These boots are great. I am replacing another pair of hi-tecs that I wore for 10 years. Order a half size up and then get an extra insole to stick in them for more arch support. I normally wear a 9. I ordered a 9.5 in these and have plenty of room for the insole and cushy socks.

I really love these hiking shoes! My family and I bought these prior to a hike "down" Loon Mountain in NH. They were "so" comfortable. I was worried about blisters, and there was none. We did not get a chance to break these in, but we did not need to! They were "nice looking", too, so my 14 year old willingly put these on, too!

I am really happy with my new hiking shoes. My old (20 yr+) pair were also Hi-Tec, so I wanted as close to the same pair as I could get. After wearing them on two twenty-mile and up hikes, one over 4000 feet altitude, I have to report that the new pair perform even better than the old pair. They are so comfortable and fit so well on my REALLY wide feet that I have to admit they feel like bedroom slippers on a long hike. Thanks Hi-Tec for making lower cost but still terrific hiking shoes.

Hi-Tec Outlander -
This looked like a good hiking shoe and got some good reviews, but when I tried it on, it was too small. I'm usually a 9 or 9.5. I ordered this one in a 9.5, and guess I should have got a 10.
It felt comfortable for my feet, just wearing for a minute, but the ankle part was too tight and uncomfortable. Not even laced up. And I don't have thick/wide ankles.

Good boots -
After trying and failing for quite a long time to find the right boot, I finally remembered a favorite pair of Hi-Tec boots I owned about 20 years ago, and decided to try on one more pair. They are wide enough for my Birkenstock-indulged feet, not criss-crossed with neon or silver stripes to cater to my less than current fashion sense, and inexpensive enough to make me feel less guilty for buying new boots. And Zappos sent them in an astonishingly short amount of time. What more could you ask for? I put some Superfeet insoles in them, and am now ready to hit the trails.

Comfy at first, blisters in 15 minutes -
These were very comfortable when I tried them on, and I was happy to find a hiking boot that wasn't exorbitantly priced. Unfortunately, I got blisters at the backs of my heels within 15 minutes of easy walking over flat ground. Maybe it's just my feet and these particular boots; I haven't had this problem with other boots. I was really disappointed, because they are cute and affordable!

Not a good fit for larger sizes -
I was very disappointed with these boots...they look great, but once I tried them on (with regular socks, not even thick boot socks) they were very tight and very inflexible---not like I'd hoped. The laces don't hold tight---once you pull them tight, they don't stay---and there seemed to be zero arch support. I also found that the top of the tongue barely fit inside the shoe once I laced it up. A lot of people have said these are comfortable...maybe it's a difference in size (I wear a 10) or maybe they had different expectations...a lot of people confuse a tight boot with a good-fitting boot. I, however, was really disappointed.

Very Comfortable!
I have been looking for a comfortable boot for the past 3 years with no luck until I bought the Hi-Tec Outlander. They are without a doubt the most comfortable boot I've ever owned!!!

I really love these shoes. I have a wide foot and these shoes have plenty of room and good support for walking. I would recommend these hikers to anyone who wants a good sturdy shoe for walking in rough areas.

Love These!
I got these for hiking and rock climbing in the mountains and they're great! The treads are soft enough to grip, not slip like harder treads. The back is low enough and doesn't rub my ankle, but high enough in front for support. The toe box is roomy, and I have wide feet. The sole could be slightly more cushioned, but they are really very comfortable. And, the best part... they are really cute!

Fully adequate for the price, but not a lot of cushioning.

Great Boots -
Boots are very comfortable and don't need to be broken in. My size was too snug with midweight socks, so I returned them for a half size larger; just right now! Fairly lightweight and very attractive!

Hi Tec Hikers -
I had purchased a pair of these shoes back in 1992 and I wore them forever. Finally, last year (2005) they gave up the ghost! In fact, I knew they were on their way out and sure enough they fell apart as I was walking home and i had to buy a replacement pair. My daughter urged me to buy Doc Maartens. Which I did. I hated them. I am so happy I finally replaced my Hi Tecs with a new pair of Hi Tecs.
Other brands recommended by reviewer: I also like Born brand shoes, and Rocket Dog for a lower end shoe

Satisfying Purchase -
Purchased for New England walking tour and they did fine. Laces tended to come undone at the ankle and tying tight to avoid this caused slight irritation. However, overall the shoe was comfortable and gave great support.

Nice boot at reasonable price -
I've had this boot before (repeat customer) and find it a good buy. This time when I went looking for hiking boots, I was astounded at how much money you could spend! I was glad to re-find these boots.

I LOVE these boots!
Today was the first day I wore these boots since I've gotten them.
I wore them all day and didn't even think about my feet, they were so comfortable! I recently sent back a more expensive pair that I had ordered from another company because the fit was too wide.
I love the looks too as I have large feet for my height and they make my feet look smaller!
