I owned a pair of Earth Shoes in the early 70s and had not thought about them in years. Recently I was looking for a pair of good walking shoes for the streets of Georgetown and ran across these classics. Still well made and as comfortable as ever.

Great shoes. I used to wear them in the 70s. Recently when my lower back started hurting, I thought I’d give them a try since they stretch out the back of your legs and lower back. It’s working for me - my back feels better. Note: they are sized small - I had to go a full size over my usual 9.5s to 10.5s before they felt comfy. Not stylish, but you don’t wear Earth shoes to be stylish. I got black and often wear them with a suit. Pros: shoes seem well made. Service was great. Cons: they feel a bit warm, occasionally clammy - maybe it’s the soft insole - but it’s not enough to keep me from wearing them almost daily in Houston.

Best shoes ever -
I had a pair of earth shoes when I was in high school (in the 70's) and I loved them. These shoes look identical to those. I am so glad I found them again, everyone should own a pair. Your feet and legs don't feel tired after wearing them all day. I Love Them.

As Advertised -
I have wide feet with a high arch, and mild plantar fasciitis. I also have a herniated disk in the lumbar region that sometimes makes walking painful and makes standing still *very* painful. I took these Classics out for a spin, and they seem to work as advertised. They moderately stretched my plantar fascia and hamstrings, and my back felt much better -- my lower back muscles didn't seize up like they usually do. The sole is pretty stealthy, too. I felt like a Native American stalking game on the prairie. My guess is that these would be great shoes for athletes, to ensure against hamstring pulls.

I got this shoe because I thought that the negative heel lift might help stretch my Achilles tendon and, indeed, it might have. The comfort is average and they seem well-made. I don't know how difficult or expensive it will be to replace the soles. Not God's answer to the shoe issue, but fills a niche.

Great shoe -
This was my first Earth shoe and it has been a great ride. Originally ordered a larger size, returned, and actually went a half size lower. The fit is great. I had issues with the heel the first few times. It rubbed and almost caused a blister. This went away on the 4th wearing and fits like a dream now. I love the negative heel tech, it’s a comfy way to walk.

Second pair -
Good shoe, my second pair, wore out first, glad it is still in producion, I have bad knees and the Earth design eases knee pain, I like the wide toe box.

I love it that I can use my orthotic inserts with these shoes! They are very comfortable and I feel very "earthy and cool" with them and jeans.

Too tight, arch way too high. Sized up, still too small. Immediate pain. Not for the flatter foot that needs some sort of shock absorption. Looking for a shoe that can redirect ball of foot pressure to the heel. Thought these might work. Wore these thirty years ago. Simply don't work anymore. Will be returned.

A great casual or dress shoe with maximum comfort. I bought these at the suggestion of my doctor because of plantar fasciitis. They really help to stretch my lower legs and comfort my arches. My heel pain is slowly diminishing. Excellent fast shipping from Zappos.com.

When I saw these shoes I had to have them. I wore these in the 70s and they were really comfy, but it feels like there is a seam running next to the big toe. After a few weeks it went away and now they are comfortable. I’m a printer & on my feet all day with no problem.

Finally...
I had been having problems with my arches for about a year. I had orthotics made and found that they don't fit well in all shoes. I bought these based on the online reviews that gave them high marks for arch support. I wish I had done this earlier- I would have saved a few hundred bucks. I have since purchased an athletic shoe style for work (I'm a building engineer and on my feet for the better part of the day) and just bought a new style in black. I still dig my Birkenstock sandals for summer, but this arch support is a touch softer and therefore easier to wear all day.

I wanted something like this for the negative heel to keep the Achilles tendons stretched during my all-day-standing teaching gig. That aspect of them worked fine, but there's a ridge or seam of some kind running lengthwise under the outside of my foot (worse on the right) that wants all my attention after a couple of hours. Experiments with insoles haven't helped. For me, not an all-day shoe.

