I play Platform Tennis throughout the winter and need good grip, comfort, and support. 803s do it all. And you look like the coolest guy ever in these babies!

This is a great tennis shoe! I had been suffering foot problems such as plantar fasciitis and arthritic-like pains. These shoes felt good from the start and after playing tennis in them for several weeks my foot problems have abated.

There are not a lot of court shoes designed for folks like me who are medium-heavy (6' - 205lb) and have medium-wide feet (E or EE). These shoes provide plenty of lateral stability for playing ball, and are fairly comfortable off the court. My only nitpick is that they get hot quickly - that's the inevitable downside to having lots of stability padding. Now, if New Balance would only keep their lineup stable so that we wouldn't have to keep finding new shoe models each year...

New Balance is my choice brand having EE width. I rotate three pair and like them all. I do replace with inserts immediately.

This is my 3rd or 4th pair of these. Very good shoe for handball...Good cushioning, stability, arch support, traction, and durability. Several of my friends use them as well.

Watch your backside!
New Balance has been a good provider for years. Very sad to see them slip in attention to product quality. 803's have a design deficiency. Thin rear outside sole that after a few hard matches will land you on your rear as slick plastic comes in contact with the court. I also tried the 654's and found the metal you lace through had been removed (vs. 653) so the laces pull through the "leather" in the hole below the top (Runner's knot) holes. Happened twice. Guess we need to pay attention to the design more when purchasing or look for alternatives. Again too bad, they had produced nice-looking, comfortable, capable (for reasonably skilled players who play hard) shoes.

I love New Balance shoes, but these are the exception. I play a lot of tennis and bought these because I have wide feet and love NB. I have to say that I really do not like these shoes. At first I thought they just needed breaking-in, but I have worn the sole thin and they are still uncomfortable and stiff. They feel like they have no give and will not bend easily, which, while supportive, don't allow for quick direction changes. I am now looking for a lighter, more flexible shoe even if I have to give up some side support.

The tennis shoe is very comfortable, but has not helped my tennis game. I guess I cannot blame the shoe!!!!!

Great shoe but...
I have narrow feet and this shoe for tennis is great. I have now gone through two pairs of these shoes and I am very happy with their performance.
There is one caution which needs to be made; I found out the hard way I had worn through the sole. While playing I did a quick change of direction and found myself on my butt. It felt like I had found a stick on the court and rolled on it. There was no stick. What happened was that I had worn through the sole to the midsole. The midsole is slippery.
When the sole is thin its time to replace the shoe.

Tennis shoe -
I have a narrow foot but usually NB mediums fit fine. I was a little hesitant that it may be too narrow but it fit fine. I've been pretty pleased with NB and have several pairs but needed one specifically for Tennis for better lateral stability.

When my MIA Suri cork wedge arrived today, I gasped at the extreme height of the shoe!!! But I must say, they are incredibly comfortable! I absolutely love them despite the heel height. The 1 1/2" platform at the front of the shoe seems to balance out the heel height. They feel more like a 2-3" height. Good stability and excellent craftsmanship. They will look amazing in the spring with a pair of capri pants! The beadwork is stunning! Great purchase!

Please, but wish for more comfort.
I have a difficult shoe size to fit - 11 1/2 womens narrow (therefore I have to resort to men's 10 narrow often)- wish for a bit more comfort and color but am happy to have something I can wear.

Really Nice -
A very attractive shoe. My husband has very slim feet and felt very comfortable. For a normal width person it may be a bit snug. The laces were way too long unless you lace them through the very top holes. This makes the shoe a bit difficult to step into, but that's the only negative.

NB MC 803 Tennis Shoe -
This is one of the best pair of tennis shoes I have worn. I can only play on soft courts and needed a shoe that would perform well on that surface. Also, I have a bad left knee and support and cushioning are essential. The shoe required no break in and, like most NB shoes, the toe box is wide and roomy. Zappos routinely carries the 4E which are nearly impossible to find in stores or most on-line sources. Overnight shipping and a no-questions asked warranty make Zappos one of my favorite places to purchase shoes. Their prices are fair and competitive considering their extensive inventory. I'm sold on NB and have recently ordered another pair (walking shoe) from Zappos.
Other brands recommended by reviewer: Most any NB tennis, cross-trainer, trail or walking shoe.

Great Knockaround Shoe -
I was looking for a good looking comfortable `all purpose shoe & boy, does this fit the bill. It is nice & light & feels very responsive. It is not "cushy" at all, but, it does feel like you could wear it for days on end and think that you barely had shoes on at all. Good job NB!

Great Shoe -
This is a great court shoe. I am using it primarily for playing paddle tennis but it can obviously be used for other racquet sports. It fits well (I need wide shoes), is durable, and looks great. Buy it if you must!

If you have narrow feet, you know how difficult it is to get fitted properly, especially for athletic or outdoor sports shoes. But good fit is more critical in athletics than it would be in a dress shoe.
If you are serious about your sport, you already know what brand of athletic shoe is best for your game. Zappos.com will list almost every type of shoe in your game and in your narrow size. I know that the higher numbered shoes in the New Balance line are better quality. Zappos had a top NB in my long and narrow size. Even if a store sells you a narrow athletic shoe, they may have to special order it, which can take two or three weeks. Tennis season may be over in some areas by then. Zappos delivers the next day. Which brings me to my New Balance 803 tennis shoe that I recently bought from Zappos. I need all the support, cushioning and stability control that I can get when I play tennis with my bad knees. The 803 New Balance shoe gives me that. But the best endorsement I can give for that shoe is that I was UNAWARE of the shoe while playing hard. After playing, all that support and cushioning obviously work because there were no sore spots, no foot fatigue, no sense of relief when taking the shoes off. The shoes just do their job and let me play tennis. In fact, I forgot I was wearing the shoes and kept them on puttering around the house, forgetting to save these shoes for the courts.
If you play hard, you need shoes that fit. These shoes fit me and they work as promised.
Other brands recommended by reviewer: Other than NB, there are very few narrow tennis shoes on the market.

I have lots of trouble with my feet and have been unable to play tennis, which I love to do, for a couple of years. These shoes with my new orthodics make it possible again for me to play.

 | | I just wanted you to know that Zappos.com "wowed" me recently. I have been looking to improve the customer experience in my company for years, but until recently haven't
taken the necessary steps to make it happen. In the last month I have contacted many well known customer service businesses to foster ideas on how to better care for our customers, and ZAPPOS.com has risen to the top for me. You not only sent me some of your 2008 Culture books, but you didn't charge me a cent, and I made sure that I presented this fact to the team at our daily morning huddle. I was also most impressed that Tony signed the book(s)!!! Wow. I want our company to be known as following ZAPPOS.com's lead, and be better at caring for the whole individual as we care for their health needs. Thanks again, we're already discussing new core values thanks to ZAPPOS.com. I would like to send the results of these to you as my way of thanking your company for motivation to get better. Sincerely, Dr. J.W. | | ~ Dr. J.W., September 25 2009
