GREAT ALL PURPOSE HIKING SHOE, A Second Look -
My shoes arrived about 22 hours after I ordered them online. Amazing Zappos service again. My old Salomons had worn out and I was hoping to find an equivalent shoe. My old ones were the most grippy, rugged, firm soled shoe I had ever owned. The new Rivertrek Mid Gtx shoe was very comfortable from the first time I put it on. I always have problems with arch support, so I headed down to a shoe store that specialized in running shoes and accessories and purchased some arch support insoles. Now the shoes are very comfortable and almost feel like house slippers. The shoes are too light for serious jagged rock trails, but are a great all around hiking shoe. I am an outdoor photographer and have to walk on a wide variety of surfaces from jagged rock to soft marshy areas. These shoes are great for most surfaces. They feel very light and comfortable. I have no complaints about these shoes and they are perfect for 95% of what I do. I have not tried the shoes in the water yet, so I can’t comment of the waterproof qualities.

GREAT COMFORTABLE SHOES!
These shoes arrived at my door about 22 hours after I ordered them. Thank you Zappos for your absolutely amazing service. I haven’t tried these in the wet yet so I can’t speak about their waterproof quality, but I found these shoes to be quite comfortable from the first time I put them on. I always have a problem with arch support in any shoes that I buy so I usually go immediately down to a shoe store that sells shoes and accessories for runners and buy a good arch support insole. That solves my problem. I did that and these shoes feel like house slippers. Very comfortable and they didn’t require any break-in time at all.
I am an outdoor photographer and I sometimes have to walk on trails with sharp jagged rock as well as wet marshy areas. I need a good stiff sole that won’t flex a lot especially when I am walking on sharp rocks or on a slope. My last pair of Salomon’s was the greatest I have ever had for that kind of thing. I don’t remember the model and they are discontinued now anyway. I was hoping for the same performance. These are not quite as rigid, but so far have worked out very well. They have good grip. I am quite satisfied with the Rivertrek Mid Gtx shoe.

So Comfortable!
If you want to go on a walk about, then these are what you want to purchase. They are very lightweight, have great support, you won't know you’re even wearing shoes! I will be purchasing more shoes from this company!

Very comfortable -
The Rivertrek boots are very comfortable. I bought them because they’re similar to the discontinued Salomon Extend Mid XCR that I had been wearing, which were the most comfortable boots I’ve owned. The Rivertrek do not fit as snugly around the ankles or are as easy to lace as the Extend. The Rivertrek fit the same in the toe and heel as the Extend, which is what was most important.
The Rivertrek also looks to be more durable. The sole looks more solid and the lace loops are made of webbing. The leather lace loop on one of my Extends broke. I no longer wear heavy boots for backpacking. These light hikers are the way to go no matter what the guy at the outdoor store says.
