I have had several pairs of Five Ten shoes over the years, including the Guide Tennie and another freerunning shoe. All of these have served me well for their intended purposes. As I was in need of a new set of light hiking/approach shoes, I again turned to the wunderkind at Five Ten to solve my needs with the Camp Four. The nature of my work takes me from places like Afghan mountains to third world cities, so I need a versatile, yet rock solid shoe. The Camp Four does it all for me. Light and comfortable, the Camp Four provides excellent support throughout the heel area with the exoskeleton like support structure. The sole is firmer and more protective against rocks and sharp surfaces than something like a trail running shoe, yet required next to no break in. If you are looking for a low top approach shoe, I feel you will hit the apex with the Camp Four. Look no further. I cannot wait until Five Ten releases the new Pursuit boot, so I can flesh out my hiking needs with a mid top boot. Zappos again proves that it is the finest vendor of footwear on the planet. I cannot recommend their business enough.

The Camp Four is fantastic. It's comfortable to wear loosely in the urban jungle. I wear them to work in NYC and on a trip over the weekend sightseeing in Boston. But more importantly, they snug down perfectly for the trek into the crag and the 5.10 rubber does everything it's supposed to do on the rock.

Took them on a weeks backpack trip right out of the box. UPS to the trail never wore them before that. Week long trip with 3 days of serious cross country and rock scrambling. One day we hiked 26 miles. Epic. The shoes performed perfectly. The C4 rubber was like I was wearing my climbing shoes. I was safe and secure while my partner was struggling. She was wearing another brand of approach shoe and slipped often. She actually fell a few times due to slippage. I got no blisters. That is a first for me. Best hiking shoes I have ever owned to date. Highly recommend them. Buy big enough to allow for foot swelling and to keep your toes from hitting the end while carrying a heavy load down hill. Bought the girlfriend a pair before this weekends 4-day outing and they worked excellent. Big difference over her other approach shoes. We are both happy hikers.

I love the shoes! I destroyed my trail shoes in Costa Rica and was on my way to Yosemite for some climbing and knew that I needed something solid for my bad ankle. The UPS guy showed up, I threw the box in my car and, knowing it was a big risk, headed to Yosemite without even trying them on. The previous reviews were right on about the sizing and they fit perfectly. The slabby approaches would have been murder on my ankle without them. They are supportive, sticky and very comfortable. Truly fantastic shoes. I may even switch my climbing shoes to Five Tens after my experience with the Camp Fours.

Five Ten shoes are built for the long haul. I own 12 pairs and started buying them over 15 years ago. I have yet to wear any of them out except for my original Extreme boots that I wore for years climbing limestone bluffs doing rattlesnake research. My snakeproof chaps finally rubbed a hole in them. My Echo boots have withstood over a decade of similar use as well as walking the Longleaf pine forests of the South searching for Eastern Diamondbacks. These Camp Four shoes are certainly as bombproof and fit true to size. The stable heel and good support seem naturals for rough terrain. I have not taken them into the boonies yet but see no reason why they will not hold up like all of my other Five Tens. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

Absolute perfect approach shoes. Climb spectacularly (I regularly climb 5.6/5.7 in these with no problems) and are really comfy. They do wear out fast though, which is expected with sticky rubber.

Camp Four review by climber -
One big word STICKY...if you are looking for an approach shoe that doesn't slip the Camp Four is your man! It is really comfortable and gives a great support. I never had the same feeling with an other shoe; you are so in control when you are walking on steep ridges and trails!

Initial Impression: Out of box these fit like a glove. I took the advice of other reviews and ordered 1/2 size larger, and they are perfect. Took them a 3 mile hike with approx 1200' of vertical up and back. The trail varies from sandy loam, hardpan, Adirondack muck, and exposed granite. The soles are stickier than I anticipated, these things are like glue! Well, as I said this was an initial impression, I will continue to post my experiences. C

I have had these shoes for a little over a year and I still love them. I have worn them while backpacking on Superstition Mountain, and all over Red Rock Canyon. My brother and I refer to them as "super feet", because of the way they stick when scrambling. They're awesome! Make sure you go a half size up though.

