Overall a good shoe -
I am happy with my purchase of this shoe. Although I have purchased many New Balance shoes I can see where some people may find it slightly shorter than what they might normally expect. I also agree with the reviewer who stated that the tongue seems too short, barely long enough to properly tie the shoe. Another thing I found was that the shoe is high on the sides and sits right under my ankle bones to the point that I feel it and is somewhat annoying (this no doubt will go away once I break the shoe in and become used to it). All in all however I am happy with it and would recommend it.

Perfect fit, perfect service -
The New Balance walkers, MW965, fit perfectly - snug at the heel with adequate room at the ball and toe. The size, 11, was true. These shoes were comfortable right out of the box with no break-in period required.
Zappos had them in my hands three days after I cut the order - I wish every mail order enterprise could figure out Zappos' business model.

I have worn New Balance for many years. I have had foot surgeries plus many inherited foot problems. I am on my feet all day at my job. Couldn't do it without my New Balance collection of shoes.

Nice shoes. Sturdy construction. The tongue seems to be a little short for me. The laces sometimes fall behind the tongue. Top eyelets make it more difficult to lace tightly.

Great Shoes but a Little Hot for Summer -
Purchased these for an Ireland Scotland trip. The waterproofing and comfort should work fine. In breaking them in though they make my feet very hot (about 90 here) so I would not recommend them for a lot of summer use.

My husband generally wears a 10 1/2 wide, we bought these 11 triple wide and he loves them except for a squeak when he walks across tiled floors. So, I'm marking them smaller in size and width. They look good, too!

Find of a Lifetime -
I have searched a long time for this type of shoe, and to my utter delight, found it at Zappos! Other online sites could not fill the order because of the extra wide (4E) width I wear. New Balance has done it again with a comfortable, well made shoe. I primarily will use this item as an alternative to a full hunting boot. Zappos delivers with their fast delivery service, and no shipping & return fees.

Good shoe, but not waterproof -
I bought these shoes thinking I was getting a good waterproof walking shoe. I found out the first time I used them that they were not even close to being waterproof. Even a moderate amount of dew on the grass will eventually soak through. Other than that, the shoe is a good dry weather walker.
Other shoes recommended by reviewer: Go with a Gore-Tex shoe if you want waterproof.

Nice Shoes -
These shoes are comfortable and required no significant break in period. They felt narrow when first put on, but stretched to a comfortable fit within two wearings. I walk a lot (one hour per day) and these shoes are very comfortable and caused no blisters or irritations.

Very Comfortable Shoes for Walking -
I walk a lot and have narrow feet, but comfortable shoes are to find. These are great. They are a bit heavier than the lightest sneakers, but it's worth it because of the excellent support. Waterproof is good too. Highly recommended.

I've been wearing a pair of NB 608s for the past several years and have been reluctant to buy a replacement pair since the 608s have been such a great shoe! However, I wish I had given in a bought these shoes much sooner. The 965s are everything I love about the 608s and more. Plus, when the weather is nasty I can wear these shoes to work (casual office environment). My only observation is that I had to go a 1/2 size larger than my beloved 608s however Zappos made the exchange process ever so painless!

I'm very happy with the shoes and the service I received from Zappos. They expedited the shoes at no extra charge, and were exactly what I wanted. This is an excellent walking or hiking shoe. The traction is great.

Super comfortable. Very Light. At 12B it looks a little long and boaty but I'm stuck with that. I needed it to work in all day and still have somewhat dress look esp. with shorts.

I read all the reviews and followed the general opinion to order these wider and they fit perfect. I ordered them in the EE and they were perfect. They are slightly waterproof and still breathe. Great shoe to combat the morning dew and still keep the feet cool in the summer.

Tested shoes in high wet grass (firm sandy ground) with fresh pair of clean dry socks. After 15 min. walk had wet toes. Water came in through top of toe box. Waterproofed with mink oil. Shoes now are darker and look better in my opinion.

Awesome shoe.
I was expecting a well made and comfortable shoe. I've been pleased with New Balance shoes in the past. I was not prepared for the superior build quality, fit and comfort of the MW965. The best I've ever worn. No kidding. And I'm 63; I've worn a few shoes. Some details I like: instead of eyelets, the top two levels of laces go through smooth metal guides which make the laces very easy to tie, and I only need to untie the shoe to be able to slip it off. It's not necessary to unlace at all. They are on the heavy side for a walking shoe, but the waterproof build and seeming bullet-proof construction make the extra weight worthwhile. I have quickly forgotten the weight because these shoes are so cushy and comfortable. They're the best! Oh, and they have a wide toe box which is crucial for my comfort.

The shoes are narrower than sized. But I knew that going in because of the reviews. I have a fat foot and have a hard time buying shoes so I got the 4E’s. They fit well. I really love the shoes. They are very comfortable and great for walking. They also look great!

Love these shoes. Comfortable right out of the box. Size 15ee hard to find. Typical Zappos delivered them to my door within 48 hours for FREE. (Love that)
I'm a really big guy, 6'5 and well over 300 pounds. Basically a big ole tub of goo. I suffer from Plantar Fasciitis in my right heel. Very painful but these shoes really helped me out.
Great padding. Like another poster said they are a little bit warm but not too bad. I wear them to work (casual dress) and sometimes slip them off in the afternoon for a few minutes.
Seem to be well made and they are waterproof. Again, I'm very happy with these.

Most of the reviews I read were "dead on". I should have paid more attention to the width section. It definitely is narrower than marked. I don't know if ordering the next wider width would be too wide, but I am getting along with it. Once it's on it feels great. Very comfortable to walk in and stand in all day.

You can't have it all!
I’ve had these shoes for about four or five months.
The good:
1. Good winter shoe for rain and snow (nothing extreme).
2. Look good.
3. Good durability for daily walking (again nothing extreme).
4. Never had water enter the shoe.
5. Good traction
The bad:
1. The shoe does not breathe.
2. Long break in period.
3. Expensive.
4. Fairly heavy.
5. As soon as I get home from work I put on my Asics walkers.
Bottom Line:
This is a good product for daily walking in cooler and wet environments you may encounter. They are comfortable, but there are shoes that are much more comfortable and lighter. Softer leather would have made it perfect. I like to move my toes freely.
