Get this shoe while you can -
While I am not a trail runner this shoe is excellent for day hiking. Sadly it is on the endangered list (soon to become obsolete); so get them while you can. They are really great light shoes for hiking in hot weather.

Very light weight. Looks good with both shorts and pants. Easy to keep clean and all day comfortable.

Light as a feather!
Bought these great looking shoes to accommodate my orthotics and they fit perfectly!! Nice snug heel cup and perfectly sized toe box. I've always had trouble finding shoes that don't squeeze my toes together or rub the outside of my foot, so it's refreshing to find a pair of shoes that my feet feel perfectly relaxed in. Along with my orthotics and sorbathane inserts, these shoes make walking a pleasure!! I can't wait to get them off road for a nice long backcountry hike. As usual, Zappos shipped them out lightning fast. Another nice thing is the way there were plastic security bands over the shoe box...A nice little piece of mind that your shoes truly are brand-new. I've ordered from other major online shoe stores and this hasn't always been the case. Thanks Zappos!!!

Everything you don't need. . .
Has been excluded from this excellent shoe. Trail runners are often overtly designed, as if compact dirt is that different from paved roads. I have found this shoe to be well cushioned, supportive, and having great traction from an aggressive, yet rational, tread. The shoe is however, lightweight, low profile and stealthy in appearance. I am sure that the MR873 would be adept for strict trail use, but considering many of us traverse pavement to hit the trail it provides an excellent transition. The only caveat, found in many shoes, is the need for additional space at the instep. Elastic laces help, reducing the pressure on the bones in this area.

Not a cold/wet weather shoe -
Didn’t know it was all porous mesh material; feet got cold real fast on this early spring day; puddles are a no-no unless you like wet socks.

Great Wide sneaker -
This is a great sneaker. Excellent for wide EE. Very lightweight, it feels like you have nothing on. The mesh is great for breathing & ventilation, but sucks for water. Highly recommend for dry areas.

Good fit!
After having some fitting problems with other shoes, I ordered the New Balance MR873 because of its width option. Being somewhat of a finicky shopper I was extremely pleased with this shoe. It is built solid, has an un-fussy style and fits great for the wider foot. It has a mesh opening on the top of the shoe which provides a lot of air flow - which I find pleasing but could be a little chilly for some.

Best sneaker I ever owned -
A great overall sneaker. I use it for walking, mild jogging, and informal wear and have never found a more comfortable sneaker. Highly recommended.

Good, but could be better for the price -
General complaint with New Balance is that shoe widths a narrower than advertised. I wear a 9-4E, but I have to choose the 9.5-4E with New Balance. Full mesh upper body allows lots of air circulation. Other plus to the mesh is that there is no crease or seam line where the toe bends allowing for your foot to bend where your toes are and not how the shoe is made. The arch support could be better. The insole is replaceable, so I'll have to try out some Superfeet Green to see if that solves the problem. I haven't "road tested" these shoes yet, but they seem to have durable stitching and gluing.

Light and as comfortable as feathers -
The shoe feels almost as if you have nothing on. It's very light, breaths, and has a good grip. Feels great running (so far only on hard surfaces).
I saw this shoe in the store, but they didn't have my size (14). I usually wear a 13, but this shoe seemed a bit smaller.

Great Trail Shoe -
These trail shoes have a roomy toe box, is snug around the midfoot due to webbing system and snug around the heel. The profile is lower than a typical running show but slightly higher than Inov-8 310 (the shoe is similar to the 310). There is plenty of cushioning for short stretches of pavement. The rock plate is OK. The tread pattern does retain some mud however it is good on wet rock. An overall great lightweight trail shoe. Would like to see a slightly less profile to reduce chance of ankle sprains on the rocky trails.

Great trail runner -
This shoe is light, provides just enough cushioning (I don't need much) and hugs my foot in all the right places and nowhere it shouldn't. I have also used mine extensively on the road, though New Balance store owners have told me they don't have enough cushioning for that. We'll see... I'm on my third pair and love them!

Comfortable, but not in cold weather -
Very comfy except that there's a big ventilation mesh over the toe area that lets in too much air IMO. My toes get very cold if it's cold outside.

Literally a "cool" shoe.
Spacious for a running shoe (usually buy a size larger for running shoes but these fit to size). The mesh construction is extremely breathable - makes this shoe good for warm weather or anyone with perpetually hot feet - not a shoe that will keep you warm in cold weather. A nice shoe but kind of expensive.

NB 873 -
Good fit & extra light! Feels much lighter and a bit looser than my last pair of NB's, which is a good thing. After wearing a full day my feet didn't hurt from being mushed and cramped. Would recommend to anyone looking for a lighter pair of all-terrain shoes.

I have wide feet and it is difficult to find good looking shoes in a wide width. Most generally they are clown shoes. I love my New Balance, good looks, comfortable and wide. I will buy again for sure!

Best Off Road Shoe Yet!
The previous reviews were spot-on. They do run a half-size narrow, from what I can tell. Off-road performance is excellent - great grip, very light, and the cushioning is excellent for heavier folks like me (250 +). The only complaint (very minor) is that they ARE off road shoes - running on a flat surface lets me feel the rock protection plate in the toe box a little too much. Otherwise, these shoes are AWESOME! I can't wait to really put them through their paces back home.

Didn't last very long -
I was very disappointed with the durability of this shoe. The exterior lacing system on the side of the shoe abraded away very quickly (3 months) from sitting Indian style on pavement. Also, the inside foam (I pronate) compressed very badly after 5 months. The shoe never had much ankle support to begin with. I would not buy it again.

NB MR873 great -
Some of the strengths of this shoe: It breathes better than any shoe I've ever worn due to its mesh uppers. It would not be a cold weather shoe, because you can literally feel the breeze blowing through the shoe! It has great cushioning, the heelstrike is very soft. Nice looks, I hate WHITE shoes, this shoe won't show every speck of dirt.

Swimming in this shoe -
The shoe feels much bigger than the size indicated. Lengthwise it feels almost a full size too large for me otherwise it is a great looking shoe. Support is lacking due to its ultra lightweight construction. I am using it as a weekend shoe now and will stick to NB’s more substantial shoes for performance.

For me, its the off road version of the 1161 - as a 230# runner I appreciate the support and cushioning this shoe provides. Good traction, too! Very ventilated shoe, dries quickly.

Great outdoor shoe.
This is the perfect trail running, hiking, walking shoe. It has excellent traction, is verrry light and breathable, and repels moisture. I do some trail running and hiking and these shoes are the best. They feel good on pavement as well. Shoes really do make a difference in performance and endurance. With these shoes you feel like you can go longer because that’s what they're designed for. So, great performance. Looks wise, this is one of the best looking NB I’ve seen. Sometimes NB can get kind of funky looking, but not these. They have nice shape and a simple sleek feel to them. Very nice. The toe protect is nice as well. Overall, this shoe is exactly what I was looking for. These shoes will keep your feet dry, but not warm because they are very breathable, which is a must in running shoes. If you are considering new running, hiking, walking, etc. shoes, give these a try. Highly recommended. Just make sure you get the right width - felt tight at first, traded them for the next width up and they were perfect. As always, Zappos has incredible customer service and super fast delivery. They continually provide the best online shopping experience. Well done Zappos. Only complaint - didn't have the black and grey in the width I needed, so I got the blue and yellow/orange. Still a nice color, just personal preference. Thanks for reading, hoped this helps.
