Comfortable shoe, very light, reasonably waterproof, but will get wet from snow. Not much support at or above ankle level. Open top won't cinch snugly around ankle without binding at the center lace position across the arch of the foot. The resulting gap between leg and shoe lets in grass, water, etc. Really more of a high-top mountain running shoe than a hiking shoe. Fair edge control and smearing for a running shoe base. (I hiked/climbed with them in the Wheeler Wilderness in late spring snow for 5 days through snow hiking and mixed climbing.)
Other brands recommended by reviewer: Asolo, Lowe, even the Columbia Titanium hiking shoe.

Mailman walks 7-8 hours a day -
In Buffalo weather they stand up day in & out. I have 550 houses per day, 1/2 have 7-9 stairs up & down. These Salomon Fastpackers are light and good for fast movement across all different surfaces, wet or dry. Good fit for me, wide toe box without wide size.

Great Boot! Get It!
Most comfortable boot I have ever had - And VERY light to make that long hike a little shorter.

My boots -
I truly enjoy these boots, as they are very comfortable. I have a couple other pairs of Salomon in the running shoes area, but this is my first pair of Salomon boots and I am pleased with them. We have some serious snow and cold weather in Germany and these shoes are just delivering best comfort and reliability. I like outdoors and all kind of physical activities and these shoes are perfect for my life style.

Great Hikers -
These are great lightweight boots, great for winter. Don't yet know them in other seasons. Nice wide soles for sure footing. Recommend them for women looking for a wider shoe. Fantastic service with Zappos!

This is a great looking shoe. It fit true to size. We purchased it in the black with yellow accent and it's a very cool look.
