I always wore low-cut hikers until a seriously debilitating ankle sprain, when I realized I need ankle support. If, like me, you have narrow B-width feet, these boots are for you. Absolutely perfect fit. The size (10.5 US 44 EU for me) is an exact fit. Snug in the heel, roomy in the toe box, no rubbing, excellent ankle support, best traction I've ever experienced; you don't feel the rocks underfoot, light as moccasins, and they look pretty cool, too. Standing in them for long periods eases fatigue. I give them very high marks and La Sportiva has won a new customer for life. At the same time, I purchased ECCO Rugged Terrain V - Savage Mid boots, and Keen Klamath boots just to give all three a try. Ecco's are good too, love them, lighter even than the La Sportivas, but maybe 1/2 to 1 inch lower with less ankle support; you can definitely feel the rocks, and traction is not as good. I'm an experienced ECCO guy. They are a perfect fit, light, but only good for wearing around town or at the office, not into the woods or onto ice. I switch between the two. The Keens I returned. Very wide; fit was a half or full size smaller than represented; construction appeared not as sturdy; some loose glue marks here and there. If you have long narrow feet and need ankle support and traction, go with La Sportiva and ECCO.

I purchased the La Sportiva Halite GTX boots based on their top review in Backpacker Magazine. I took them to Utah, with only ONE day of break in, and they were AWESOME! Great support and unbelievable traction! I was still hiking with plenty of energy when the rest of my group was dogged out! They are terrific mid-range hikers and very light. The price at Zappos is much lower than suggested also which is great! Their service was lightning fast! Great shoe from a great store!

 | | Dear Zappos, Okay, help me understand something. I place an on-line order last evening at about 8:00. I screw up how to use my store credit and cant figure out how to fix it. I resort to calling your toll free number to fix my stupid mistake and expect to be on hold for at least 20 minutes. Wow is all I can say! A real live person answers the phone in two rings after I debated with myself whether or not to press the option for joke of the day. He corrects my problem and even makes the decision to not charge my credit card for the less than $2 difference between my store credit and the amount due for the running shoes I ordered. On top of this, the shoes were sitting on my doorstep tonight after I came home from work. I even wore them for my evening workout. How dare you do this in less than 20 hours after my mistake! You just set the customer service pole vault bar at 37 feet in my book! Terrific, terrific service. Thank you very much! I now consider myself a customer for life. You all will have to work very hard to make me buy a pair of shoes from another company. Im new to Zappos and you can bet I will be looking to Zappos for other purchases! Many thanks... my next order will be tomorrow evening so I can surprise my wife with a new pair of Berks she wants, but actually needs... it isnt always good to want things! Off to more exploring and shopping on your site... Christmas is coming you know! | | ~ , September 27 2009