Like wow man -
I lived in these things in the '70s and I thought they were lost to history. Thanks Zappos for proving me wrong. I love these shoes. They are as comfortable as I remember them being and still have the dorky good looks I liked so much way back when. I appreciate their fit far more now then I did when I was a teenager and the middle-aged me likes what they do for my posture and to reduce foot fatigue. All in all a great buy.

These are excellent shoes. They look real sharp and are more comfortable than I thought they would be. The negative heel technology is odd for the first 2-3 minutes. However, after that, WOW! I am totally flat footed, which makes buying shoes crucial for comfort. I used these on a 2 month backpacking trip through Europe and that is one situation where you need ultra comfy shoes. Good price, excellent shipping, and comfort.

These are pretty nice shoes. They are heavier then the Finn Comforts I have also but all and all a nice shoe once the leather has broken in. It was a tad stiff to start with.
I will probably buy another pair of Earth shoes again.

Better than I remembered -
Back in the 70's, I had owned 2 pair of Earth Shoes, loved them and wore them out. I had thought the Earth shoe was long gone from foot history, but was amazed when I saw them in Zappos.
I ordered the "classic" and had them on my feet literally the NEXT DAY. I had forgotten how comfortable a shoe could be. These are the most awesome shoe! I stand on my feet for long periods of time when I DJ, and for years wore sneakers when I worked. I found that the standing was causing pain from my knees down, and leg cramps.
Believe it or not, but the Earth shoe stopped all the pain and cramps from the first time out!! I worked a 5 hour shift in the booth, and my legs didn't hurt a bit!!
The shoe quality is excellent, well made, and true to size, with only about 1 week to "break them in".
Thank you Zappos!!!!
Also I may add that Zappos has an excellent customer service and delivery policy, and I told all my friends to check your site if they wanted the web's best shoe store!!

What I wanted/needed -
I remember when Earth Shoe had a factory in my town of Middleboro. Never bought any. Now I wanted and needed them and I couldn't believe they were still in business. I have been wearing SAS shoes that have been very satisfactory, but I wanted, finally, to see if footwear would help my posture. These shoes work for me. Getting another pair for my birthday.

Classic Earth Shoe -
I am one of the original Earth shoe wearers from the 70's. There was never a more comfortable shoe made, in my opinion. I have been looking for Earth shoes for the past 20 years. I just couldn't find them. I went to Zappos on a whim after seeing a TV ad. Lo and behold, they had actual negative heel Earth shoes! I immediately ordered my pair. They were shipped to me in 3 days. It was like going back 30 years. They are wonderful. Same great feel, same great look. For anyone out there that either enjoys the retro look, or just a damned comfortable shoe, this is the one you want. The quality is first rate. The craftsmanship is excellent. This will definitely not be my last visit to Zappos!!!

For the Medicare generation, beware of pulling a hamstring.
I love my new classic Earth shoes. Still clunky & simple. I loved them in the 70's & I was happy to find them again. However, that was then and now, this older body sure ain't what it used to be.
So, power walking uphill from work in my 3 wk. old Earth shoes, I was came home gimpy with a mild rip of the right hamstring. "Dummy", she said later, while outlining the growing hemorrhage, "that negative heel in those precious Earth shoes is for reckless youth, not for Medicare recipients..."
So, while I still love my Earth shoes, in 6-8 weeks when I can walk recreationally again, it will be in my grass stained sneakers, not my handsome Earth shoes.

Most Comfortable Shoe I've Owned -
The high marks these shoes get are well deserved. Both my parents had these same shoes back in the 70s and wore them for years espousing their comfort. Now finally I've gotten a pair and they feel and look great. I've never worn a shoe this comfortable - ever.
A word of warning to prospective buyers. When I first got these shoes, I wore them all day and ended up with a blister on each heel. I then didn't wear them for a week and then wore them for a couple hours a day. I think this is the way to get your feet used to them. I love these shoes and will be getting them again.
