappos service is the best, too.

Clarks Sphinx -
Beautiful shoes, much, much lighter than usual Clarks. I can walk longer before I begin feeling my feet hot; comfortable yet I´d prefer a little more arch support. Perfect to introduce my own orthotics. Well done Clarks!

Very Comfortable -
I have been wearing the Clarks Naturevelts for quite a long time, but they don't come in brown. So I bought these as I thought that they were the closest brown shoe to the Naturevelt. The size was identical and the shoe is just as comfortable, although it is slightly more casual in appearance. I am very happy with them.

 | | I do not know of any way that you could improve your GREAT service to me unless you personally delivered to my front door. You people are wonderful and I speak of ZAPPOS to everyone, especially the people at the gym where I work out and quite often am asked where I get my shoes. Keep up the service and you have my business! | | ~ Jonathan F., October 15 2009
