Ready to wear out of the box -
I wore these for a full day of work without breaking them in, and my feet felt fine afterwards. It's a nice-looking shoe, and I especially appreciate the fact that it's available in extra wide sizes.

Looks better than it feels - I lost money on this purchase. I have worn Rockport in the past and they have proven to be comfortable, but not this time. I don't know why, but I cannot wear these shoes. They seem to be comfortable when I put them on, but after just a short time of wear they cause my feet to hurt and my legs to feel tired. I thought I just needed to break them in, but I have returned to wearing my old shoes and my new shoes are sitting in my closet. I would not purchase another pair of these shoes. I was very impressed by the quick delivery and service of Zappos but very disappointed in my shoes.

My husband wears a very wide shoe, and it's difficult to find shoes for him. I remembered about Zappos on-line ordering and thought I would try it. I'm always reluctant to order on-line, but I will definitely use ZAPPOS again. Turn around time from ordering to delivery was super. A lot of choices too...

Balanced dress-shoe.
I bought this dress shoe the day before a consulting interview. My purchase was made in a brick-and-mortar store, not on Zappos.com.
The "Ellingwood" is a solidly built shoe, comfortable and built to last a few years. I tried on a few other dress shoes, Johnston & Murphys, Kenneth Coles, and Bostonians, many more than 2 or 3 times the price of this shoe, and ultimately, the salesperson recommended this Rockport model. Once I put it on, I knew that I was going to buy it.
The rubberized sole cushions each step nicely, especially on New York City's unforgiving cement sidewalks. True to form, the shoe wicks away moisture on rainy days, making it a great all-weather shoe. However, as other users have mentioned, the weatherproof design insulates this shoe, making it very hot to wear during the humid summer months.
If you are not a shoe connoisseur and just want a beat 'em up shoe to wear to the occasional dress interview, this is the shoe for you. Alternately, if you are a shoe snob and want a "beater" to wear during inclement weather, this is a great bargain buy. Rockport shoes are owned by Adidas Ltd. AG, meaning that most Rockport shoes are designed for durability and dependability, not on sleek fashion. If you are looking for a "fashion shoe" to turn heads, look to Ferragamo. If you are looking for a reliable shoe that does what it says, go for the "Rockport: Ellingwood".

Poor Rockport -
I'm a Rockport fan, normally the most comfortable shoe made. I realized now that their dress shoes are not so good. Pressure on top of foot, loud squeak when walking, run tight, poor circulation and feet get hot. Rockport has the best casual & business casual around, no question. The dress shoes probably could get out of that line of shoes in my opinion. Be careful in buying their dress shoes as they seem to have the same negatives as the Ellingwood.
Honest input from someone who is not that picky.

These shoes are great!!
I bought these for my husband for Fathers Day. He has had the Rockport brand before and just loved them. For the first few days of wear he said they were a little stiff, but they are fine now and have stretched out and are now quite comfortable.

Comfortable dress shoe - Not an oxymoron anymore - This shoe is simple in its design to such an extent that it achieves elegance. One reason I dread formal events is the discomfort caused by most dress shoes. Not these! No one will ever suspect how good my feet are feeling when I wear these! I wish they didn't squeak on marble floors, though. A definite BUY!

These shoes pinch the small toes when walking to the point of being quite painful by the end of the day. This is my 4th pair of Rockports and I've been very pleased until now.

Great work shoe.
If you work around water and dirty locations bit want a formal good look then this shoe is for you. Just wipe it off and it looks like it was just professionally shined. Very comfortable for long times on your feet. Will replace when the time comes with another pair. I have both colors.

Sweet Comfort -
I have tried many other shoe brands and nothing fits like a Rockport. This particular Rockport has been the most comfortable for those folks who have a wide foot. It has full support and snugs to your feet for a heavenly feel.

A very nice shoe, I had to add another insole to it to get it to fit, but I have very narrow feet and that is nothing new to me. I did get the narrow one too. I'm on my feet for 10 to 12 hours a day and I still feel good at the end of it. I recommend the shoe to anyone that is looking for a nice dress shoe.

This shoe was perfect for my career. Easy styling, good comfort for lots of walking, and a very reasonable price. But Zappos made it the sweetest shoe. I ordered at 10:20pm and when i arrived home next day at 5:30pm, the shoes had been delivered. And free postage. How can you go wrong?

Great shoe all around. I purchased in advance of business trip to D.C. because with the amount of walking I needed something comfortable/durable and that would go well with a suit. This shoe accomplished my goals...and at a price that didn't break the bank (utilized the price matching option as well). What's even better, I ordered the shoe the Monday afternoon before having to leave on my trip (the same Friday) and had the shoes the next day. For these reasons, I continue to choose Zappos.com when purchasing new shoes.

The Ellington was painful to break in. By the end of a 3 day trip - I could hardly walk. My last pair (the model this replaced) were ready to wear out of the box. Not sure where Rockport went wrong with this shoe.

This shoe has a Blucher design which adjusts nicely to the width of the foot for a good fit. This works great for my husband whose feet are different widths. This is a very nice looking shoe, and he has found it to be more comfortable than the Eccos he's been wearing for years, at about half the price. Zappos customer service was amazing at helping pick this out, it was just what I needed. Kudos to them!

The shoes are soft and comfortable. I normally don't like rubber soles on dress shoes, but rainy Oregon necessitates a waterproof shoe for all the rain in the fall and winter. They don't breathe as well as I would like, and they can get hot, but that's a waterproof (resistant) shoe for you. I’m pretty happy with them overall.

Poor - Read This...
SQUEAK, SQUEAK, SQUEAK, SQUEAK... I’m a fan of Rockport, but they need to get out of the dress shoe business. I tried a pair of their dress shoes a year ago, same major squeak problem. I had thought maybe it was the rubber on the floor. Nope, as on carpet just as bad. They squeak so loud that they are literally un-wearable. Rockport is THE best with casual, business casual, boat shoes etc... but something about a certain type of leather they use on the more dressy shoes or those that carry a bit of a shine makes them squeak badly where it calls peoples attention. You've been warned!

Outstanding Dress Shoe!
I've come to a place that I will only wear Rockport casual, business casual, boat, dress, etc... This model dress shoe I wear with business suits to work. Very traditional look, holds a great shine and these non-skid soles are a newer type that look just like leather soles from the outside thus dressy enough for a suit without question. The original dull rubber, spongy soles were/are good, but take away from the polished look. These require almost no break in period, quality leather & very well made shoe. Extremely light weight and feels like you’re walking in a sneaker. Must buy & Rockport, keep this dress shoe style coming with this type of sole.

Not true to size -
I usually wear a 10 wide (WW) and ordered this
shoe in the 10 1/2 WW, figuring that it would fit
freely, which is what I was looking for. The 10
1/2 WW was too narrow/tight, sent it back when I
found a 10 4W, the last one left, and it was wide
enough and fits just fine. Very comfortable shoe,
good support, looks nice and bends/creases back at
the laces, just right. I would have preferred a
10 1/2 4W, but that is just how the shoe is made.
