The pinnacle base layer?
I can't imagine a more versatile base layer, having tried many different materials and styles. I bought a "small", and it fits my 38" chest, 143lb body just right. I did try to get a long-sleeve CoolMax shirt underneath, but the sleeves wouldn't slide under the R1. As it was, I didn't need the other layer and now that I know how good the R1 feels, I will never try anything under it again. The hood is handy when you need it. Quality is what Patagonia is famous for - excellent. It insulates & wicks as well as I expected, again – excellent.
Other brands recommended by reviewer: Marmot Zeus down jacket.