Sloppy fit for an approach shoe -
This shoe has some potential, but only if you enjoy having your feet look wider than reality and not using them for any kind of bouldering/climbing. They have a sloppy, beefy fit. I tried these and the similarly styled Insights (in the same size) and these felt about 1 size larger in length and width. The aggressive tread is nice, but they are way too box for use once you reach the rocks. If you like this style, try the 5.10 Insights instead for a better fit.

Very pretty boot. I tried this on with white tube socks and still felt comfortable. I only have one regret; my calf was too large to zip the boot to the top. I had to send my cute boots back.

5.10 CAMP FOUR -
Great shoe! Comfortable right out of box and a great lacing system that doesn't become untied.
Only thing I added were my own insole inserts. The factory ones were okay, but not great.

5.10 #1 -
This is a great shoe and the third pair of 5.10s I own. The only negative "mark" I can give is they will put black marks on floors.

Perfect Fit -
I was looking for a quality hiking/walking shoe that I would be as comfortable walking around a park or hiking in the back woods. This shoe fills the bill. From the second I put it on it was a great & comfortable fit and I would recommend them to anyone.

Great hiking shoe for rocky trails -
I use this shoe for day hikes on rocky trails and they work wonderfully. The fit is as good as it gets, which for me is a bit of an anomaly, and makes hiking over rocks great as there is no unnecessary heal lift on the ascent or toe mashing on the way down. I wasn't overly sure of the whole "external heel cage" concept at first but have found it to work very well; there really is a great deal of support on these. This is the first shoe I've been able to wear on rocky trails; in the past I've always used some sort of light boot to get the extra support (I broke my right ankle years ago and since then have wanted the extra support now for anything with a pack on) but find these to work well even with a daypack. The rubber sole is standard 5.10: very sticky and grippy, which on rocky trails, is great. About the only thing they're missing is an eVENT or XCR lining (or other flavor) to handle the wet weather as the soles definitely handle wet rocks. Even with this they're still great for me; we typically have great weather for day hiking so if the lack of the waterproof breathable liner isn't huge. Overall, these work great for day hikes on the rocky stuff.

All signs point to a winner -
I'd give the shoe 5's across the board, but they arrived with blemishes on them that just shouldn't be present on a pair of shoes that are positioned as 510 is. Colorbleed and gluesmears - not to cool. But hey, they fit great and wear well and I do love them for that. Heel cup system is tasty for me. Extra eyelet/expanded control on toe-box is also quite tasty for me.
My first pair of 510 shoes, probably not my last but the craftsmanship is a bit of a buzz kill- hope they wear well.

Great Shoe sticks to everything. Perfect for bouldering, mild rock climbing and pakour. These shoes did take a few days to get worn in but after that they are amazing. REMEBER: WIll MARK UP ANY FLOOR AND IS A PAIN TO REMOVE SCUFFS.

Great comfort -
This is a comfortable shoe and very stable. Downsides are that it's a little beefy for an approach shoe and the stealth rubber wears out super quick. If you have the money, it's a sweet ride!

Best shoe -
This is the best shoe I have ever owned! I have trouble with lower back pain and have shoe inserts that I have to wear. But with this shoe I need no inserts, the arch support is amazing. The support in the heel is also great. These shoes have excellent grip for free-running, climbing or just everyday use. It is light and comfortable like a running shoe, but also has the support of a boot. Zappos has excellent customer service and the shipping is very FAST!

Camp Four -
This is a great shoe. I actually do wear it on approaches and have found it to wear well and the rubber sticks to everything.
However I typically wear a ten and a half but purchased a ten and it fits perfect.

 | | I just placed my order last night. I expected my order to arrive sometime between Sat. and Mon. or Tues. I was very surprised when I received an email telling me my order priority had been moved up just because you appreciated my business. Well, I have to say the very same to you. I received my order today. It was a pair of shoes for my son. He was so excited when he saw the UPS truck outside of our house. Again thank you all so very much! Keep up the excellent service!
