Great Midwest Winter Jacket -
Insulates extremely well, totally windproof. Bulkier than the down sweater. Fleece pockets are great. Sweet color combos too. A little less water resistant than I thought it would be so stick to an insulated waterproof piece if you think it might rain. Holds the down in pretty well, have only lost a few feathers at the seams.

Great Jacket for Laundromat Rats and City Folks w/ Umbrellas -
Great Jacket...at first.
My second Patagonia Down and I must say this new 07/08 model is by far the best of the lineage. The fleece lined collar, fleece pockets and snag-proof front zipper makes this jacket by far the best Down Jacket I've owned so far from Patagonia. It is really warm for weight and comfortable (without too much poof) for running around town when temps dip into the 30s and below. I probably won't take this hiking though since the outer nylon shell fabric is NOT waterproof and BARELY water resistant. Which brings me to my negatives...
The outer layer nylon is really cheap and lacks proper DWR treatment. After two wears in New York City the collar on mine, around the fleece, became really brown-black and dirty/oily even though I was very clean and did not sweat since it was in the 30s those days. I also only wore the jacket for the commute to work (40 mins) and back home again. So it is a flaw in the nylon shell fabric. I've owned other similar jackets by North Face (Nuptse), Mammut (Ambler) and Marmot Down and the nylon shells on those brands did not get dirty that fast and the shells layer on those brands Down jacket repelled water far better than this Patagonia Down.
It rained on my way home today during my third time wearing this Patagonia Down and by the time I got home (after 15-20 minutes of direct exposure) my new jacket was soaked inside to the feathers and de-loft during my chilly commute home.
After my first day out with this jacket I would've easily given it 5 stars for warmth, lightness and comfort, but after 3 days of basic use in New York City I'm a little disappointed with the overall quality and rate this 3 out of 5. I would NOT take this jacket camping due to issues with lack of weatherproofing and all that damn dirt that it seems to pick up so quickly!
